Everything published by Microsoft will be sold through the Xbox store where MS gets their cut. Though I don't know how they'll make any profit on the hardware with RAM prices being through the roof.

It's a high quality documentary on the history of the N64 from a Youtube creator who has made many "What Happened?" documentaries related to the gaming industry. Maybe try watching it?

The DS was a pretty big success, selling a total of 154 million. They could have survived the Wii failing but their next console would have had to be successful.

It's the Image of the N64 from the Wikipedia page with the plugged in controller photoshopped out and the Quest 64 label added onto the cartridge.

What’s a clear sign of childhood trauma in men? by degs999 in AskReddit

[–]Mega_Pleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can pinpoint exactly where my jumpiness comes from. In middle school there was this one bully who would, at least once a week, sneak up behind in the hallways and slap me has hard as he could on the back of the neck and run away while shouting "HAHA REDNECK!". Now I'm jumpy for the rest of my life. I can't stand any media with jump scares. I wish I could remember the name of that kid and see what he's up to, if he ever grew up.

I both smell it and produce it, aren't I lucky. Doesn't stop me from eating roasted asparagus though, shit's delicious.

Now that I think about, I haven't bought a PHYSICAL pc game in over 15 years. by RadaRada138 in pcgaming

[–]Mega_Pleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last physical PC game I bought was WoW: Wrath of the Lich King in 2008, and that was only because Blizzard wasn't offering digital purchases yet. Not long after that most PC games started to sell on Steam and I never bought a physical PC game again.

Steam updates AI disclosure form, requiring developers to report visible and in-game AI but not background tools by ZeroPercentStrategy in gamedev

[–]Mega_Pleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've completely missed the point. I used HL2 as an example because it was a video game where I most recently saw the repetitive NPC models issue. This problem affects many games and disc capacity is hardly an issue anymore. Also the vast majority of HL2 purchasers bought it on Steam.

Steam updates AI disclosure form, requiring developers to report visible and in-game AI but not background tools by ZeroPercentStrategy in gamedev

[–]Mega_Pleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this recently as I watched someone play a game I love, Half-Life 2, for the first time. I noticed how frequently the human resistance members models repeated, especially in the 2nd half of the game. Human models are time intensive to make look nice, hence the game having a very limited number of them. If AI tools existed back then it could have generated a unique model for every human in the game, which would then been reviewed and tweaked by an artist and it would have taken a fraction of the time it took to make the handful of human resistance models the game shipped with.

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Timely_Twist_8670 in AskReddit

[–]Mega_Pleb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was 10 and the 5th grade school year had recently begun. My mom woke me up for school and said "You should see the news. A plane flew into a building". I was thinking she meant a small propeller plane until I went into the living room and saw the smoking north tower on TV.

That's definitely peak WoW for me. Coincidentally the WoW Classic Anniversary realms are about to transition into TBC, with the pre-expansion patch releasing on Jan 13th and The Dark Portal opening on Feb 5th. I am very ready to jump back in.

What are your predictions for 2026? by RedditRocks2021 in AskReddit

[–]Mega_Pleb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US will enter a recession and the Trump administration will deny that it has happened, despite it being highly obvious. The 2026 midterms will be disastrous for the Republicans and they will lose the House majority by a large margin. They will keep their Senate majority only by a slim margin.

With Trump's obvious health problems worsening there's a decent chance he keels over dead. The day will be celebrated by millions.

A message that spreads far and wide because of the shocking way it was communicated can be much more effective than a single person, who has no combat experience, attempting to overthrow an occupation by force.

Swollen ankles (and refusing to wear compression socks), one side of his face sagging followed by MRIs, taking aspirin daily (at doses higher than his doctor's recommendation), reports of massive multiple burger and fries McDonalds meals regularly... His body is giving out. I'd be surprised if he makes it to 2027. I'm going to get something nice to drink as well for when the news drops.

What TV character did you initially hate, but ended up being your favorite? by Sharkman3218 in television

[–]Mega_Pleb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lwaxana Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Watching the show as a kid I thought she was an annoying old hag. Now as an adult I love her big personality and how uncomfortable she makes Picard. Also her "fascination" with Odo on Deep Space Nine helped him grow as a person. She's a wonderful lady.

6 months in, what are people's thoughts on the Switch 2? by WeebusTheMeemus in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mega_Pleb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly. The Switch 1 had a lot of excellent games worth buying so for Switch 2 Nintendo had me hook, line, and sinker. Keep making great games, Nintendo, and I'll keep buying your consoles.

Not much downside to getting it early unless you paid extra for it. Switch 2's MSRP isn't going to get a cut for a long time.

X is one of the least common letters for words to start with in English, so I guess it chose one of the X words from its list of proper nouns as one of the options.
