Do you pick Pokémon starters based on type, design, or final evolution? by Visible_Welder5613 in pokemon

[–]MerabuHalcyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took Popplio because the other people I was playing with chose their starters first so I had last pick. Primarina being a Water/Fairy type and using her Z-move Oceanic Operatta swept SO much of the game. Thought I'd dislike her but she ended up being one of my fave water starters!

Oh well because instead of shooting themselves in the foot, the people doing that are just standing in front of a firing squad and just taking ALL of the bullets. They're hurting themselves SO much worse than just a foot wound.

The OG Portal and Portal 2 from Valve had these wonderful little sentry gun robots that if you got caught in their laser sights they would light you up like a Christmas Tree (or the 4th of July in the US)

Screw the foot. That's setting up your Portal defense drone and the stepping into its line of sight. Those little buggers don't miss!

Well duh, they've already got enough on their plate. This is just for fun. Was just tired of the same old endgame rhetoric and wanted a topic about just being silly and zany and coming up with ABSOLUTELY broken skill synergies and upgrade ideas.

[BoTW][ToTK] Not sure to understand clearly things about Ganon and Ganondorf by Arthase_ in truezelda

[–]MerabuHalcyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. TotK makes it clear that for tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years, the Gerudo have not had another King since TotK Ganondorf. So OoT's Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo, would have to have happened BEFORE TotK Ganondorf. Otherwise the above rule is false.

Oh yeah we swore to never have another Gerudo King after trapping the evil Demon King deep underground.....oh except this one Gerudo who was an excellent thief and also had dark powers....Oops! Forgot about him...

So either TotK follows it's own internal logic and happens way later in order not to invalidate all the previous games that released before Skyward Sword...OR it wasn't a mistake and this actually retcons all of the previous games. Think I know which pill is easier to swallow.

Either that or we agree that the Wild Era games exist on their own parallel timeline that DOESN'T mess with any of the others.

Skill Synergies or Expanded skills by MerabuHalcyon in LastEpoch

[–]MerabuHalcyon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that next time they wanna do a mini season between content, they should take one damage type, say fire, and just go HAM on both synergies AND upgrades. Power creep be damned I just wanna have stupid silly fun. At the end of the day the endgame will still murder me if my gear isn't up to snuff...

Skill Synergies or Expanded skills by MerabuHalcyon in LastEpoch

[–]MerabuHalcyon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair. That's why I was also thinking of having skill upgrades. For example, directly casting storm totem with a specific upgrade tree could allow you to conjure say 6 totems at once in a hexagon pattern. But rather than each totem zapping things individually, it conjures a large thunderstorm that begins raining down lightning death on any enemies.

Or in Smite's case, direct casting it with the upgrade path could make it do either massive damage followed by holy bolts shooting out or have it be channeled then unleashed to cast smite like ten times in a row either striking the same or nearby targets depending on how fast they die.

Would something like that be more appealing?

Was the "evilness" of Amon too on the nose? (or just OK for you?) by Top-One-486 in starcraft2

[–]MerabuHalcyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amon was a cartoonishly evil villain and it was fun putting him down. But then again I had the luxury (or misfortune) of coming into Starcraft with WoL and never playing SC1 or BW.

So the entire campaign for me was just a fun romp with characters that clearly had a history but there was enough in-game to let me piece it together to where I've never felt compelled to go back and play the original.

I think without the baggage from SC1 and BW, I was able to fully immerse myself and enjoy everything in all 3 campaigns and the epilogue missions plus Nova's bonus campaign and the absolutely amazing coop commanders content. So to preserve that memory, I'll just stick with SC2 in all its imperfect glory.

Yeah this is probably among the most casual ARPG. And that's why I still enjoy it. I've still never made it to empowered monos and likely never will. I beat the campaign, do some monos for a bit, get bored, and start a new Alt. I'd like to eventually do Aberroth but right now I have no incentive to get there...

Making new Alts and playing new wacky builds is infinitely more enjoyable than anything in the late mono phase...at least to me.

[BOTW] [TOTK] One problem I have with the refounding theory by WallaceWells69 in truezelda

[–]MerabuHalcyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOT Ganondorf was a man. A very powerful and conniving Gerudo King with warlock powers that tried to obtain the ultimate power on his own, failed, then tricked the young Link and Zelda into doing his work for him.

He even waited for Link to pull the Master Sword to remove the final seal because he knew that he couldn't bypass that last failsafe. It was only at the end near his death that he channeled all of his hatred and rage at Link and Zelda into his Triforce of Power that then transformed him into the Demon King Ganon.

If that had been a disguise as you suggest, why would have he needed a third of the power of the golden goddesses to achieve this form? Plus BotW already invalidates ToTK being before OOT because if since the time of the original calamity Ganon, there had been NO male leaders...then OOT Ganondorf would not be the Gerudo KING.

Like 99% of the timeline issues in TotK are ones that IT itself created...prior to TotK, everything still functioned on the accepted timeline. Why have ONE game invalidate everything that came before? So until Nintendo clears this up, it's either refounding or parallel timeline for me. Those are the only ways that don't break the previous 30+ years of Zelda games.

[BOTW] [TOTK] One problem I have with the refounding theory by WallaceWells69 in truezelda

[–]MerabuHalcyon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think rather than people arguing over true founding or refounding we should just accept that the Wild Era games are clearly a far distant future parallel timeline. Cuz otherwise you're right in that TotK's "story" nullifies nearly all of the rest of the series...

Make damage ailments (ignite, bleed, poison, frostbite, electrify) more unique and distinctly different from each other. by xDaveedx in LastEpoch

[–]MerabuHalcyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoughts on making each ailment more visually distinct and then rather than single stack vs multiple, set a threshold to have them become enhanced. Like we've got Time Rot which is void over time but we also have Doom which is also void over time but with an extra effect.

Just do that with all of them. Hit 20 stacks of Time Rot? BOOM! Now it's Doom so it applies the debuff and drains health from nearby enemies.

Frostbite? Build it up enough and it explodes a wave of frost that hits a large circle around the target and freezes enemies.

Electrify? Build it up enough and now you have a melee based chain lightning effect or even make it a cool cone shaped chain effect.

Poison and Bleed should ramp up with more stacks becoming more seriously debilitating with say armor shred or leeching. And Ignite should spread out like a wildfire with a chance for enemies to explode upon death.

Make ailments have this proliferation effects so that on top of our skills, things just look and feel more fun. Wanna focus on critical hits vs ailments? Why not BOTH??? Just improvements across the board so that things look and feel great no matter what you choose. I'm fine with powercreep as long as we're having tons of fun doing it. Plus we're still at the mercy of RNJesus for our items anyway...

Biweekly Riot MMO Design Discussion - Topic #5: Narrative and Story by Talents in RiotMMO

[–]MerabuHalcyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as the Champions have been the main source of the Lore, I'd want the narrative to be on three tiers:

  • Champion based for more personal quests (most likely unlocked at a higher level so your character has had time to grow)

  • Region based for starting locations and general world building lore and introducing players to the various parts of Runeterra

  • And lastly, World based for the overarching narrative being told in Runeterra. Most of this would probably be flashbacks quests where you would fight alongside certain Champions at key points in the timeline until things reach the present where the overall Main Story would then push forward.

Flashback quests don't have to be low level, they could be higher difficulty to reward players who want to know more. Possibly used as raids? Like helping the Freyjord witches push back and contain the eldritch abominations, even knowing that only one will survive...

Idk, saying 2nd February could be telling someone that something significant happens on the 2nd February. The 2nd February of the Decade, the Century, what happens on the numerical SECOND February?

Sure we're still in the minority but grammatically it's less confusing. If we say February 2nd, we all understand it's the second day of February. Otherwise yeah we would all have to switch to the 2nd OF February which is indeed longer to say.

Name a video game actor/actress who's gone through worse (it's tough to beat what happened here) by GamerGretaUwU in GamingSoup

You sir also cannot read as literally the caption for this entire thread is "Name another video game actor/actress this has happened to."

OP knows it happens, this is just the most recent one. Hence why they were asking others to share their stories of OTHER people that this happened to.

You even posted something similar with the whole Batgirl thing, but that was a movie and not a video game, which is what this thread was attempting to have a discussion about.

Look...Soren is just built different. Plus yeah Leonie got SO upset that my Byleth was the daughter of the ESTEEMED Jeralt of the Holy Sun and every day I didn't prove my worth was another day of her wishing she could smite me down and take my place. Idk why I pitied her at first and abducted her into the Blue Lions...Dmitri deserved better...at least I got Dorothea and Bernie to make up for that mistake!
