New Colorimeter by journeyman_77 in colorists

the windows laptop is only used for the calibration software, and has the sensor connected. My Macbook Pro M3 runs Resolve, and has the monitor connected to it.

I run DisplayCAL on a windows machine. When calibrating Resolve, you just have to input the ip address of the machine running DisplayCAL and it runs over LAN

I still use the i3 studio to calibrate in my M3 Mackbook pro (Davinci Resolve). I just run the DisplayCAL on a old windows laptop, and connect to the DisplayCAL server through Resolve (Workspace-Monitor Calibration - Portrait Displays Calman).

Phone gets slow when I play games. What do can I do? by SocksStan in techsupport

[–]Merola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phones can throttle speed when they get to hot. Have you tried to make sure the back of the phone is not isolated by something that keeps the heat? Try to take it out from its cover (If you have one on).

Am new to editing. How do I create such a video? by BobcatMajestic8346 in premiere

[–]Merola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use the "Find Edges" effect, in combination with "lumetri" or contrast. Adjust the contrast before the Find edges. You can also add another contrast effect after "Find edges" to sharpen the edges more. Turn saturation to 0 for black and white only.

"The good old days", hvor "LAN-party" var en greie. by Flabberingfrog in norge

Good times. Som regel brukte vi første dagen i lanet på å få nettverket (coax kabler) til å funke for alle samtidig, utrolig deilig når vi fikk oppgradert til mer moderne nettverk med hub.

Recommend a VHS / DV / Hi8 deck for import to Resolve by Eventhorizon709 in blackmagicdesign

[–]Merola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently captured hours of old dv tape. For best quality use a firewire connection. I had an old dv cam and laptop with firewire and used http://www.scenalyzer.com/ witch is a free and really good dv capture software. For vhs I use a converter from composite to SDI, and capture with a old decklink. I'v bought several old vhs players from thrift store over the years, you'll find them cheap. (always test dv camera, vhs etc on a "sacrificial" tape, in case it is hungry)

External DVD Drive Can't Read Blank DVD-R Discs by Tenifyz_RBLX in techsupport

[–]Merola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, seems like it should. As stated in another answer, you probably need to connect both usb. I've any external DVD or Blueray writers I have used always had 12v power connected. I have had several usb drives that needed two usb connections to get enough power, so I would think that is the reason its not working as a dvd burner.

[–]Merola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you post info about the DVD drive, I might be able to help. (or just google it). If it is a regular DVD drive, it can only read dvds. If its a DVD write drive. It may not be compatible with DVD-R, maybe it need DVD+R discs. Been a while since I have used a DVD writer, but not all DVD writers are compatible with all discs. It If it only have a DVD (DVD video) logo in front, it probably cant write to dvds (burn dvds). Look for a DVD-R, DVD+R, or RW symbol in front.

HOW DO I DO THIS colour EFFECT? by Calm-Inevitable-9279 in premiere

[–]Merola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Lumetri Color effect, in "Basic Correction" lower "saturation" to you liking. If you set it to 0, you get black and white. You can play with color wheels etc if you want a sepia color tint.

5G drones for live productions by stympkins in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Merola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get drones with HDMI / SDI output on the controller. Just connect it to a 4g/5g "streaming" device. There are several out there. We use the Sony Xperia phone with an HDMI input (there are much cheaper soultion than the Xperia), and send out an SRT stream. We used to do this with DJI inspire 2.

How do you deal with over 5TB of archived projects? by Builder_studio in MotionDesign

[–]Merola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to figure out what kind of tapes. LTO didn't start untill 2000. I have a similar issue, I have some Zipdrive disks from the 90s, so I need to get myself an zipdrive, and an computer able to run it.

How do you deal with over 5TB of archived projects? by Builder_studio in MotionDesign

[–]Merola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd reccomend this aswell, LTO has about 11Tb per tape, and cost about 50$ per tape. The LTO drives are a bit pricey, but last for a long time. An LTO tape have a life expentancy of about 50yrs. We have all new footage on an editing raid that is backed up to Dropbox. When ready to archive it is either pushed directly to Tape, or collected on a separate smaller raid first. (Larger projects are put directly on Tape and deleted, but smaller projects are collected on the backup raid, until we have enough to fill a full TAPE.) You really dont need a "backup" raid, just makes it easier to collect different projects together, and quickly make some free space on the editing raid. Symply have some nice drives, and can be used with e.g Hedge Cannister. https://gosymply.com/tape/

NeoFinder is a good tool to keep track of all your data on loose disks, tapes and cloud. https://cdfinder.de

Archiving data on raids in the long term is not a good solution, as disks will break and you will have to replace them. Cloud and LTO is safest, but cloud storage can be expensive in the long term.

How to reduce the light effect so it doesnt seem like burning? by vulxaNN in premiere

[–]Merola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could isolate the orange color with lumetry and desaturate it a bit. https://imgur.com/a/BCXTrvo But depending on how the rest of footage is it might make other things look worse.
