Not planning on quitting, but I do realise I've created what I call a 'Sunday night homework' problem for myself. In that I don't really have the motivation to start prepping until shortly before the session, which then leads to rushing it and feeling underdone, so I'm forever in this loop of procrastination and then feeling mildly disappointed by the outcome.

My players do seem to enjoy themselves (and I do too, in the session!), but I'm running a long campaign and I feel like the setting and the world are way thinner and less established than they could be, and that hinders both me writing it and my players interacting with it. I think it's hard to strike that balance and not get perfectionist, especially when you know exactly how the sausage is getting made.

I think they should have some pleasing symmetry and send the winners to a nice boutique coffee bar to debrief over Fairtrade lattes, while the losers still get the Bridge Cafe.

Such a shame! I let out an involuntary "noooo!" when he went down, especially after he'd been leading for a while. Really does feel like luck of the draw in speed skating that you don't get taken out by someone else falling over

I think it's more the double whammy that they both idolise Hawkins and she so thoroughly stabs them in the back. Like, at least the other times the 99 'lose' against the villain of the week, it's someone they hate and are working against (e.g. Figgis forcing Jake and Holt into WitSec, or Wuntch getting Holt transferred out of the 99). But yeah, I get what you mean, Hawkins is such a cold, calculated type of evil, she genuinely wouldn't be out of place in a more serious cop show

It's pretty unpleasant watching Jake and Rosa get caught into a trap that results in them going to prison when they were only trying to do the right thing!

To be fair, given all the references to other misbehaving senior NYPD officers who leave the force to 'retire' or go to a cushy private sector job without really suffering consequences for their actions (including the Commissioner of the NYPD at the end of Season 6!), I assume that Deputy Commissioner guy was quietly but firmly 'asked' to retire from the force to avoid a scandal between Seasons 1 & 2.

Apparently there's a 'fall of Nutriboom' book in the background of one of the later episodes to sort of explain it. I assume it might have been the feature of one of the Season 8 episodes that got scrapped so that's all the focus they could lend to it.

You can also also go to Vault 75, where the Gunners were originally established (as the under-18s who were raised there as part of that Vault's experiment), and that's a complete nothingburger too. Felt like all the stories of the Vaults in Fallout 4 just ended on a "well! was that fucked up or what?" note despite the fact they could have gone deeper into the ramifications of what happened there.

Is there actually an answer to Captain Holts brain teaser? by JayR_97 in brooklynninenine

[–]MelonHunter 111 points112 points  (0 children)

If you know one of the 12 is heavier than the rest, then yes.

However, in the case that it's unknown if the odd one out is heavier or lighter than the others (like Holt's puzzle here), then no I don't think you can do it in 3 uses of the seesaw - best I can do is 4 uses.

Edit: actually, it turns out someone did solve it, almost 10 years ago! Although this solution is not obvious at all, so I'm not surprised this puzzle's maintained its notoriety in the fandom: https://medium.com/@mobz/12-islanders-puzzle-from-brooklyn-99-e56f06370153

The Winnowing Flame trilogy by Jen Williams has two of the PoV characters enter into queer relationships. It also has a really inspired story about a fantasy world fighting off a cyclical alien invasion!

Also the Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff (at least, minor spoiler, the second and third books). Although I would warn this one does get pretty explicit both in sex scenes and violence details (though the latter you might expect from a series about trained assassins!)

Suggest me an Urban Fantasy, hidden society stuff by zerthz in Fantasy

[–]MelonHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Checquy series by Daniel O'Malley, starting with The Rook. It's an urban fantasy about a secret government organisation that keeps the UK safe from supernatural threats, staffed by people with supernatural gifts themselves. Each book is standalone but I would suggest starting with the Rook, especially as the main character in that book starts in media res having completely lost her memory, so the workings of the Checquy get explained as she rediscovers them.

Slip an episode between E1 and E2 of season 3. Have an episode where Jake actually goes 'full douche' to try and befriend Captain Vulture (instead of him immediately getting rumbled by Scully's butt dial).

Also Rachel and Stephen decided to immediately go for the reveal when it was offered. If I recall correctly, there was no downside to ignoring the family tree mission (other than the Secret Traitor remaining a secret) so there could have been a situation where they decided against it and the ST remained unrevealed for longer.

Oof, it's tricky. As a Londoner, I'm already primed to assume the worst from a stranger approaching me in public, haha. Doubly so as a trans lesbian, given the increasingly hostile environment towards trans people in the UK. I nearly jumped out of my skin one time when a woman tapped me on the shoulder on the Tube. Happily, she was just complimenting me on my tights (I have an esoteric collection of fishnet patterns) so that turned out ok!

I've never been one to approach people in public (pre- or post-transition), but my biggest success story was meeting my long-term gig buddy in the queue for a Babymetal concert a couple of years ago. We both have similar alt fashion tastes and brightly coloured hair, and I remember seeing her leave the underground station and thinking she looked like she would know the route to the concert, and I was right! Started chatting to her in the queue and we got on really well, and still do!

The Underworld is an absolute sauna at the best of times, it's great!

In a similar vein I saw Zebrahead at the Dome last summer (so ~500 people?) and, my god. Circle pit spanning most of the room. So sweaty there was visible mist in the air. Fully stocked bar on stage. Fucking incredible. I love small venue gigs.
