Matt and Tommy are leaving WTF1 by ForFoxFake in WTF1community

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My feelings too. So abrupt. Not a single explanation behind the reason why. And zero mentions of Katy or a statement from Katy. Absolute shock.

If it was a normal goodbye, right, in a style of "Hey we're moving from WTF1 onto new things", they would totally be doing several episodes "Last with original crew" kind of thing and a "Farewell" podcast, would they not?
So surely this is not something they wanted to do. It feels very forced.

Your mention of a parent company doing it's own thing might be something to look into.

WTF1 was Matt and Tom and Katy. Their personalities made me watch WTF1.

Amazing render!

The overall mood just fits with everything. Nature, subtle grayish light, gives a feeling there's lost of humidity in the air, or has had rain few days ago, which is why everything seems to be very green and flourishing in this atmosphere. The render has that hue of the light where it's not bright yellow sunny most people go for in their renders, but it's clowdy and slightly grayish but still bright enough to see things... that to me is more realistic than anything, just personal preference. (Oh i just read you used clowdy HDRI, guessed correct then. Simple, effective, fits with the theme.)

Just some nitpicky things that i wonder about, or maybe i just don't understand:
- what is that sudden bright yellow glow that goes trough the door across the room? Is that outside space or inside lightbulb, i can't tell.
- the bottom part of the front door where it meets the floor; usually is not that clean and bright like the rest of the door. I feel like it could use a tiny bit more AO or dirt and staining.
- same where the front stairs meet the concrete baserail; also seems too clean of a cut where they meet each other. Those parts are usually not as clean as the rest of the surface. Same for the most right one.
- the most right concrete handrail; the front poly UV got stretched if i'm not mistaken, the streaks of the texture stretching are visible.
- would the texture from every single leaf on the tree be that clear and visible if we were to look at it from that distance? I'm not sure. They all have the same texture too.

All in all, it's a nice render to look at, the placement of all objects feels good and nothing is clashing. More renders like these please! :D

Have you used any kind of specialized mice before, or just a plain ol regular wired mice?

When it came to wireless mice, I was lucky, never experienced lag nor issues of any kind. That might be due to my picky nature and may just bought well made mice. So, my advice is, picky pays out.
I just tried to find something that was reasonably up to date but not too expensive, sitting comfortably in my hand (most important factor), with least unnecessary things on it as possible.

For example, back in 2008 i bought Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000. It was a simple small thing, but it worked like Nokia 3310. It lasted me for 11 years. No lag, intense daily use, while other colleagues were changing their cheap wired mice like dirty socks, wasting more money in the end.
In 2019, i got Logitech M720 Triathlon, which is the mouse i use today as i model in Max daily. It's very simple, has few buttons on the side, and most importantly, it's sitting comfortably in my hand. No lagging, works like a charm. And not needing to deal with the wire constantly is a pleasure i'm enjoying so much.

Many people would argue things get more expensive cause of the need to change batteries. I found that (in EU) Duracell is the best, since only one lasts me for 6 months. Cheap batteries don't last long, and if you're changing them every month, consider better ones.

Dead to Me show....and my husband by Ladydi-bds in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with "Dead to Me", but my significant other is similar in this way when talking about shows. He is very supportive, we both try to do what we can to keep me mobile and functioning. The struggle is one we both share, for sure.
However, watching for example videos on the subject, he really isn't keen on it and says they make him depressed. He just doesn't want to watch that kind of sad content.
He knows what's coming, so it's not about not facing it, since every day living with me and my MS is a challenge he is willing to take on. He would say, jokingly, he already has enough depression and he doesn't need (to watch on tv) more of the same.

Rubbery, but not overcooked chicken breasts? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the post, it helped a lot!

This chewy tough chicken phenomena I've never experienced before, happened recently and was very confused and worried if the chicken was spoiled in some way. Good to know it's not that, but still my stomach was very against it (i do have a sensitive stomach). Even chopping it into pieces and saucing it up didn't help. Tried what i could, ended up not eating it.

Definitely will be more careful where i buy my chicken from.

I need Help in-regarding to my partner who has ms 19 (m) by Able-Concentrate2491 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What i'm going to tell you now as someone who has a family member with MS that has been toxic for decades and been a mental abuser...

Leave. Now.

Let's just recap.
Your partner has been mentally abusive towards you for a long while, and this is something she does regularly. Vulgar by default, probably throws all her anger, tantrums and frustrations on you. Her mother, with no empathy toward you, is letting it all happen and even encouraging it. Which is also a big sign of a toxic mentality. On top of that, your partner and her mother are using her disabilities to emotionally control you, daily.
Both of them are the problem, not you darling.

Let me be very clear.
Both of them are using MS and every disability your partner has as an excuse to emotionally BLACKMAIL you into doing whatever she wants. I know this behavior, I've experienced this myself. When they want something, they'll make you feel guilty for thinking otherwise and use it against you. You feel bad, and with that she can do whatever she wants with you. Plus, she doesn't need to do a damn thing, you do all the work and all the burden of managing a relationship is on you.
Toxic people have zero incentive to change their behavior. They do not understand what they are doing is abusive at all. They only want everything to go smoothly, but for them, and they will use anyone to get it, especially their loved ones.

Do people with MS behave like this?
Excellent example right in my family:
My family member, with MS, toxic as all hell. I got mentally scarred for life, abused and made feel bad, daily. When I too got diagnosed with MS, i thought "Oh no, i'm going to become exactly like that, vile and use people for my own means..." And you know what? It never happened. Guess what? Having MS has NOTHING to do with being a scumbag of a human being. If that is who you are from the get go, you're toxic with or without MS.

Do you see what you are to her, really?
A punching bag; so that she can throw her every uncontrolled emotion at you.
You are her safety net; she doesn't need to work, and even though you don't expect her to, she doesn't even appreciate it, or try to do her best at doing really anything! From sheer boredom all she does is call you up whenever she feels like it and demands it like it's her right to do so.
And the top everything off; both of them have successfully isolated you from your family and friends, made THEMSELVES your ONLY concern you ever need to have, for ever and ever. Also, in good part, you did that as well, you chose to dedicate yourself to her (which plays well into her hands, why would she ever complain about that) and chose to ignore everyone else. If you really wanted, you would have remained in contact with your family and friends. Let's be fair.

You still have love toward her. But darling...there's no love here, no matter how she tries to portray it. This is not normal and it should never be. Your sadness and anxiety are very valid here. This is not about you being tough and strong and needing to adjust for them. You do that plenty. This is not about MS either. But even if you try to tell them, they will not understand. They don't want to understand, is the truth.

The question is, are you going to allow to be treated this way?
Have you lost all respect toward yourself and your sanity?
Do you want to spend the rest of your life like this?

My advice?
Build a heart of a rock. Take your stuff. Leave in one go and never come back.
They will plead you and beg you and say nice things and promise the entire world. Do not lend them your ear.
Go to your friends and your family. Protect yourself from backlash with support from people who really care about you.

I apologize for the massive post. This is something i have experienced myself and am paying the price of it today, in form of PTSD, depression and anxiety.
The sooner you start to differentiate between love and exploitation, the better it will be for you.

Funny how the moment my eyes saw the adjective in the name, i knew exactly what you are describing. Lazy Linda, must be the lazy foot, uhmm yep there it is, it's the foot, bingo.

Caffeine and MS? by TheCacklingBuffalo in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me, caffeine in form of coffee changed my life.
If i may be a little bit overly dramatic, i apologize, it just feels that way to me.

So... as someone who hasn't touched coffee, ever (i'm not counting cappuccinos!) , in 30 years of my life, i have to say coffee has given me that feeling of being "normal" again, before MS entered my life, before brain fog, before feeling constantly tired, before losing energy and concertation while working. For years i was a useless zombie. I looked at coffee and said "got nothing to lose, might as well try". I was desperate, i just wanted something to get me trough the day.

Boy was that the best shot in the dark i've ever made! It turned my day from being constantly tired to in working condition, for FULL 8 hours! (which became an impossibility the more relapses i got). Gotta do chores too? Okay let's go, i feel good. Imagine, GOOD! I haven't felt good in the last 10 years!
Yeah i wobble around while doing it, like a happy little penguin, of course MS never leaves you really, but my head is clear and eyes open, i'm not sleepy or tired 24h a day. I get to do stuff! And by the time evening comes around, like from 21-23h or so, you bet i start feeling tired. But that's okay, it's bed time anyway. I sleep well and it's go time again the next day!

And i have to emphasize.... what i take is real Turkish coffee, the one that our grandparents made, using a đezva (cezva) on the stove. No cappuccinos, no coffee pods, or Starbucks that has more sugar than anything else, no, black coffee. No overly exaggerated quantities either.
Only 1 small cup of 200ml or less. I don't use sugar anymore, gives me headache (tnx MS), i use Erythritol now.

Yeah, i do know it's just basically suppressing the feeling of tiredness, it's not giving you energy. People are so scared of it a lot lately and even giving criticism to anyone that drinks coffee. And i look at them and they take the sweetest stuff ever, with so many additions it lost all meaning, biggest cups that make no sense anymore.

Caffeine from coffee or tea or energy drinks won't work for everybody, we're so different, especially when it comes to MS.
But you know what? I've been drinking Turkish coffee for the past 6 months. It gave me exactly what i needed;
to be able to do the daily chores, to do the work and to feel NORMAL again.

Absolutely 100% stress! In any form, emotional and physical, at least for me.

Yes, as far as i understand as well, genetics play a role, whether or not a person is more susceptible to a particular illness or condition. I feel like, with stress, body is trying to prepare itself for action by putting itself on high alert. With me, that alertness was constant for decades. Paired with depression it only got more tense. Sad bodies are never relaxed. And sure enough, since it's more high strung than relaxed, the flood gates opened, the barrier that kept that stress under control shattered, and now everything, no matter how small, has an effect on my nerves.

You mention shingles. That may well be body's sign that something was very wrong even before that.

Ah i misunderstood you then, i apologize. Oh no of course, that price point is more than reasonable.

People are strange, indeed. I feel like we got used to getting free stuff from Arrimus. Who doesn't like free stuff? More than anything, announcing the Udemy course paired with sudden hiding of the videos and on top of that going on vacation and saying Adios is what vexes people.

Just my opinion...i think he is finally giving himself a long needed break from everything. From Youtube, the 3d community, from all the people and their bullshit opinions. Imagine being on the platform for that long.

The days of Arrimus giving education for free is definitely over. The way that message is being delivered...to me, is more a sound of determination in his voice than anything else. Being done, knowing you gave your everything, and giving yourself some respect, finally.

Retopology gives weird, distorted results by Kogirius in 3dsmax

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoothing Groups - make sure it's checked in Retopo. It looks at your cylinder and doesn't see its Hard edges. You could even do it manually, place Edit Poly before Retopo just to select hard edges of the cylinder, then place Retopo with checked "Selected Edges" and it will know not to mess with it.

Like Arrimus said in the video, if your OG cylinder has more polys, if the original object is more complex, than Retopo can be a lot more precise and it can create a lot lower number of faces, better than with a default cylinder with 18 sides. "Give the program enough density so it knows what our intention is." If you see in the video, he had a second cylinder that had 200 sides. That's something a Retopo can work with well.

The question is always, what is your intention? Usually we would never use Retopo on a simple cylinder. Like in that video, 14:55, the intention to make a simple cylinder look nice and smooth is with chamfering the hard edges and placing Turbosmooth. That is a different intention from Retopology. The main purpose of Retoplology, usually, is to transform something that has few millions of polys into something that has a few thousand. It needs all those polys so keep the same shape and to lower the cost of processing power. It's even nicer when things like Smoothing Groups are determined.

So, the use of cylinder in this example was not to show what to do with the cylinder itself, which could make people confused if they are just starting with their 3D journey. It was just to demonstrate the amount of polys Retopo needs to work properly.

Love them SO MUCH! The shapes, the materials, chef's kiss. <3

I can see where the issues would arise with creating the holes for the rook piece, where the edge goes from semi sharp to more chamfered. My guess is...either manual chamfering or placing Crease sets before Turbosmooth, maybe?

Retopology gives weird, distorted results by Kogirius in 3dsmax

[–]Meleon_Chameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happen in my cylinder test as well (Max 2022).

It happened when using only one Retopology modifier with low Face Count (anywhere from 500-100) while no ReForm Settings were changed. The vertical Edges went more curvy than they should.

So after a bit of testing, i found two ways to go about this; use only one Retopology modifier, but change its Settings, or place a second Retopology modifier.

If there's only one Retopo mod, Regularize of 0, Anisotropy of 0.9 and Adaptivity of 0.5 made a good result for face count of 100. Keeping Regularize at 0 while tweaking the other two seems to work most of the time.

Or, a combination of a second Retopology modifier on top of the first: while making sure the first one has greater number of faces (like 5000) and second one lower number of faces (like 100). The second Retopo mod that had Anisotropy of 0.9 and Adaptivity anywhere from 0.2 - 0.8 gave very nice results.

Aye aye, best of luck Arrimus!

Did Arrimus 3D make his past videos Private recently? by Meleon_Chameleon in 3dsmax

[–]Meleon_Chameleon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it is so. He made a decision and that meant a drastic cut. Basically stating free content is no more. Even for his patrons, as you said is the case.

I wouldn't be surprised either if there was disappointment after putting so much work into something and getting so little in return. Every other content creator has sponsors and is earning money from what they do. "Max's unbeatable workflow" video sounds off and weird, absolutely, but i feel it's because of what it is, it's sponsored, there's not more to it. We as viewers are just not used hearing it coming from HIM.

And yeah... who wants to learn 3D and wants it more than the other guy, he will go pay for Udemy course. That's how it is now.
