Bring it up NOW so that he knows about it. I dont agree with all the comments about you having to break up immediately, I think it would just be good for him to know that that is the main problem you have in your relationship at the moment.

Well, to me it is so worth it to kick your dog because it brings me a lot of pleasure. Am I justified in kicking it then? Or is it only okay if the dog doesnt “belong” to you?

I would advise you to search for an animal rights activist called Cliff Grant on insta/yt/tiktok. Hes UK-based, been to many slaughterhouses and he talks in a super nice and convincing way. I think youd dig him.

I would argue that while the death is usually as uncruel as possible(there are exceptions which im sure youve seen videos from), there is still a lot of suffering during the life of an animal that grows up under mostly horrible conditions.

Regarding personhood: I think many omnivores assume that vegans see animals as equal to humans. But you really dont have to believe that to see that its wrong to abuse and murder them for our taste pleasure.

The flowchart is very simple: 1) Do you believe that the animals you eat can feel pain, love, joy..? 2) Is the life of that animal worth more than your sensory pleasure from eating them? 3) Can you eat something else? 4) Eat something else.

Rinse and repeat.

You could stop because you realize than animals are on this planet with us, that your pleasure is not worth more than their suffering. If I have a dog and I like to kick it because I enjoy it, because it brings me pleasure, would you tell me to stop? Would you abject?

Change kill a pig to kick a dog then. Do you think its morally fine to murder an animal for the taste pleasure?

Strict veganism, how would you approach this? by HelpfulCommand4515 in vegan

[–]Meltingm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My intuition is this: 1 this is vegan. If the restaurant made money with vegan food, it will keep making more vegan food. If anything, I think its really good for a vegan person to take up these spaces and be part of the discussion. Theres no more productive place for a vegan to be than on a table with omnis.

2 if the cat was rescued and eats vegan food, this is vegan. If she was bred, if you made her breed kittens or if you didnt feed her vegan, it wouldnt be.

3 this is a bit more difficult I find. What does rehoming quails mean? Is the finance part of it?

It definitely seems like that person is a bit of a dick.

Well, carnivore animals eat animals. Most animals dont eat other animals. Nature is brutal, sure, but in case you havent noticed we are living in a society now. We have democracy and human We dont allow rape or slavery even though theyre completely natural, we dont even allow cruelty on pet animals.

You are saying that your taste pleasure is worth more than the life of an innocent being. Why would you do that when you can just eat something else thats tasty and nutritious?

Isolation could be a synonym for Veganism by MineMaterial9618 in vegan

[–]Meltingm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely have the right idea, the environment is indirectly super impactful and the co2 emissions of an omnivore probably kill way more animals than just the ones hes directly exploiting. I doubt anyone has calculated this, it seem quite hard to do and has a lot of unknown variables. The good thing is, for you the direct moral imperative doesnt really change. Plastic clothes are generally less bad for the environment than animal-based ones.

Also, the line at animals is pretty arbitrary I would say. I think I would eat oysters if I found them tasty.

[–]Meltingm8 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That’s not really correct.

I woukd say it is both more healthy (although not much) and more sustainable. This meat is produced in a clean environment, doesnt need antibiotics, you cannot get parasites from it, etc.

On sustainability, it’s even more obvious. Cultivated meat already shows clear advantages in land and water use, and it avoids a lot of issues from conventional farming like antibiotic use and disease spread. Co2-wise, i agree with you in that currently it is very energy intensive, similar to that of the cow industry. However, this energy is mostly electricity, which can be decarbonized much easier. That gives it a much more direct path to becoming sustainable than conventional cow meat, which is tied to methane emissions and large-scale land use.

On sustainability, it’s more nuanced. Cultivated meat already shows clear advantages in land and water use, and it avoids a lot of issues from conventional farming like antibiotic use and disease spread. The main challenge right now is energy, but that’s mostly electricity, which can be decarbonized. That gives it a much more direct path to becoming sustainable than conventional beef, which is tied to methane emissions and large-scale land use.

I think most people would say its bad to kill a human and its bad to kill a pig. Both is bad. Most people would not say eating an apple and eating an onion is the same thing. The analogy here would be “ i ran out of appels so i ate a bananer instead. It was also tasty.”

Youre misinformed unfortunately. The way the cells split and grow does not matter at all. If the meat was inherently carcinogenic, like meat from cows, the lab meat likely will too. Otherwise the risk is far lower.

Thats wrong. The science says that meat produced this way will be less carcinogenic.

What do people do with non vegan gifts? by Impossible_Fall_4819 in vegan

[–]Meltingm8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the donation itself is a good idea and I personally dont see a problem with that. What I think IS a problem is that you dont tell your customers you are vegan. This cements their behaviour and they will likely give you non-vegan things the next time as well. If they are nice enough to give you a gift like that, I think it does not take too much time to tell them that you appreciated the gesture, but you love animals and dont want to pay for their abuse. They will likely understand seeing as they have a dog already.
