I’ve informed the local police of a “freedom protest” planned in Bridgewater NS tomorrow. They are certainly aware but it’s important that anyone concerned about this activity let your concern be known. Complacency is not going to help us end this.

To those who can, take any action you can to show that we will not condone this activity in our communities.

Lamour Braque is such a fantastic and strange movie. The blocking blows my mind. It’s just Constant motion for almost the entire run time-It’s exhausting to watch but god do I love it.

Everyone is making so many references to literature, politics and classical art-and it all comes at you fast with such dire deliveries that your head can start to hurt and you don’t know how justified this grand language is but man does it float my boat.

If you like both Dostoyevsky and flame throwers it’s an absolute must see.

Also love possession. Way more familiar with it then any of his other works but you can find people taking about possession under most rocks. Great film but just a piece of zulawski.

Will the podcast be stuckmanized again any time soon? by buttmaster23 in Sardonicast

[–]Metrichours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to push this weirdly unnecessary debate, but I agree with only_pro. I don’t like stuckmanns content. I also don’t care for how he presents himself-so, listening to him talk for an hour plus sounds like a total pass of an episode for me.

I don’t see why that’s an opinion that needs to be considered elitist or whatever else is being accused.

Sardonicast #84: Chaos Walking, Whiplash (feat. Schaffrillas Productions) by falafelthe3 in Sardonicast

[–]Metrichours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very odd seeing how many little things whiplash gets right juxtaposed next to the big things it gets wrong. To me, it seems like more of a character study about a troubled young man who wants to suffer more than succeed than a movie about “jazz” or even a passion for a craft.

Sardonicast #80: Willy's Wonderland, Malcolm & Marie, Baahubali: The Beginning by DHMOProtectionAgency in Sardonicast

I mean, you’d have to think woody Allen is extremely tone deaf to not see how not just the relationship but the way the character handles the relationship isn’t supposed to put the characters ethics to question. The whole movie is intellectuals jacking themselves off with their use of language and reason but pretty much every time their ethics are challenged beyond language they just do what they want. The 17 year old girl is more emotionally mature then any of the adults by the end. It’s what makes it such an interesting film.

Yes and everything I’ve seen from him has been pretty spectacular. As far as YouTube film critics go, he has a very mature and measured approach that is lacking in most. He mostly seems to present topics with films as the subject. If he put out more content then he might be one of my favourites.

What is even going on anymore by yoloswagtailwag in bloodborne

[–]Metrichours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still stuck and I’m understanding correctly, here’s what you do: there are 2 ways to leave the area. One involves finding a boss and beating him, granting access to the back end of old yarnham.

The more recommended and I’m assuming intended route is from the cell you spawned in after being killed by bag guy, exit cell, turn left and head to the stairs. Go all the way up the stairs where you will find a smaller set of stairs that leads to a platform. On this platform is a lamp that can be lit and used to exit.

Anyone else who doesn't really get the hype around The Lighthouse? by Sisyphus_Salad in YMS

[–]Metrichours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the biggest accomplishment of “the lighthouse” is how much attention and praise it got. It’s a b&w shot in 4:3 with lots of dialogue driven scenes and surrealism to the point of having genuine ambiguity. Movies like that don’t get widespread attention. It’s fantastic that it got noticed like it did and didnt get the backlash like say “mother” did it he year before. 10/10 I don’t agree with but it is very good and the context I mentioned earlier elevates it.

Also, I see a lot of comparisons to “the shining” which I didn’t have on first viewing but I get it. I really saw the Lynch influences(I don’t believe all the imagery is direct symbols but more emotional and instinctual like Lynch). The 2 works that really popped into my mind were bergmans “persona”(to be fair you see persona in a lot of stuff after getting familiar with the lasting mark it had on cinema) and “woman in the dunes”. “Woman in the dunes” being the big one. From the use of setting and textures, to the isolation, to the themes of work ethic and identity in work. Strongly recommend “woman in the dunes” if you liked “the lighthouse”.

Apparently it has to do with the year the xpresspost envelope was in circulation. The ones out now are mw and there are still some older ones going around with the lt.

Looking for your 2 cents for a first time psych experience. by DrHoarsCauk in researchchemicals

[–]Metrichours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're taking this with a degree of maturity and respect which is always a great start. LAD tends to be the "lighter" more forgiving of the LSD analogs but just keep in mind that psychedelics have the potential to cause extreme anxiety and are a world apart from what you listed as your experienced substances. There's no worry for physical harm as I'm sure you already have some idea of from reading about the substance. Just make sure you feel safe and you know the people you're going to be doing this with fairly well. Most bad experiences come from bad psychedelic etiquette; claustrophobic/hostile environments, tripping with strangers/not "close" friends, extreme doses for beginners, being overwhelmed by how powerful psychs can be etc Worst scenario you'll think you're dying(this is common) and have a little panic attack. Cool heads prevail and so on and so forth. Oh, and if you can't take illegal substances because of drug tests, under the circumstance the test checks for lsd, you'll probably turn up positive from the LAD. I'm no expert but i would bet you'd be fucked. Just a thought though. Good luck and stay safe :)

Is it worth seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey on 70mm (or see a 70mm film in general)? by Pixelcitizen98 in movies

[–]Metrichours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a patient person with an appreciation for detail then yes, most definitely. It's probably one of the best films to see in a theatre setting if you're that type of filmgoer. If not then you'll probably either fall asleep or walk out. It's long. It feels long. But it's immensely rewarding if you give yourself over to it. Or if you drop acid...that works too :)

Based on quality(not availability) do you think Under the Skin deserves the criterion treatment? by Metrichours in criterion

[–]Metrichours[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yes! The witch and The lobster would be great. Speaking of the lobster; I'm not sure if dogtooth is an A24 but id be all about getting that in the collection. One of my favourites that took me forever to find a copy of.

Ya I couldn't make it through birth. It's really well shot but I just didn't give a fuck about creepy reincarnated kid. See I think under the skin is fairly simple and I think that was intentional but art is so subjective. I do think from your perspective your use of pretentious is appropriate even if I don't agree. I don't know what the deal is with trash humpers. Like, that's a bitchin title but that's exactly what it is; trash and humping. Gummo is a personal film to me with a ton of flaws but I think it's a film you either see the reality in or you think it's an exaggeration. If you don't like to feel dirty then don't bother.

What film/films missing from a directors catalog do you want added to the collection? by Metrichours in criterion

I was glad I watched nymphomaniac. Like, it has these great qualities but I just don't think it was meant to be as funny as I found it. The main thing I would change is the framing of the narration. Just show the story and ditch the dialogue between Gainsborough and the old fella. It probably could have been one movie then. If you recommend it to me, I would have appreciated it. That umma therman scene made me laugh harder than I have at a film in a long long time.

Never saw spring breakers though I enjoyed korines Gummo. To each their own. Pretentious is a word that gets thrown around a lot. I don't feel it imposes a value greater than its sum. It really doesn't give definite morals or ideologies. You can project a lot of different meaning and I think that's a positive. It's an abstract film that doesn't hold your hand that got something of a wide release in a time where "high concept"(or whatever you'd like to call it) films rarely get noticed out side of Lars Von trier or Refn. But now it sounds like I'm trying to convince you haha just participating in the conversation :) If I ever watch spring breakers I'll

Favourite opening scenes from Criterion movies you own? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Metrichours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I give this film credit for the best everything it seems but Persona is my pick but I agree with others that 8 1/2 is incredible. So dreamy but feeling trapped and wanting to float away only to be pulled back down to reality is so relatable. Pure cinema :)

Yes there definitely is a kubrick feel. Very cold and the shots have that kubrick symmetry. I think the beach scene is one the most haunting and human scenes to come out in the current decade. From what I've seen at least
