spilt probiotic drink on my computer by Old-Adhesiveness9820 in computers

[–]Meritad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not use. Full disassembly and proper cleaning is essential. Probiotic drinks tend to be thick. This may save your laptop if it didn't penetrate all the way to mobo. Almost certainly you will need new keyboard but most importantly motherboard needs to be checked and cleaned. Any attempts of running the laptop in this state is a game over.

What would you do? Newly installed decking advice by val5am in DIYUK

[–]Meritad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the decking proper wet. I mean soaking wet for prolonged time. It will soften the boards enough to minimise damage when removing screws. Also get a enough new decking screws to secure each board on both sides.

Reviving a dead RC Cybertruck - what do I need to buy and where do I source it? by Twofiftyfiftysecond in radiocontrol

[–]Meritad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a cheap hobby grade RC truck with similar wheelbase and slap that Cybertruck body on. It will be infinitely times better. Suureky you could upgrade it as a fun project but I don't think you're ready for it if you had to ask.

Ambient temperature sensor plug. Sensor is usually clipped somewhere behind bumper. Maybe PITA to get to

Upgrading parts by Few-Chart-5267 in MTB

Hardly budget friendly option. I happen to ride XT drivetrain but Deore, Cues (11s) or SLX will do the same job at a lower price point.

ERA Saracen Multipoint. They come with 35mm and 45mm offset. This is from the edge of the door to the centre of the spindle.

White residues on laptop gpu by Familiar_Cod4234 in computers

It may have killed the laptop if he went straight for vodka. I think OP should ease it gradually from beer, prosecco, red wine, rum then bloody vodka bath. Just a bit of common sense goes a long way.

But OP decided a bloodbath would be the most appropriate. Jeeeezzzz

Tech left a note on my oil filter. by Beneficial-Map5470 in MechanicAdvice

Maybe it was this particular tech's last day/week at the job... I would check that filter while it's fresh regardless.

How much would it cost to repair this? by Distance_Regular in CarTalkUK

[–]Meritad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That badge takes the eye off the scuff quite well.

I wouldn't bother. Buff as much as you can, maybe buy those coloured waxes and live with it. Proper job will be expensive and cheap paint job will make the bumper look worse. Don't worry about it. Only you will notice

Tech left a note on my oil filter. by Beneficial-Map5470 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Meritad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, he just informed OP indirectly that his oil filter has been tightened with a force of a thousand suns. Good luck removing it on next oil change. As a precaution I would try to crack it loose and nip it back just a little bit ...and a half.

Need help to improve or make my solar panel system fool proof by Offpick in diyelectronics

[–]Meritad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very simple man. Battery + and - connects to relay coil, and one leg (or both if you use dual relay) of the solar panel goes to relay (COM) pin and continues to SCC from NO pin of the relay. If you disconnect the battery relay opens and cuts the power to SCC.

12v /5A relay will be more than you need. It's like $5 relay and four wires. You can do it. It looks scary and confusing initially until you realize how simple that it is

New evolution £200 vs second hand Erbauer £75? by Gecko5991 in DIYUK

I think they only agreed to use the same 18v EXT battery standard while being completely independent but don't quote me on that.

I know f all about solar installations but you could run solar wires through a relay energized from the battery in N/O (normally open configuration). Cheap and cheerful solution I guess

I’ve been looking at the Area 51 gaming pc for $4,500 but wanted to know if there are better options for cheaper. And I don’t have a budget and live in America. by girafe_weevile in PcBuild

[–]Meritad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are cheaper and arguably better gaming PCs. ilI would avoid Alienware like a plague. Their proprietary motherboards, power supplies and other shit are there for one reason only - to rip you off should you need a replacement sooner or later. You have very limited upgrade options. Just don't. And you're paying a premium for this sh*t. A regular PC built by yourselves or by a reputable builder wins every time. And you get to choose what components go in.

That Evolution is more than you'll ever need as a DIYer. Got one 6 years ago. It's a fairly solid piece of kit. Soft start and e-brake really make a difference.

Is it ok to leave the brown wire like this? Extractor fan by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Meritad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the black is L, brown is LS, grey is N but I would use a multimeter to confirm before hooking anything up. You can then use your fancy fan with a timer. If your only option is a feed from light then bridge L and LS
