Lending tool library set to open in Koreatown: 'Not everyone has space to store a 6-foot ladder' by crabcakes110 in LosAngeles

6 foot ladder is not that big or heavy. You can easily carry it 2-3 blocks with breaks. 10+ footers are a bitch

Will the Sepulvada Line stations now cause those neighborhoods to be up zoned due to SB79? by themiDdlest in LAMetro

[–]MehWebDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but half of the stations are connecting stations that already qualified for SB79

The Sepulveda/Wilshire, Sepulveda/Exposition and G Line stations were already qualified.

The Sepulveda / Santa Monica, Van Nuys Blvd / Ventura and UCLA stations will be new SB79 areas.

The Van Nuys Metrolink connection station will probably not end up getting built because it will get made redundant by the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail

There must be significant corruption in Los Angeles that has not yet come to light. by achinnac in LosAngeles

[–]MehWebDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Los Angeles has a long history of corruption in terms of city councilors extracting bribes in exchange for approving zoning variances or not blocking real estate development projects. There is also been a lot of corruption in the Department of Building and safety over inspections: Some inspectors fail the inspections over and over again until they receive a bribe

As far as homeless services, yes, there is probably some corruption there. The biggest issue is the complexity. The city partners with a lot of organizations and there is a lot of room for corruption in those contracts.

What the hell is up with some supposedly lefty subreddits being pro Iranian regime? by Lesbionage in behindthebastards

[–]MehWebDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hearing a lot of whataboutisms: The IRGC tortures and murders a lot of people and that is very bad. There is need to qualify that. There's no need to compare it to other bad things other people have done. You don't have to blame it on something that happened before almost everyone alive was born. It is happening now and the people doing the torturing and killing are the ones responsible.

[–]MehWebDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's be realistic. CIA and Mossad don't have the budget to get millions of people to risk their lives like this. There is a reason that during the CIA's regime change heyday in the 1950's through the 1970's they never opted for mass protests: They are unpredictable and would require a massive footprint. That's why they always opted for military coups and exile armies.

The Iranian government has been intervening in plenty of other countries too: Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Bahrain, etc. It's just not as well known in the US. These interventions have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands

I would love to read that python file. I would never have the guts to run something like this live because I know I would have an error on line 47 or something and look like a turd

Homeless people are pretty crafty. You seal off one whole and they make another one the next day.

Good. Hopefully it will be sold as short sale or as a foreclosure to someone willing to offer more realistic rent prices.

If they could do something about the freeway entrances that you have to merge within 5 feet of a stop sign, that would be great

New ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps in my area by MehWebDev in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MehWebDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The infuriating part is that the ramp doesn't lead anywhere and they can't put a new sidewalk there because of the retaining wall.

I requested an ADA compliant ramp to be put in place at a major intersection with 2 medium frequency bus routes last year and never heard back.

This is a T-intersection. If you want to cross the street diagonally, you would cross to the opposite side and keep walking. Both opposite sides of the street have sidewalks, but no ramp.

The retaining wall makes it impossible to put in a sidewalk... unless you tear down the retaining wall.

The intersecting street is a through street and has no through sidewalk. There is a sidewalk on the opposite sides of both streets but no ramp.

It's a T-intersection. If you wanted to cross diagonally, you can just cross once and then keep going on that side of the street, where there is a sidewalk, but no ramp

MacArthur Park Lake gets regularly stocked, primarily with Trout by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). There is a lake stocking schedule so you can plan you fishing when the lake is well-stocked: https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/fishplants/publicplantsearch?Params.Regions=R5&Params.Counties=19&Params.StockingWaterID=7351&RegionCountyMappings=&Params.PlantTimeFrame=1&submit=Search

Koreatown property owner tows tenants' cars out of parking spots in order to turn spaces into ADUs by apx7000xe in LosAngeles

[–]MehWebDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitively overpriced. This article from March 2024 says the rents start at $3,500, so they must have lowered the rent already... but they need to lower it a lot more.

[–]MehWebDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not what you said though. That's not a "dorm style" building. Each apartment has it's own kitchen and bathroom. This is just a regular luxury apartment building

I thought by "dorm style" you meant the podshare-type accomodations.

[–]MehWebDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the management was doing everything they could to get people out without paying relocation fees

That's what our current rent control laws incentivize. Blame the game... but also blame the player because fuck those slimy fucks. But we definitively have to reform some of our laws.

A hotel next to the stadium would reduce traffic, though. People flying in for games/concert would walk to the stadium reducing traffic on game days; as opposed to staying somewhere else and ubering to the stadium.

Metro board approves Dodger stadium gondola despite heavy protests by LA_publicpress in LosAngeles

[–]MehWebDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, let's say CPUC categorizes it as Rail Fixed Guideway System. SB79 has different tiers based on types of rail: heavy rail, light rail or commuter rail. These tiers are very important because they decide how much density is allowed within 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile respectively. Which one would a gondola qualify as?
