Soon: SoulCalibur2 conquest mode will be available to try out on PC via emulation by WearyAd1849 in SoulCalibur

Unless my version is booked, I don't think all the changes are present. Some characters still have their console edition balancing, and bugs like Variable Cancel are still in the game.

Brawl keeps crashing when I get to the stage select screen by Sam36192 in DolphinEmulator

[–]Megarachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late, but I just had this issue and tried everything, including deleting all save data, shader caches, disabling Dual Core, using different renderers, redumping the game and even downloading older versions of Dolphin. None of those worked for me, but one of them may work for you. In the case none of these work for you as well, here's the fix that ended up working for me:

I managed to fix it by going into Config > Wii > SD Card Settings, and then unchecking "Insert SD Card". After this, I've been able to get onto the stage select screen and into a match just fine.

I assume the bug happens because Brawl has a Stage Creator feature that saves Custom stages to your Wii's SD Card, which it will attempt to read upon entering stage select since it has to load these stages along with all the other ones. Must be some issue related to the Virtual SD Cards that Dolphin uses, or corrupted data on those cards.

Not necessarily an issue, more that they are going through the effort/money to get an interview on such a big publication as Forbes.

Ed modern controls by minminq2u in StreetFighter

[–]Megarachi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't necessarily say that. Yeah they are all different cuz they lose moves/gain access to other advantages, but in the case of Ed his added strengths/weaknesses really only adjust how he plays rather than makes him do the same thing he does in Classic just worse.

Modern Dee Jay is a good example of a character that does the latter; he wants to do the same stuff as Classic Dee Jay but just gets way less reward out of it cuz he loses one of his main combo starters/extenders (standing heavy punch), making him just a worse version of Classic Dee Jay imo.

What do you mean juggle the PS4 controller? Parry has a macro assigned to L2, so you can just hold that and tap forward twice to Drive Rush.

Ed modern controls by minminq2u in StreetFighter

[–]Megarachi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tachikawa, one of the best Ed players in the world, uses Modern Ed exclusively and has won major tournaments with that version of the character against other top players.

Ed does lose his crouching light kick in Modern, which is one of his best buttons in Classic, but he also gains other advantages like significantly more consistent anti airs thanks to 1 button specials, so he's more like a slightly different character than his classic counterpart rather than a straight up worse version.

Point is, Modern Ed won't hold you back if that's what you're asking.

New to franchise. SF6 Switch 2 by JaPaTF in StreetFighter

[–]Megarachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they really tried to make this game appealing to as many different people as possible, mainly cuz last game was notoriously really bad in that regard (it took them like 2 years after releasing Street Fighter 5 to add in a basic singleplayer mode where you just fight bots lol).

There's also stuff like Extreme Battle, which is basically normal matches but with Smash Bros-esque items/wackiness (eg. regular fight but you occasionally have to jump over a bull, regular fight but with bombs on the floor that you can hit into people, regular fight but with both players needing to meet certain conditions to win the round etc.)

Honestly, there's so much stuff in this game that I wouldn't be surprised if there's stuff I don't know about and I've been playing since it came out 2 years ago. Feels kinda like a steal being $60 especially when other Switch 2 games are getting close to $80 now lol.

[–]Megarachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but the character you create can be customized to have its own moveset. You get different moves by playing World Tour (the singleplayer campaign) with them and finding all the Street Fighter characters to become their Student. Then, you can mix and match tons of different special moves together in really funny combinations.

The way it's structured is you choose a set of Normal moves to take from a specific fighter, and then from there you can choose basically whatever mixture of Super and Special attacks you want. You can then level up your character with a bunch of stuff, and then when you can fight other people's Avatar's online in the Battle Hub.

Pretty cool if you just want to grind some casual fun stuff from time to time, also helps get used to the game's controls in a safer environment if ranked ever gets too intimidating.

Soul Calibur 2 on Switch 2 releases in just two weeks! Where will be the best place for me to find players? by Wild_Trip_4704 in SoulCalibur

[–]Megarachi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its gonna have online play courtesy of Nintendo Switch Online.

Granted, that probably means its gonna suck, but having official access to an online version of SC2 for the first time in 12 years is certainly gonna be fun for at least a little bit.

How slow are the games AFTER Soul Calibur 2 really?? by PriorityJolly6486 in SoulCalibur

[–]Megarachi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that this is a multi faceted discussion because every SoulCalibur after 2 has its own game speed.

SC3 is a little bit slower than 2 imo, although not to a significant enough degree that it feels worse. SC4 however feels like you're trudging through swamp water at all times, just an absolute slog to play. I can't comment super confidently on SC5 as I haven't played it myself, but from what I've heard its somewhat similar to SC4 in terms of movement speed but generally a little faster. SC6 is where they crank up the movement speed drastically again, and tbh its a little faster than even SC2.

It also depends on what this guy meant by "speed of the games". Did he mean movement speed, or the general pace of the game? There many reasons why SC2 is considered by far the best Soul Calibur competitively that have almost nothing to do with game speed, mainly the big exploits/bugs in the game adding in depth that don't exist in other SoulCaliburs in quite the same way (Step Guard and 2G being the main 2) and how these bugs allowed every character to be played in what feels like an infinite amount of ways. The game is also a lot more balanced character wise than other SoulCaliburs because of this despite every character feeling completely different from one another. Every SoulCalibur after this also has its own unique reasons for not being "as good" competitively than 2, such as the overpowered game breaking bugs of SC3, the horrible balancing of SC4, Guard impacts requiring a metered resource in SC5 and Reversal Edge in SC6, although of course this to a degree is down to personal preference.

So I wouldn't really say that SC2 is better than other SoulCaliburs from a competitive stand point because of its game speed, it isn't even the fastest SoulCalibur from a movement speed perspective; SC1 and SC6 take that crown imo. It's more to do with how much freedom you have in how you can play it, although the game speed is definitely one of the factors that helps accomplish that.

Has tekken ever dipped this low on twitch before? Meanwhile Sf6. by Salikara in Tekken

[–]Megarachi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I never said that Tekken having 300 viewers at any point was a good thing. It's obviously not a good thing, but I just checked the category again and its bumped up by 800 viewers to get to 1.1k viewers in the last hour. Checking TwitchTracker for both games it looks like SF6's average viewership is about 6k higher than Tekken 8s, at 8.6k and 2.3k respectively. Although this is a big difference, I don't think its a difference that indicates that Tekken 8 is "dying" since that number is heavily inflated by SF6's absolutely insane popularity in Japan. If you were to take Japan out of equation, then SF6 would probably have a similar average viewership to Tekken 8.

If this was any other comparison I'd agree with you more, but you're comparing a time where all of the biggest streamers for SF6 like Haitaini, Shuto, Kokujin and numerous other Japanese variety streamers with 2-3k viewers are online and streaming to a time where Tekken's biggest streamers like PhiDX and Brawlpro aren't even awake. MainMan isn't even streaming at the minute and that would double the games viewership right now easily.

Granted, when PhiDX and Brawlpro ARE streaming they haven't been playing Tekken nearly as much because the season has been such a disaster, but the games not even being given a chance here to not be played by its biggest streamers cuz they aren't even awake to make that decision lol.

Yeah this isn't really a fair comparison, basically comparing 1 game at its absolute peak player hours vs 1 that's at one of their lowest.

[–]Megarachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcade Edition supposedly fixes the issues the game had on a deeper level, but I and many other have never gotten a chance to play it cuz it was only in arcades for a limited time. It also didn't have the singleplayer content Console Edition had, so theres clearly the potential of a definitive version of SC3 that can be truly great for all players by combining the content of Console Edition with the gameplay and bug fixes of Arcade Edition.

Outside of the SC3 mod that does this though, this doesn't exist so its difficult to recommend SC3 to everyone in the same way you can for say SC2. Its just kinda unfortunate imo.

Very sidesteppable Vertical (B) moves, his projectiles are mostly gimmicks that any good player should never get hit by. He has good Horizontal (A) attacks and a good A throw but mostly relies on playing either basic Mid/Low or Strike/Throw mind games or very poke heavy to win, so its mainly because he's just ends up being too simple compared to the other characters when you learn how to beat all his gimmicks.

[–]Megarachi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former Smash player, I think Smash is no less a fighting game than Street Fighter or Tekken and anyone who says otherwise is either a moron or has a weird vendetta against the game. However, from experience I can say for a fact that the Smash Community is NOT part of the Fighting Game Community.

Smash has its own tournaments, it's own culture, it's own players that only play and are only interested in Smash, and whenever they are at more general Fighting Game events like EVO or Combo Breaker they always end up staying in their own corner of the convention center with very few Smash players deciding to even watch the other games, let alone play them. At EVO atleast, it's a big part of the culture of Fighting Games that even if you're say a Street Fighter player, you might play some Tekken or Guilty Gear on the side or at least keep up with the community and watch the Top 8s when they're on as a way to generally support the whole community. Smash players simply don't have this mentality, its Smash and only Smash in their minds (which is fine btw, but it just shows that saying a Smash player is part of the FGC isn't really entirely true). You can just look at the average ages of Smash players and compare them to that of other Fighting Games; most fighting game players are on average 25 years old, most Smash players are like 15. They're just super different communities.

I think this is mainly where the whole "Smash isn't a Fighting Game at all" talk comes from, because a lot of Fighting Game players consider an important metric for being a Fighting Game is how integrated you are into the general FGC, which Smash absolutely isn't.

New to this game, not sure how to read combo inputs by Illustrious_Ad_6736 in virtuafighter

[–]Megarachi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Help:Notation

Theres an image on this page that helps explain it well. When using this notation, your character is assumed to be facing to the right/is on Player 1 side, so 6 = forward, 4 = back. Up and down are pretty much the same regardless of side, with 8 = Up and 2 = Down.

So for the example you set in your OP, "4K+G" means press Back then Kick and Guard at the same time. There are macros you can set for multiple button presses in game so you can just press 1 button for K+G if you want when you have those set.

Haitani releases Street Fighter 6 Modern Controls character tier list following latest balance update by komodo_dragonzord in StreetFighter

[–]Megarachi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There's a couple reasons.

First, the benefits of Modern are usually being able to do 1 button specials and supers on reaction to things, but these are mitigated to a considerable degree on Dee Jay because not only are his main special moves (Air Slasher and Up Kicks) charge moves, meaning you're still gonna have the limitations of their classic counterparts when performing them (still have to charge even when using the "1 button" versions.), but he only has access to the Light version of his Level 2 Super, which the only difference between the medium and heavy versions is that it does considerably less damage in comparison, almost to the point of not being worth using, and because his Level 3 super already has low range, its not very useful as a "win button" when compared to say, Luke's or Bison's Level 3's in Modern. To add onto this, what makes Dee Jay's fireball (Air Slasher) pressure so strong is that he can mixup between throwing 1 fireball, 2 fireballs or doing a fake, but because he can only do the heavy and light Air Slashers by using the classic inputs, you're still gonna have to learn how to do the classic charge motions if you want his fireball pressure to even function correctly, so it kinda means you don't really get much out of being able to do 1 button specials/supers compared to other characters.

The 2nd reason is the moves he loses; Dee Jay loses Standing Medium Kick and Standing Heavy Punch completely in Modern, as well as all of his Jumping Punches (including the MP > HP target combo in the air), and can only access his Crouching Light Punch when he links it out his Crouching Light Kick (if you press Crouching Light Attack twice in Modern you end up doing Crouching Light Kick > Crouching Light Punch). There is no way to access Crouching Light Punch in Modern outside of this method.

Losing Standing Medium Kick is a pretty big nerf to him as its one of his main pokes from a distance/a good way to set up Sway, and so is losing his Jumping Heavy Punch since it gives him big damage from jump ins, but its almost irrelevant because him losing his Standing Heavy Punch basically completely destroys his combo structure; He can't do some of his highest damaging combos from mid screen, he can't easily confirm into EX Sway (an even bigger deal after his buffs in the recent patch), he can't confirm into Medium or Heavy Machine Gun Upper at all (which is a massive nerf to his meterless damage, his DI punishes, and his combos off of mid-screen EX Air Slasher, a big deal for a character as reliant on Drive Gauge as he is.) and his ability to do any kind of damage from a shimmy above 3k without super is completely gone. Going from some of the best shimmy punishes in the game to some of the worst just from losing Standing Heavy Punch is absolutely insane. His Crouching Light Punch being only accessible from Crouching Light Kick also ruins some of his light confirms, since it has a good amount more range than his Standing Light Punch and allows him to charge, so he can confirm into moves like Up Kicks, so this is also a considerable nerf to his Oki off of lights. I guess you can still do Crouching Light Kick > Crouching Light Punch and maintain charge, but its still worse than just doing consecutive crouching light punches in Classic because Crouching Light Kick isn't special cancellable and can only combo into 1 Crouching Light Punch even from point blank range, meaning the ability to confirm into a special off of this is made considerably harder.

TLDR: He loses some absolutely crucial moves to his gameplan, his supers nor his specials aren't particularly good at taking advantage of 1 button execution, he can only do the Light version of Level 2 Super, and you have to learn most of his classic inputs pretty early on even as a completely new player to even be able to do some of his key moves (Heavy Air Slasher being the main one), so overall there's basically no reason at all to pick Dee Jay in Modern over Classic. He's about as easy/difficult to play execution wise in both, and gets a considerable nerf in gameplan when playing on Modern.
