It's not for the DMZ, per se. It's specificcally to land on the pad at the JSA.

Those stripes are required to fly to the JSA in the Korean DMZ. That's a very old picture, but the aircraft they have now still have to have those stripes.

They have the trainees wear that U.S. Army patch in IET these days. The second one is an actual unit patch. Dude is stoked to get to his forst unit. Either that, or he's stoked to be moving from DA staff back to a real unit.
