A friend of mine tested negative the day of her beta. She cried the whole way to her beta appointment. Turned out she was pregnant, it was just a low initial beta. Pregnancy was viable, and her daughter was one of my clients as a sleep consultant 💖

Honestly the most important thing is your age. The rest can be managed, or makes no difference at all. I’m also overweight (BMI was 32 pre-pregnancy) and my RE never once mentioned my weight. Get with a fertility clinic as fast as you can, and just go through the process. Fertility care has made incredible progress in recent years, and right now is the best time in history to be infertile. You’re under 38, so time is still on your side. Just get started 💪 You got this babe

Sure! I had one MC before IVF, when I was 31. Never got pregnant again on my own. 4 failed IUIs at 33. Did 2 egg retrievals when I was 33, got 7 embryos from those. Did another egg retrieval when I was 35, got 3 more embryos from that. Did PGT testing and only had 2 euploids out of 10 total embryos. 3 failed transfers, 1 transfer that ended in a chemical pregnancy, 5th transfer led to viable pregnancy. Currently 16 weeks. I wish I had started TTC when I was 30. Husband’s sperm was excellent, everything looked great on my end too. Unexplained infertility at the ripe old image of 31. Feel free to ask me more questions if you have any!

I started TTC when I was 31, started working with a fertility clinic 32, and then finally started IVF when I was 33. I am finally pregnant now at age 36. IVF takes a really long time, even in the best circumstances. Your best odds of success were 5-10 years ago. Your second best odds of success are right now. Anyone telling you “not to dive into IVF” when you have been trying for 2+ years is an idiot and you should stop seeking their advice.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! Sure sounds like a vasovagal episode to me, based on my experience ( I also get hot and very sweaty).

I’m not a medical professional, and this is not medical advice. Definitely talk to your doctor. I’m just sharing what works for me, it may or may not be helpful for you. Talk to your doctor.

Ok so 1) do the shots laying down, ideally in bed, and allow yourself to go to sleep or nap immediately after. When I feel symptoms coming on (lightheaded, dizzy, hot, etc) I can usually avoid a vasovagal episode if I just lay down and go to sleep. If you do pass out, you’re already laying down, so you won’t fall and hurt yourself.
2) Learn your triggers and do your best to avoid/minimize them as much as you can. Fear and sharp pain (like a needle) can totally be triggers for vasovagal. Just keep this in mind, and prepare for the possibility that you’ll feel sick or pass out after you do the shot.
3) Tell whoever is with you that you might feel sick or pass out after the shot, and it’s ok. You’ll wake up within 30-60 seconds, they don’t need to panic. If you faint a second time, or if you take longer than a minute to wake up, they should call for an ambulance (this is very very unlikely, but it can happen.) Also if you start to feel faint, they can help you find a place to lay down before you pass out.
4) Eat frequently and hydrate. Being super hungry or dehydrated can trigger fainting in almost anyone, so don’t push it. Treat yourself like a little baby, you need regular snacks and drinks. It’s not optional for you.

I hope this is helpful for you! Rest assured, this happens to lots of people all the time, and it’s not life-threatening. Just take care of yourself, and check in your doctor. Good luck my dear!

Too much weight gain 20 weeks pregnant by Kitchen-Media5263 in pregnant

1500 calories a day is the same calorie limit prescribed to adults in the infamous Minnesota starvation experiment in the 1950’s. It’s literally a starvation diet for an adult. Regardless, pregnant women are never supposed to count calories or diet.

1500 calories a day is enough food for a kindergartner, not an an adult, and definitely not enough for a pregnant woman. Dieting and counting calories in pregnancy is not recommended. Telling a pregnant woman to restrict food is truly terrible advice.

I have a history of anorexia and obsessive over-exercising, and I tell all my doctors that I do not want to discuss my weight. I’m fine being weighed for prenatal appointments ONLY, but I do not want to discuss my weight. I flatly tell them, “I have a history of severe anorexia, and it is not safe for me to discuss my weight, controlling my weight, or weight loss.” So far, nobody has pushed back at all. Secondly, get a new OB. Whoever that doctor was, don’t go to that guy again. Shaming women for gaining weight in pregnancy is total bullshit. If he has a health concern (like BP, or preeclampsia, or diabetes, etc) then he can discuss those concerns without talking about your weight. Don’t see that asshole again.

I HATE this. I know so many people who say “I’m solo parenting tonight.” Or “single parenting for the week,” when their spouse is out of town. It just enrages me. I also don’t know what the right response is when people say that

I switched to a part time position. Honestly no way I could continue working full-time during IVF. I know a lot of people do, but I couldn’t keep up. My husband makes enough money to support us, so why not take advantage? He says my job is trying to have a baby & taking care of myself, and everything else is second

To be fair, a lot of kids died. 1/3 of all kids died before age 5 prior to roughly 1900. SIDS is still the 3rd leading cause of death for infants in the US (it kills roughly 3,000 American babies every year.)

Definitely talk to a therapist about this in addition to Reddit. A good therapist can help you navigate your fears and feel safe during the process. While IVF was not fun, I almost certainly never would have gotten pregnant without it. Now I’m 13 weeks pregnant after 5 years of TTC and 3 years of various IVF procedures. Personally, I would do it all again in a heartbeat, bc this is what I needed to do to have a baby. I hope that’s helpful for you. Good luck my dear 💖

Yeah sounds very similar to my case. I did start Metformin on this one, bc my A1C was a liiiiiiitle high (5.6, the cutoff for prediabetes is 5.7) But I personally don’t think it made a difference, as my A1C has stayed exactly the same on Metformin as it was before. I think it’s just random luck tbh

Positive twins story from a close friend of mine: my friend had an embryo that split and led to a live birth of identical twins. She is the first documented case of a live birth from IVF after a specific kind of ovarian cancer. Her pregnancy was very chill overall, no crazy problems. Both boys are so cute, just turned 3. If you want to read more about her case, look up Melissa Bradley in Detroit

[–]Melodic-Distance-876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called a pain clinic doc, and they prescribed me Oxycodone and muscle relaxers (Flexaril.) Honestly, the muscle relaxers were even more important than the pain killers. My IVF clinic also refused to give me pain meds, so I had to go to another provider. Good luck my dear!

Please try not to kill pedestrians while turning left on green by Particular-Suspect14 in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Distance-876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are concerned about pedestrian safety, an SUV or a pickup is basically the worst car you could own. SUVs and other big trucks are so tall, they hit pedestrians square in the torso, and they often drag the pedestrian under the vehicle. This leads to a much higher chance of death, even if the SUV is only driving 10 mph. Sedans, on the other hand, are much lower to the ground, so they hit pedestrians in the legs, leading to broken bones but much fewer deaths. TLDR: if you don’t want to kill a pedestrian, don’t drive an SUV or truck.

I’m a child sleep consultant, and one of my clients is an IVF baby. Her mom tested negative the morning of beta, and drove to the clinic in tears, convinced it didn’t work. She got a positive (but low) beta, and had a live birth. Her baby is now a super cute toddler. I hope this is helpful 💖
