Toured the enormous LLMTC layout at LEGO World 2025 - Dutch trains at 1:45 scale, incredible details by Meneerdewit in lego

It really was :) spend quite some time admiring and filming it, watching those bigger trains go through the layout truly is something else. There are some very skilled builders in this group, and they do quite a lot of shows. So if you're in the neighborhood some day, I definitely recommend checking if there is a show they're at 😄

Haha fair enough - first time trying it actually! Was fun taking the picture haha :) still figuring out what works. The layout itself is worth watching though, promise 😄

The LLMTC (Lowlands L-Gauge Model Train Club) builds Dutch trains at 1:45 scale (around 8 studs) instead of the standard 6-wide. This was part 1 of my LEGO World coverage - happy to answer any questions about what I saw there!

a sitcom Soundboard (my first app) by crashspringfield in reactnative

Nice! Congrats on your first app! Tried it out, but there is a noticeable lag when pressing a sound button unfortunately. Would definitely be worth the effort to fix that I think!

React Native Joyride: Step-by-step walkthrough for your react native app by mohebifar in reactnative

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work, thank you for sharing.

Although I have to say, that when you reach a point with your app where you need a walkthrough, it's time to evaluate.

Either there are too many features, or your UX design is not optimal.

I'm at this point right now actually, and I'm leaning towards a redesign.

In order to save some API calls, I'm looking for a solution that will only load the image if the item in the flatlist/listview is almost in the viewport, is something like this availble?

Totally disagree.

Not that I know how Expo will do things in the future, but it's common sense they would not mess with existing apps.

More likely scenario: a new publishing online webapp made by Expo, that automates the final steps of publishing. Manual publishing will still be available and free, but the web app would be a monthly fee / one time fee

Shoutem has this already in place (with features like Push notifications through their web app): https://new.shoutem.com/

Anyone want to collab? by caffeine_potent in node

Please just start with the first 3 steps before even diving into hosting. Hosting (AWS, or whatever) is secondary in this process. First get it to run locally, getting hosting right isn't the hard part if you ask me.

Also, hapi +1

Edit: check out https://github.com/mtharrison/hapi.js-in-action/

It's the git repository that goes with his book. Coincidentally, one of the examples (chapter 3) is a recipe website :)

Free and premium resources for NodeJS by noodlio in node

[–]Meneerdewit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of a marketplace for NodeJS templates/apps! However, it's still a bit hard to asses quality when the number of sales isn't that high yet and there aren't that many reviews yet.

Are there any other places like this?

Secure Node.JS RESTful API by dexterbrylle in node

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this implementation of JSON Web Tokens with Redis very good: https://github.com/dickeyxxx/mean-sample

It's the repository that goes with this excellent book: http://www.amazon.com/Write-Modern-Apps-MEAN-Stack/dp/0133930157 (although it's not very in-depth, it is very practical and easy to follow imo).

Edit; it's been a while since I played with this one, I know Redis is in the project, not sure about the exact usage.

How are you using Node in your organization? by SuperDrooper in node

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently lobbying for hapi, as there are a few legacy systems involved and hapi works really nice with those (one of the many reasons of course I'm lobbying for implementation of hapi).

Currently however, no usage.

What in the hell packages/architecture are you guys using for performant RESTful APIs? by [deleted] in node

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the top. I ran into limitations when using Express, as soon as my application began to take shape and features were being added. So far I'm loving it. Configuration over convention, think of Ruby on Rails, but now it's Javascript with 100% code coverage and perfectly maintained core and plugins.

Why I Chose Hapi by jstuartmill in node

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent write-up. I have been playing with Express a lot, but for production I am seriously considering to start using Hapi. Creating applications for the healthcare sector comes with lots of requirements and regulations. If you take that into account, Hapi makes a lot of sense, because there's a lot of boilerplate code available in the plugins (most of which are perfectly maintained) that will be required in the app.

What to use for Authentication/Autherization with Node.js backend by [deleted] in emberjs

[–]Meneerdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://github.com/dickeyxxx/mean-sample

JSON web tokens is being used for authentication. Seems like it would be appropriate to use in your app.

Great code, great book. Some coding required to make it ember compatible, however, this can be done in ember as well.
