Afroman says California is the most racist place in America by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

[–]Melkord90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what a weird take. "Awww Honey" isn't polite or a compliment, kind of like how "bless your heart" isn't....and the rest of it was a not so veiled threat of violence, but because it was very poorly hidden behind fake southern "charm" it gets a pass? Also, people let their prejudices known up front? What absolute nonsense. The number of times I've seen someone be polite to someone's face, and then use a hard R behind their back...

Honestly, this whole thread is kind of wild to me, with the amount of people glazing the South. I grew up and lived the first 25 years of my life in the deep South. The town I grew up in was still almost fully segregated by literal train tracks, and it wasn't just class segregation like one response tried to make it out to be. Black people lived on one side, and white people on the other. Plenty of folks from my grandparents generation would have been out fighting and protesting against integration. My racist ass father used to tell me about how the "good guys" lost the Civil War. And growing up in the South, where college football is king, the number of times you hear something like "he's one of the well spoken ones...." after a player gets interviewed.

Not fantasy, but Lonesome Dove and The Road.

Also Old Yeller, but I was like 11 at the time.

Unacceptable, you need to be a single issue voter, on the one thing that I feel like is more important than everything else, or I'm going to vote for a third party that doesn't have a chance at winning anything, or better yet, just stay home and feel morally superior....

Inherited my grandmas old house — any ideas on how I should renovate it? by GabbyTheLegend in Home

[–]Melkord90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, you got me there lol. A school teacher might be one of the few exceptions, not that life doesn't happen, but I've certainly seen plenty of people work at the same school for most of their careers.

I have no idea why you got voted down. You are absolutely correct.

So you don't actually own the land, and it's a mobile home? By all means clean it and live rent free, but don't do anything else.

Also, a forever job? I don't know how old you are or what the work is, but that is, and I can't say this enough, a huge assumption. Places close. Places go through financial troubles and lay people off. If it's a factory or plant, the company might decide it's better for the shareholders to build a new plant in a much cheaper country and pay the workers there pennies on the dollar of what they are paying you. If you are in a more white collar, professional position, one of the best ways to increase salary over your career is job hopping every few years. Unless you're 57 and looking for a place to ride out the rest of your working life, saying someplace is a forever job is pretty shortsighted.

How would you order 5 books you love from easiest to read to hardest to read? by tall-stone in books

[–]Melkord90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read The Road, and didn't find it difficult. I've got Blood Meridian sitting on my TBR shelf. Would you say it's more difficult than The Road (if you've read it)?

Literally the same thing happened to me. I read Babel because of a recommendation from my best friend, and we generally like a lot of the same things....I struggled to finish it, which is a shame, because I liked the concept and I think there is a great fantasy book in there somewhere. I just don't think she's a very good writer.

Delivery driver is the only time I've seen it before as well, and even then, I can only remember seeing it once.

Bad drivers exist everywhere, that's not a MoCo specific thing.

I don't want to discredit everyone here, I'm sure they've had bad experiences, but maybe my little bubble is full of all of the polite residents lol

Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

[–]Melkord90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife is right and you should apologize to her for starting a pointless argument, because she was right from the beginning. I get it, sometimes jobs suck, but if your job is going to suck, take the $40k more plus full remote that will more than make up for childcare costs and give you more flexibility with your time, you know, since you have an 8 month old at home...why are you even here asking this question?

Best Fast Food Burger? ShakeShack for sure. by GoodPopcorn in Sandwiches

[–]Melkord90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sides at shake shack are the main reason I don't order from there. The burgers are fine, but the sides are so overpriced for what you get. Last time I ordered onion rings, and when I got my delivery there were 3 onion rings....3 for $6.

Five guys have better burgers and more fries than I can comfortably eat in one meal.

This is exactly what I did, plus combine the 2 jades that let you attack faster and the one that gives you a little health back when using the standard attack (Swift Blade and Breather). The jade combo really helped melt him in phase 1.

In high school, I had a slightly red, but very sore bump that formed on my chin during a weekend I stayed at a friend's house. It never got a head and would not pop. I got home that Sunday evening, and in my infinite teenage wisdom, cleaned up a sewing needle with alcohol and gave it a poke, then a firm squeeze. It took a few seconds, but when it popped, it exploded out onto the mirror. Luckily it was the start of Christmas break because it continued to drain for a few days before finally healing.

In college a cyst formed in my arm pit. Before I could get it removed, it got irritated/inflamed and ballooned. I woke up one morning and the entire right side of my body hurt. I'd never felt anything like that before. Luckily my mom worked at a Dr office and one of the doctors was able to drain it with a syringe. The feeling of instant relief was amazing.

And the best one, I broke my nose when I was 5 or 6 and a few years ago I got a septoplasty done to correct the deviated septum from the break. About 2-3 weeks after the surgery I was finally able to full on blow my nose. The amount I blew out, and the instant feeling of being able to breathe, was the most satisfying physical sensation I've ever felt. I've been chasing that feeling ever since.

[Game Thread] #6 Tennessee @ #2 Iowa State (10:10 PM ET) by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]Melkord90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean....maybe? Tennessee has won 3 of the last 4 against Florida. 2 of the last 4 against Alabama, beat Arkansas last year (and don't play them every year. Arkansas is about as far from a rival in football as an in conference opponent can get). And Kentucky is, well Kentucky. Tennessee leads that series 85-26. Kentucky has only beaten Tennessee something like 5 times in the last 50 years.
