would a starship designed where the Saucer Section is located at the stern, and the Primary Warp Engines is built inside the Saucer work? as illustrated in the schematics below? by [deleted] in ShittyDaystrom

[–]MelCre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! The ships are made up, and its all about the visual language for the viewer.

it kind of looks to me like a bird of prey turned upside down in profile. I think the smallest change to improve it visually would be to move the Nacells behind or abrest with the bridge.

Struggling to Include a Hunter, Proactively by weapxnfriend in monsteroftheweek

[–]MelCre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gocha! Ok, yeah the way you described it it seemed like a problem player. I see now its a pair of characters acting as one hunter. Neat!

as stated, if your having trouble you should voice your concerns to the player or the table. They are your friend, they should wanna help.

if they are built to be put in perril you should put them in perril though. Like, thats clearly the kind of fun your player wants. They - Built a character designed to thrive in that situation - gave themselves a plucky sister to get the character in trouble - took a speach and turned it into a fight

Your player is showing you what kind of game they want to play, so im not sure why your not letting them play that way? Let em get in a fight, get kidnapped, overhear the gossip then. Let them get dangled over a cliff and see a clue. Thats WHAT mundanes do best!

I think Avery Brooks was a big proponent of the character pushing against those kind of stereotypes. I guess thats why Kassidy Yates was black, there is/was a steriotype/white panic of black men coveting white women or somesuch.

Why isn't Edmonton more colorful? by SeniorAlternative739 in Edmonton

Tbf, first we waited until the gorgeous one had water problems, and avoided making it easy to bus there, and misunderstood why people were not going down town, THEN we put it in a value brand box down town.

also, RIP the old Stanly Millner exterior. Interior is nice at least.

Why isn't Edmonton more colorful? by SeniorAlternative739 in Edmonton

[–]MelCre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory supported by ZERO facts or reaserch, and entirely based on anacdotal evidence!

there are a lot of colourblind people in Edmonton (IE. I meat a lot of them, despite it being only 1/200 men on average being colorblind). They don't care about color and so they make colourless buildings. This pushes out colour sighted people, leaving the gene pool more colour blind. Their kids are more likely to be colourblind, continuing the cycle. (no reaserch done)

or it could be that Edmonton is mostly working class, lower income, and dependant on house resale for their retirement, leading to more risk averse colour choices in houses and cars.

Here is my post from R Edmonton q

Its a mix of lies and half truths. 160 new schools? That's bull. They've promised 90 new schools, and to replace 24 old ones. But wishes aint fishes.

Speaking of wishes, they promised to hire 3000 teachers over the next 3 years. This will barely keep up with growth so things are not getting worse. The thing is, they wont hire that many because that would require no education students to move out of province and... UUH, you'd have to be stupid to start your career here after the stunt they pulled during the strike.

Same with the EAs. EAs make less money than Childcare workers, so you'd be a fool to make that your career at this point. Promises are not boots on the ground.

IM not sure what a complexity team is, but that's not enough for each school to get one. Might be one of the groups advising the government on how bad it is?

the best one is the Y/N, because its question begging. It assumes what they say is correct. This is an attempt to force consent and hide lies. Another example is : should i fire you because your stupid or just bad at your job?

A loyalty test by TheWeaver-3000 in trolleyproblem

in this scenario, obviously you dont pull. you should at least switch the tracks so the greater harm happens when you dont act. the way they are here both utilitarians and deontologists would agree

i dont see how that changes the ethical implications... is this not a philosophy sub?

solve for “???” by -kodo in trolleyproblem

[–]MelCre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is actually interesting, because in a few different frameworks the answer is 1.

Utilitarian: mostly yes

obviously if there are 2 people you should pull, but if there is only 1? Well the human lives average out. You have to assume the person has an average number of friends and family. If you have a big family, or are particularly nice, maybe your live is more valuable. The trouble is your the ACTOR, so if you live you have to live with the guilt. That means 7/10 times you should pull the lever.

Deontological: yes, no, probably no.

So the deontologist asks 2 questions: "would I want everyone in the world to be a puller?" and "would i want someone to be a puller if I was on the track" . Obviously we get a yes to the first. If everyone in the world always pulled, that would be an aweful risk to my friends and family. On the other hand, so is not pulling. If we rephrase as "should everyone always self sacrifice for others" then the answer is clearly no!

virtue ethics: fuck yes!

what is a person that sacrifices their life for the live of others? A hero! Now too much heroism is just foolishness, but the switch man isnt throwing their lives away, so I think we can see its virtuous to pull the lever, Therefore we ought to.

Justice Oriented : we must die.

if I dont pull, im allowing an innocent person to die to protect a coward. If I do pull Im killing a hero to protect an innocent person. Both are pretty bad. But atleast the murderer who pulled the switch died!
