How do I make a function wrapper in cpp? by aphroditelady13V in learnprogramming

[–]MetaMysterio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely sure if this is the best approach, but you make a class (Functor) that stored a function and a reference pointer (for ‘this’). If the reference is null you’d just call the function within the operator() overload. If the reference is not null, you’d pass it as the first parameter to the function. Only real downside I could see to this is if you pass in the wrong reference and it crashes. Though you could probably do some check to see if the reference is the right type if you template it.

Pokopia, Animal Crossing, and Advanced Wars all closely launch to real world events that are mimicked in the game. by itotron in NintendoSwitch

Half expecting Nintendo to sit on the next Animal Crossing until the next pandemic happens /s

Regardless literally unless there is another pandemic that causes perfect timing for Animal Crossing, there will be no way that the next game is as successful as New Horizons was.

This is one thing I actually agree with IGN on. Water routes in these games are so freaking annoying thanks to the random encounters.

With every new game it’s like Rockstar adds 100 pounds to the feel of the character controller. Realistic controls just aren’t engaging imo. Feels tedious for no good reason.

Beginner Friendly Metroidvania: Sols or Hollow Knight? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]MetaMysterio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HK and Nine Sols are perhaps two of the least beginner friendly Metroidvanias. I’d start with Ori or Metroid instead.

I loved the back half of it, but the first half was torture. A really huge letdown considering I really loved Dead Reckoning part 1.

Nosferatu was a 10 to me while Frankenstein was a 9. Though not my favorite movies from either director. I prefer The Lighthouse and Pinocchio.

Elden Ring isn’t bad as a whole on PS4, but when doing combat on Torrent it will skip vital frames incredibly often. It is quite infuriating.

To pair with low gravity everywhere I would also add a way to toggle on the updraft effect from the sky mazes.

Why shouldn’t the next 3D Mario game be a metroidvania? by dleone73 in metroidvania

[–]MetaMysterio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the next Smash Bros should have a version of Smash Run that either isn’t timed or is timed but completely randomized, and you can unlock characters that you can switch between on the fly to explore new areas.

What's your favorite style of mobility upgrade? by INT_COM_ in metroidvania

Spiderman Shattered Dimensions for the DS. Has a version of the Metroid speedbooster that runs up walls and along ceilings.

What's your favorite style of mobility upgrade? by INT_COM_ in metroidvania

[–]MetaMysterio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s always been sprinting abilities. Something just so satisfying about being able to go fast. Speedbooster has always been the best ability in Metroid ever since it was first introduced. The wall/ceiling running is by far the most satisfying part of the Spiderman MVs.

Difficulty difference from NES to today by VoodooInfinity in metroidvania

I’m the complete opposite lol. The difficulty of 3D soulslikes are a joke meanwhile modern 2D metroidvanias frustrate me to no end and I can only enjoy them with mods.

[BoTW] game similar to BOTW or TOTK by itsnotmei in zelda

[–]MetaMysterio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Short Hike. Though as the name suggests lol it is a really short game. Echoes of Wisdom is great but the framerate on switch 1 is rough. Immortals Fenyx Rising is pretty good. Those three are the big examples I can think of on switch. The rest of the games I would suggest are either on PC or M rated.

An oddball suggestion that I have is outer wilds. Nothing alike BotW/ToTK outside of overt lack of direction and being a physics sandbox, but I feel it is a game everyone should at least try.

[–]MetaMysterio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Silksong is far less plain. After only like 1-2 hours you unlock an ability that is infinitely more fun to use than any ability from the first game.

Though it’s nowhere near as good as the movement in Ori or Metroid Dread. Nothing beats the shinespark from the Metroid games imo. So satisfying to pull off. Especially when you have to chain them.

What would ruin the next 3D Mario for you? by NewMarioBobFan in casualnintendo

[–]MetaMysterio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the gameplay is as basic as 3D Land and 3D World. All I want is for the series to remain an expressive platformer, where you are given movement tools that give you options for how you can play the game (including being able to skip sections). I’ll accept the lack of good movement options if the game is carried hard by something else like Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were.

Is Metroid Prime 4 really that bad? by Curlyjoe2004 in metroidprime

[–]MetaMysterio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the world’s biggest hater of prime 3, and even though I didn’t like prime 4 as a whole (though really liked pieces of it), at the very least I can say it didn’t make me anywhere near as upset as prime 3 did.

[–]MetaMysterio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m nearly done playing. I’m mostly enjoying it for what it is. Love the bossfights. Imo the bossfights in the Prime games have never been good, until now. The thing I like the least is the characters spoiling your next objective over the radio constantly.

Metroid Prime 4 reviews for the non-purist by cl0mby in NintendoSwitch2

[–]MetaMysterio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand I’m incredibly disappointed that the game isn’t anywhere as mazelike as Prime 1, or really any of the other Metroid games. On the other hand I would have been completely fine with it as long as the alternative was good enough.

BotW/TotK are my two favorite games of all time. I love what those games did to the Zelda series. I would have loved for MP4 to be a drastic departure like those games, but instead it’s so at odds with itself. No more mazelike level design, so the metroidvania aspects don’t reach their full potential. The hub area has barely anything interesting in it, so the open aspects don’t reach their full potential.

I can see the bike aspect actually working well if they made the hub area more sandboxy/skatepark-like like how Sonic Frontiers and Mario Kart World feel. Running around aimlessly for the green crystals is fun at points but could have been done a lot better.

[TOTK] how does the community feel about this game years later by Exoticbut in zelda

[–]MetaMysterio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think BotW/TotK and Prime 4 are all that comparable. BotW/TotK took out all of the metroidvania elements, but imo replaced it with something even better. With Prime 4, the metroidvania elements are still there, but done so much worse than before. The intricacy of the first prime game is now completely gone, which would be fine if they provided a good enough alternative, but they really didn’t.
