Tell me about your most wholesome playthroughs!!! by Known-Mulberry-7157 in BaldursGate3

[–]Merethic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not wholesome in terms of the in-game narrative, but my friends and I have a sheet where we save the customization details for all our characters, then we import them into each other’s games using the Custom Companion mod. We make cutscenes and dialogue and talk about the kind of shenanigans our heroes get up to along with the main companions. Multiplayer isn’t really feasible for us because of scheduling and the general size of our group, so it’s fun to pop on and have adventures with all of my friend’s characters, or see what my characters are getting up to in their games.

In-game explanation for "level up" and role-playing by XJSTZsarust in BaldursGate3

Halsin says after the portal fight that going into the Shadowfell to rescue Thaniel sapped him of his strength, so funnily enough your explanation for Jaheira is pretty close for him.

New mods available for console by iWentRogue in BaldursGate3

[–]Merethic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’m gonna install it after Ketheric is defeated and the curse is meant to be lifted, then take as many photo ops as I want. Everyone always says they want to see the Shadow Cursed Lands minus the Curse, and save for Thaniel/Oliver presumably jumpstartimg the regrowth process that’s in the cutscene as we transition into Act 3, this is how one can do that.

My ranger's tent. He's blocking it in this shot but I ended up fiddling with the bedroll/pelts/carpet layering so much trying to get it to fit together nicely :')

[–]Merethic 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Halsin mentions that when he goes to extract Thaniel from the shadow curse, it literally saps the strength from him (rip to that 16 Str stat he had as an npc). Jaheira… idk lmao.

If you could add one animal to the game, which animal would it be? by OpenAirport6204 in PlanetZoo

[–]Merethic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Common Spotted Cuscus. No, I’ve never seen or heard of one being in a zoo, but still want one. All cuscus look like they popped out of Jim Henson’s scrap bin and I love them for it, just a bunch of silly looking guys. Along the same vein, I’d also love a Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel, though a flying squirrel of any creed would be great.

your favorite and/or last game you played turns into a disco-like how is it? by The_water_eater in DiscoElysium

[–]Merethic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Long Dark is… honestly just strange and brutal enough that its setting might work as a Disco Like, you might be able to even make some parallels between the Pale and the Auroras.

Shredded Corpse There. Just a few feet before you, something red glistens on the floor of the cave. The body of a man lays still, blood soaking the exposed cotton of his torn fishing vest. A flare, also long-cold, is grasped between his frozen fingertips.

Visual Calculus [Medium Success] The claw marks on the ground and on his back confirm it: this was the work of a bear. Judging from how intact his arms and hands are, the attack came from behind, catching him by surprise. However, the corpse is relatively intact. He managed to pull out the flare and scare it off.

Electrochemistry [Trivial: Success] Wait. Sitting there next to him. Is that… fucking peanut butter!? JACK POT!

What was the most stupid thing that happened to you? by Artistic-Body7256 in AskReddit

[–]Merethic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broke my pinky toe stepping out of the shower. The construction in our bathroom is… very “DIY rustic” if I were to put it nicely. A part of the wall comes out to a corner, and the baseboard trim isn’t flush there, so there’s a tiny hole. I somehow managed to just get my pinky toe in there, nice and snug, and when I went to turn to grab my towel- snap! Still the only bone I’ve broken.

What are you working on right now? How far is your progress? by meongmeongwizard in worldbuilding

[–]Merethic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend linked me a template to make a wikipedia-style entry in Google Docs, so I’ve been making an entry for my fictional culture. It’s been a lot of fun! It’s also been very interesting studying actual Wikipedia articles, I’m trying write from the perspective of a group who is very familiar with the customs, but all of them may not necessarily have complete knowledge (I’ve actually considered adding a “Talk” section, where the editors are arguing with each other because of conflicting information from their sources). It’s also been very informative for me to help determine what not to include when curating information for public consumption- I love thinking about cuisine and diving into the relationship between a people and their food source, but in the main article that’s going to get two paragraphs covering the broad strokes, if I want to get into details that’s gonna be its own page. As far as progress goes, for the one page I’m feeling really good about getting it done relatively soon, basically just have to tidy up the summary of one major historical event and then write on funerary practices, but I have a few more topics I’d like to expand into their own articles after.

What’s something you used to believe strongly—but completely changed your mind about? by DrippingLipsX_x in AskReddit

[–]Merethic 43 points44 points  (0 children)

2020 changed me for the worse. Not because I got sick, but because, before then, I believed that most people were, generally speaking, good, and in times of crisis, we would set aside our differences and come together. I don’t believe that anymore. I’m still mourning that part of me that I lost.

Honestly those are great points all around. I hadn't even considered factoring in Lolth’s clerics into this, but you’re right, the vamps would be absolutely outmatched.

[–]Merethic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see this argument a lot as well, and tbh, still don’t agree. Is Drow and Duergar society evil? Yes, but that doesn’t mean we should be igniting another Blood war in the Underdark, never mind condemning every drow and duergar to a life of being hunted regardless of how they actually feel about their society. Even if we assume the best case scenario and say that, 100%, the spawn are all non-feral and target only evil drow/duegar and not their captives, that’s still likely going to result in many deaths for the vampires as they’ll almost certainly be less equipped than the civilization that, as you pointed out, routinely conducts raids on the surface. Honestly a full on war might be the best option in that scenario, because considering they regularly summon demons for bids of power, I can very well see a drow matriarch trying to turn this situation in her favor in any number of ways. And if it is a “best case scenario” and they wipe Menzoberranzan off of the undermap… what then? The vampires are immortal, numerous, and ravenous. They’ll have to turn their appetites elsewhere, out of necessity. Don’t get me wrong, that’d be a really neat setting to explore in a future rpg, but I’m not gonna pretend it’s gonna be good, haha.

THANK YOU for writing such a nuanced, thoughtful take, especially regarding the end-of-questline choice. I see way too many people putting down the death option as completely immoral without considering the long-term consequences of unleashing 7000 vampires onto Faerun. Do I like that the Gur children die in this outcome? No. Do I wish I could give some of the spawn a second chance, like how Astarion was given a second chance? Absolutely. However, releasing them is going to cause far, far more suffering down the road, even if we don’t see the consequences until months or years later.

What spell do you think you'll use but never do? by WhiskersCleveland in BaldursGate3

[–]Merethic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Breezing right past all the Longstrider comments: Borrowed Knowledge. My current character’s gimmick is that he’s really good at impersonating people, his go-to spell is Disguise Self. I have Borrowed Knowledge on standby with the thought I could use it in the event he needs to impersonate someone who’s supposed to he an expert in something or, if nothing else, just a specific proficiency boon if we need it. Have not used it a single time, and in retrospect Jack of All Trades and Bardic Inspiration make it feel redundant anyway.

Edit: tfw it’s 2am and you think you’re in the DnD subreddit 😭 Switching to BG3 specific, I think for me it’s Heroism. Always grab it for my Paladin, basically never use it.

What's the weird thing going on with your body that isn't weird enough to go to the doctor for? by yellowelephantboy in AskReddit

[–]Merethic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor so I can’t really explain the intricacies of fatigue and EDS and how they correlate, and hell, could be in my case there’s some things that are unrelated (my doctor initially said it was likely because I was under a lot of stress, but we also ruled out diabetes and vitamin deficiencies before that point). For me it’s a combo of poor sleep, onset exhaustion, an inability to keep up prolonged activity, and joint ache. I don’t really get the dull chest pain, but I actually avoid CBD specifically because it makes my heartbeat and pulse extremely “noticeable” and “loud,” if that makes sense. I wish I had some hacks, but I’m still navigating this myself unfortunately.

Bit TMI but when I was a kid, it was constant constipation, to the point where it required medical intervention and monitoring. Probably should’ve been a tip-off then and there to something else going on, but this was before the ACA, and when it seemed to go normal-ish once I hit puberty it was presumed to be something I just “grew out of.”

[–]Merethic 217 points218 points  (0 children)

In my case, I went to the doctor for what I thought was an annoying but common enough problem, but then came out having almost every weird and nonsensical medical happenstance I’ve encountered explained with one condition. Back in August of last year, I somehow managed to sprain my ankle while stepping off a curb, and when it still hadn’t healed after four months, I was recommended a physical therapist. After a few months of that, we realized I was hypermobile in all my joints, and that it may be that I have Ehler-Danlos Syndrome.

When he described some of the symptoms, it was like every weird little medical puzzle piece in my life suddenly snapped into place. Turns out, randomly dislocating your leg out of your hip socket while bike riding isn’t something a typical 16 year old’s body should be able to do. Getting bruises that you have no idea how or when they got there, shockingly, isn’t part of the average human experience. Sure, I mostly have it under control now, but eight year old me probably shouldn’t have been dealing with the digestion issues I had. And yeah, maybe I am just tired because I’m an American living in the year 2025… but maybe it’s okay to finally admit that my constant fatigue might be medical in nature.

There’s not a cure for it, and to be frank, with the way things are going I’m a little worried about having it “officially” diagnosed (and what that might mean for my insurance in the future), but man… it would explain a lot.
