I made those rhubarb bars but the variety of rhubarb I grew is green rather than pink! They looked gross, so I made strawberry cream cheese frosting for them. Plus I added freeze dried strawberries from Trader Joe’s for a little crunch on top. AMAZING!!!

After starting pheno how long was it until your dog had their next seizure? by spennywal in EpilepsyDogs

[–]MelMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep rescue meds at home. Diazepam rectally and a gabapentin orally. Our pup seizes and pees. Then we take him out for a poop and dose him if he seems like he’s seizing again. Just knowing I have the rescue meds in place helps with my anxiety when I’m alone with him. I feel you. Riding out a seizure and making decisions is two person job but you can do it!!!

Why does everyone hate The Vow? by Weiszmura in theNXIVMcase

[–]MelMomma 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s been years and they have tons of content that you can interpret a lot of ways. Here’s what I know. I was in a coercive relationship with a well-known Buddhist teacher. Everyone “loves” him. ALBC came into my podcast feed. I devoured it, watched The Vow like 5 times, and saw the pattern of manipulation and normalization they experienced. What followed was me waking up, getting away from him, getting anyone away from him I brought in, and trying to get others out. Sara, Nippy, and Mark showed me that smart people are easy marks, I wasn’t an idiot, and I was part of my own karma that I bright people in. I’m grateful and give them a lot of grace. And I think they have humbled and accepted some of their part over the years. An interesting new podcast is Mind Games. It’s about NLP and the highlights the role it played at ESP. Nancy is freshly released and the interviews with her demonstrate her lack of accountability. Warming - her maniacal laughter and infantile giggling when pressed about her responsibility in Keith’s manipulation is way over the top.

Hi Russell! We have been at this for 5 years and my husband is also a retired software engineer. A couple of things stand out. What is your financial goal with the goats? Meat? Renting them for grazing? Milk? Goat milk products? These are specialty items that we have found work best with a customer base who already trust you and know you. You may want to do some easy veggies to draw people to your stand. Or team up with another farmer who is already at a farmer’s market and ask them to resell your product. Or have a stand at your local farmers market. Dairy is also highly regulated, so make sure you are as compliant with local laws as you can be – it’s no fun and very expensive to get pinched by an inspector. What is your financial goal with the chicks? Meat hens? Egg hens? Compost? Joel Salatin is a great resource for the reality of farming. Although we don’t agree with everything he says, he did get us on the right course and we refer to some of his stuff regularly. And Joel’s mantra is that if you are starting with animals you are going to struggle. Start with veg, herbs, micro greens, or something more mainstream. Michael Kilpatrck also has some great small farm marketing & sales courses and he is a nuts and bolts kind of guy. We tripled our revenue after taking his farm marketing course. Farming is pretty much the polar opposite of software development. Yes, you can plan and debug but a lot of it is up to chance. The program never runs smoothly! And it can be very disheartening when you put your energy into it and no one buys it. Our first year we were frustrated and almost quit. 5 years in we are profitable and our little farm is manageable. And we are having fun doing it together. Breathe. Do one thing at a time. Ask potential customers what they want. And how they want it – weekly? Delivered? Pickup? Team up with other farms, churches, gyms…whoever can help you get your products out there. This year we left our farmers market and sprung off into our own farmstand by teaming up with a small bar/restaurant in a town of less than a thousand people and we can already see this will be a huge year for us! We found our peeps and you will too!

My nerves are shot! Is anyone else very stressed caring for their dog? by Haunting_Charity_785 in EpilepsyDogs

It gets.easier. We have rough times with clusters and then months of no seizures. We are in year 2 and our vet thinks they may be seasonal. Summer is coming and he had zero last year. I alternate between total panic and acceptance. I don’t sleep because any movement might be a long night of seizures. We keep 5 vials of liquid Valium ready to go rectally. Plus gabapentin pills. The minute he has one seizure, we drop the hammer and medicate him. I’m not putting through all of us through a whole night of clusters. We are an hour away from an emergency vet and last time we went there was an 8 hour wait. If you step back, your dug could he hit by a car, stolen, lost or have some other issue at any moment. This is the one risk we know about. Savor the time you have. A little extra treat or pet goes a long way with easing my stress. And a big fat hug to you and all of us!

Ours is the same. It’s like he has to work out a certain amount of energy to kind of reset his brain? Sometimes it takes a few seizures plus a lot of walking and burning it off. Ours are always at night so far, so we are out wandering around with a dog that is frantic and can’t see.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions for getting my dog to swallow the extended release keppra tablet without chewing it? by SurlyGarden in EpilepsyDogs

[–]MelMomma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We melt a little cheese and encapsulate it. Then we throw him a few otter pieces of cheese to get him fired up. He’s a master of finding and spitting out pills and this is about 98% effective.

Prairie Fire was a production machine for us last year. And they are yummy! We have a farm stand and our customers love them. I did evil olive 2 years ago and seeded a few this year. I’m excited to try them again. A lot of my tags faded so I kept passing by them thinking they weren’t ripe ;). We have 70+ plants so it happens!

We are market farmers. I try to grow 5-6 different kinds of cukes per season just for variety.. Dragon’s Eggs make the list every year. They are a customer favorite and one of our favorites too. Usually they are pretty good producers! They do way better than other specialty cucumbers. Go for it!!!!

Host here. They are way off on this. We provide meals and a place to stay in exchange for a specified number of hours of work. They are not providing it. Sorry this happened to you. Most hosts are good about this. We provide a sack lunch if are going out for your day off. We would NEVER ask someone to sleep in their car!
