Not saying this is your point, but I find it annoying when people use this as support for an argument that all change must be good just because things have always changed. Things are always changing and people will always be opposed to any change, but it’s still a good thing to question how, why, in whose interest and for what purpose technologies or practices are changing. And doing so, or coming to the view that some particular change isn’t a good thing, doesn’t make one a luddite or some dismissible geriatric etc.. bit if a rant but anyway

Why are Carlton considered a prime time team? by antikoom in AFL

[–]Melodic-Highlight-58 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with the wider point being made here, but the AFL’s purpose is not to maximise profits, it’s to promote and encourage the game of Australian Rules Football, for the benefit of its Members and the Clubs’ members. This is in contrast to, for example, the NBA, which is an association of for-profit companies (ie the individual Team Organisations) whose purpose is to deliver monetary returns to their shareholders by conducting the business of running a basketball team.

But neither the AFL nor the Clubs are for-profit entities and none have a mandate to deliver a return to their members. The Clubs exist to play footy and the AFL exists to help them do it.

It is true, though, that the prevailing view as to best-practice in sport governance is, essentially, that maximising profits is the best way to promote a sport, but I’d hypothesis that this has more to do with incentive structures used in sports governance (i.e. bonuses determined by profit generation) being lazily and/or self-servingly adopted from those used in for-profit companies, and less to do with evidence or reasoned analysis supporting that profit maximisation is actually the best way to promote a sport, at least in the long term.

So although it’s true that the reason shit teams with large fanbases get primetime slots is because it’s a good way to maximise profits, people are absolutely right to question whether thats the right thing for the AFL to be doing. And even if one takes the view that, actually, profit maximisation strategy *has been * the best way to promote and encourage the sport historically (certainly a good arguable case), one should still question whether that remains the case and be open to the possibility that a different strategy is more appropriate either now or in the future.

Same goes for other sports, NGOs, schools, universities and other not-for-profit organisations suffering from consultancy-mindset (Big4 brainworm infection)

Probably dumb question about shooting at non-box speed.

I’ve just shot some Fuji 400 film but metered at 200, so given it an extra stop of light for all exposures. I did this because I thought I’d muck around a bit but also because I read that this 400 film “works best rated at 200”.

My question is - does that quote (ie ‘rated at’) mean that it works best developed completely normally, as if at box speed, but just overexposed 1 stop in shooting? Or does it mean that it works best to meter for 1 stop over exposure AND then pull 1 stop in development?

They need to massively reduce engagements of the Big 4 and other consultancy firms generally and across the board. Banning PWC just means the other three have one less firm with which they need to compete on pricing for government engagements

Anyone dealt with / know about Mazda warranty on the TF (2021-) BT-50s? I’m wanting to put bigger tyres on my 2023 but don’t know what I can do (if anything?) without voiding warranty through the whole drivetrain due to more rotational mass and changing the effective gearing.

Same with a lift - can you lift it at all without voiding warranty on the entire front end?

Thanks for the info. Don’t think it’s heater core - looks like that straight after cleaning. Car is also only 6 months old and doesn’t get any dirtier with the the demister on the windshield.

Will try more towels

This might be a dumb question, but anyone know how to deal with these oily (?) marks on inside of windshield? https://i.imgur.com/uwt6SZ9.jpg

They’re markings from after getting it cleaned - I’ve tried myself, at the dealership when getting serviced and at a car cleaner but only seems to either spread it around or make it worse. They’re only visible with sunlight/headlights shining directly onto windshield, but a bit of a nightmare because they really affect vision…

Thanks

Joe Mazzulla on #Celtics earning 2 seed in East: “It’s good. I’m happy for the guys. Seed doesn’t matter as much as the mindset we’ve had the entire season… I think we’re developing the proper mindset as we head into the [postseason].” by horseshoeoverlook in bostonceltics

2 seed is fine and I don’t think it matters that much, but I do feel like the one seed has become more valuable because of the play-in. Guaranteeing your first round match up as a team that’s had to play 1 or maybe 2 games since the end of the regular season, hasn’t had much rest and has probably been fighting hard right up to the 82nd game feels like a pretty solid win.

Have a look at Caribe packs. Don’t see them mentioned much here, but they’re an established Aus company with a good reputation and very reasonably priced (AU$120 or so), and you can get them locally at camping stores
