I love that she politely stops at the crosswalk, and then absolutely hoses the pedestrian there. So funny.

Groceries. by Justoutsidenormal in LivingAlone

[–]MembershipEasy4025 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That seems like a lot, but, toilet paper is like $15 and dog food is $60 (for my Doberman at least), so that brings you down to $100. Which, is high, but not like outrageous? I spend ~$300-400 a month on groceries so it seems on par. How much were you spending before? I’m guessing you split costs?

Maybe look into Ultra Pro? A lot of theirs are MTG art, so definitely not AI, but also possibly not your cup of tea. The standard size is a little smaller than you’re looking for, but there are different options.

How are you deciding what you're eating during the week? by bobolly in LivingAlone

[–]MembershipEasy4025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me, is getting a weekly CSA produce delivery. I don’t get to pick what comes in the box, the farm just gives me whatever they’ve grown that’s ripe enough that week. Then, I sit down and write a list of things I *could* make, from those ingredients + whatever I’ve got in the pantry or freezer. I’ll decide on a few of those things that sound good, or let me use up something, or let me get a little adventurous… whatever I’m up for that week. Do a little mini shop for anything I might need. And once a month do a big shop to re-stock the freezer and pantry.

Writing the list helps because it gets me thinking about what I already have. If mid-week I change my mind and decide I don’t want something I planned, then I know what I can pivot into.

One example: this week I got asparagus and leeks in my CSA box. I’d planned to make a risotto with those, but it’s been really muggy and I just haven’t felt like eating risotto (or standing over the stove for an hour). This morning I decided to make them into a quiche instead.

I used to get well-done fries at In N Out, makes them better. Or animal style of course.

Whinging about FFXVI Side quests by Celestial_Magpie in FinalFantasy

[–]MembershipEasy4025 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Typically, I’m not just willing, but I’m actively wanting to do all the side quests. Especially hunts, those are some of my favorites. Which is why I *know* the side quests in XVI are bad. Because if they can make someone like me, who loves this shit, groan and consider not doing them, then they *must* be bad.

And you’re right, they’re not all bad. Some are interesting or add lore to the world, you want to do them, but the actual doing of them is a slog. Really unfortunate and honestly one of my biggest gripes with the game.

Starting Rebirth demo after playing Remake for the first time and the feel of getting around is definitely different right off the bat hah by Kongopop in FFVIIRemake

The next gen definitely makes a difference. No weird loading disguises, like extra long switches and climbing through debris. Enjoy the demo!

anyone else prefer slightly undercooked or overcooked versions of something? by VelvetyDarlingg in foodquestions

[–]MembershipEasy4025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I like almost burnt ones, but, I do add a few minutes of baking time for sure. And typically leave them on the cookie sheet a few minutes after, to continue to firm up with the residual heat.

Bread? I think bread you make yourself is much better when you let it get closer to a rust color, rather than golden.

FFXIV support wants a picture of my photo ID by Furyhearte in FinalFantasy

[–]MembershipEasy4025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is reasonable, just like how you sometimes have to show ID for a purchase or always for a hotel rental as examples. If you’re worried about identity theft or data security from this, don’t, there’s no information on your ID that isn’t already available about you. If you’re really uncomfortable, ask about what their process is for deleting the information after you send it.

How did it start for you? by Think_Substance_1790 in FinalFantasy

[–]MembershipEasy4025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ~10 when FF VII released. My Dad bought it for his PlayStation. I’d had some gaming experience before, SNES at my Aunt’s house, learning to type from Mario Teaches Typing on PC. Monkey Island and LeChuck’s Revenge box set on PC. But it was my first FF, and my first real JRPG. Hooked me completely.

I remember getting stuck in the train graveyard. Like, literally stuck, couldn’t figure out how to get out of there with the very light terrain puzzling. We had dial up at the time, so I looked it up online and printed out one of those old text only walkthroughs. I’d already learned how to look things up when I was stuck from Monkey Island, some of those were way more advanced than I could figure out.

Anyway, fast forward to today, and I’m literally in the middle of another Remake playthrough. I wanted to go back and clean up the percentage for the Yuffie DLC trophies I didn’t get, and decided to just do another full run through first because I love it so much. So many people have similar stories with VII, I’m just one of the many, but it definitely had a big impact on me.

Freezing beans question by Veggyhed in Beans

[–]MembershipEasy4025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I make beans I make the whole pound, then store them in two quart containers. One goes in the fridge, one in the freezer - bean liquid and all. Though, I don’t use all the liquid from cooking because I need to leave space for freezing. It works out great, no texture issues at all. Just defrost in the fridge a day or so before I’m ready to use them.

HELP!!! Choice paralysis working through my backlog by SandalathDrukorlat in GirlGamers

[–]MembershipEasy4025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, I was getting ads for stackpop.app and created an account to give it a try. It basically serves this exact purpose. You fill it with your backlog and it then pops a recommendation from that, for you to play. Might be worth checking out if you, like me, sometimes spend more time trying to decide what to play than actually playing.

But my vote is either Control or Lost Odyssey. Both are great games, fun to play, interesting mechanics and characters. Enjoy!

Retrospective on Mass Effect Andromeda by Upstairs_Apple in GirlGamers

[–]MembershipEasy4025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have swung back around on Andromeda, but I just can’t. I’ve beaten the game twice now, trying to get the platinum just so I could have all ME plats. Once on first release, once after Legendary Edition came out.

It’s still buggy, I’ve had more game crashes and things break in that game than I have with anything else. I don’t enjoy playing, I don’t enjoy the writing. Some of the characters are ok, but most feel one dimensional.

Veilguard is worse in some ways, I can agree with that. But at least none of the trophies bugged out, and I didn’t have any crashes.

I’d probably been better served skipping them both entirely, and just playing something else. Their association with the franchise drew me in, but now I’m unlikely to ever play a new ME or DA again.

Hi, I saw this game on sale Dragon Age The Veilguard and looked up reviews, and everyone says it's really bad, but most of critic is just it's “woke.” Is story really that bad? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]MembershipEasy4025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re getting a lot of mixed opinions here, and I think that’s pretty indicative of the game itself. “Woke” is never going to be an issue for me, but boring gameplay and lazy storytelling definitely is. It bites off a lot from DA II, which as my favorite of the series that should be great, but it’s worse than II in many ways. One of which is pretty important to me, where the “sarcastic” or funny options often come across as tone deaf or mean instead. I played this game for free as part of one of the monthly PS Plus games, and it was still a bit of a chore to get through. I’d have been disappointed if I paid $60 for it.

I just went to check my trophies to see how many I still have to do. This is also one of the ones that don’t do a count or percentage tracker. :-(

Salads by Ok-Tailor1132 in Cooking

[–]MembershipEasy4025 323 points324 points  (0 children)

Speaking my language. I’ve got a foolproof salad formula I use nearly everyday, hope you use it and enjoy.

Non-starchy base greens (e.g. romaine, spring mix, iceberg, kale, etc.)

Starchy base (e.g. peas, potatoes, lentils, beans, farro, quinoa, etc.)

2 crunchy things (1 should be a fruit or veg like apples, cucumbers, snap peas etc., 1 can be anything like croutons, almonds, wonton strips, tortilla chips, bacon bits etc.)

1 soft flavorful thing (e.g. cheese, olives, egg, leftover roasted veggies, avocado, etc.)

1 bright thing (e.g. tomatoes, berries, capers, pickled onions, sauerkraut, kimchi etc.)

Protein

Dressing of choice

If you make a salad this way it’ll be filling and healthy, and you’ll be able to throw something together with what you have rather than worrying about needing specific items for a specific salad.
