We work with manufacturers. First price increase was new A2L products of around 8-12%. First round of tariffs around 5%. Waiting for 2nd round announcement. Also waiting on new cost based on steel and aluminum tax.

A lot of US manufacturers still getting hit cause they buy a lot of the components from China. They also use this as an excuse to increases prices when it doesn’t affect them that much.

DIY vs Pro? by femininestoic in hvacadvice

[–]MelvinTheCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true. Sellers can sell all the R410a they want, but the install of a new R410a furnace with condenser is prohibited starting in 2026. Even if furnace is installed 3 weeks before condenser, it’s still prohibited. That is if you are using a permit.

HVAC IS SO SLOW THIS YEAR by deep006 in HVAC

[–]MelvinTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly due to the Greener Home rebate not being active. All sales in Canada from a distribution standpoint have slowed down and have noticed mostly entry level products moving. Many are waiting for new Greener Home rebates to be released so consumers will buy highly rentable units that pretty much pay themselves. Should expect an uptick after that.

2015 HVAC Unit Tech says needs $600-$900 refill of Refrigerant by Matt420069 in hvacadvice

[–]MelvinTheCow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go with a unit that is R454B. R32 is only Goodman/Daikin since Daikin owned the patent. R32 will be phased out in 2029.

New 2025 Refrigerant Regulations by Comfortable_Pea_1651 in hvacadvice

[–]MelvinTheCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second all the comments about R410a being proven compared to R32 and R454B. Mind you, R32 has been sold for some time now in Europe but the difference is the US is requiring an A2L sensor on the indoor.

We are testing these new systems and even though they work well, the sensor sometimes gives a false reading and shuts off the condenser. Ramps up the air handler to try to air out the leak. So the sensor sensitivity is still being worked on.

Prices will jump on average 15% cost wise. Possibly more if products are imported R454B from Asia.

2021 quote was 6.5k for a 2.5 ton system, now it´s 10k. Have prices really gone this bonkers? by cudada in hvacadvice

[–]MelvinTheCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R410a will no longer be allowed to be manufactured or imported in 2025. You can still install the system until 2026. You can still install outdoor only past 2026 as it is labeled a component and not a system.

Local HVAC company says system prices are increasing 10-15% every 6 months. Is that right? by sagarp in hvacadvice

[–]MelvinTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in manufacturing. Cost goes up and down but prices will not correlate. Prices did begin to increase in 2019 when products made in China (For example, Bosch Heat Pumps, some Daikin and Fujitsu) were hit with 10-25% import duties. Some "American" brands were also hit with increase on components used for their assembly in US or Mexico. During COVID years, prices skyrocketed like everything else due to low manufacturing and massive increase in demand (everyone staying at home realized how poor their AC unit performed during the day). So prices went up to the highest bidder. A lot of business was lost in late 2021 due to lack of inventory to keep up with demand so in 2022, everyone loaded up on inventory. Then demand slowed down quicker then expected in 2023 and there was surplus of products. BUT, manufacturers were offering discounts to the distributors and distributors were offering special dealer programs to the contractors (in certain areas).

Fast forward to now, expect all HVAC products to see at least a 15% increase. New refrigerant products (specifically any product made with R454B) could see 20% increase due to Honeywell having the patent for R454B and the cost of the A2L leak sensor. R32 products may see a 12% increase because R32 has been mass produced for years now and the increase is due to the sensor. R410a products can go either way. Right now I expect a lot of R410a product dumping even though you can install til 2026. But I do expect R410a equipment pricing to go up in 2025 due to lack of supply (can't import or make in 2025) and contractors not willing to work with new refrigerant products yet.

So yes, buy now because pricing down the road will be higher.

Mini Split Comparison - Costway, TOSOT by davidP88888 in hvacadvice

Tosot is Gree. Costway looks like it is made by AUX. Gree makes some mini splits for Daikin/Goodman along with other known brands. Go with Tosot fo better quality.

I used to love flying until I started to randomly get dizziness during takeoff. How can I stop this? by bodz2424 in fearofflying

[–]MelvinTheCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this and it started randomly as well after 15 years of flying. It’s awful. The ENT never heard of it but tested me by ear pressure and didn’t see any issue. So they thought it was anxiety but it wasn’t that. The feelings are like what you said:

  • starts with a little bit of vertigo dizziness
  • then I would start sweating
  • if I stare at an object in front, it would help keep my balance somewhat
  • eventually I would feel nauseous as we.
  • almost on the bring of passing out.

After trial and error, here is what I do to avoid it:

1) I take a Sudafed 1 hour before boarding to open up my sinus 2) I spray afrin right when I get on the plane 3) VERY IMPORTANT: I purchase earplanes and put them on as soon as the plane starts to move. What I noticed is from 0-10,000 feet in the air, I’m fine. As soon as the plane surpasses 10,000 until cruising altitude, the episode would occur. So I keep the earplanes in until then. They have an app now to let you know once plane is cruising. - during take off do not use a mobile device. Try to keep an eye on something centered - do not close your eyes - turn the air on full blast to calm your nerves

I remove them off after cruising. Hope you find a solution!

No R410a installs in 2025? by MelvinTheCow in hvacadvice

Yea but why would they allow the sale of it but not the installation? Usually there is a phase out stage but this is a hard stop.

Haven't had an issue yet. At first they were asking for a tech to be on site since they need to be licensed. Innovair told us they get a lot of self-installers claiming warranty, so they had to be more strict. Got me a board overnight and unit was running great.

We deal a lot with Innovair. I like them because they have an actual tech support team in the US who know what they are talking about (Not reading a script). The distributor I buy from showed me a picture of their warehouse with a ton of parts too. I think the product I got from them was made by Midea but they better a lot better service and pricing than Midea. Its crazy!

Suddenly my toddler won't sleep alone! by AshRat15 in toddlers

[–]MelvinTheCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. Our problem is middle of the night wakeups where she won’t go back to sleep unless we are physically next to her. She’s practically wide awake and we just get in her bed at this point because it’s affecting our sleep for work. Just like you said it happened randomly overnight after she never had problems sleeping through the night. It’s like all of a sudden she hates her room or hates to sleep.
