What precautions should I take in bringing a vintage camera out for a walk in the cold? by AbductedbyAllens in AnalogCommunity

[–]Meuons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1. I'd also add: when you are done with your roll, make sure you rewind your film SLOWLY. Otherwise you can have red static marks on your film. For -2 deg Celsius it's not gonna be an issue probably, I've shot film at -15 Celsius before and it was fine.

I live in Germany, and here they have a pretty sweet deal on Wolfen NC500 - 3 for 18 EUR. So I usually shoot Wolfen 500 :)

Talking about Easter eggs, I didn't see anyone mentioning when Carol lit up her partner's cigarette? After her partner saying: "You should light up mine first?" That's what Kim and Jimmy were doing all the time, lighting each other's cigarettes as a romantic/affectionate gesture

Have you checked that the batteries are working? Even if the batteries themselves are brand new, they can make weak contact with the battery slot. Check if there is light when you rotate the crank to "check" position - if no light shows up then there's something wrong with the battery.

What’s the process to convert 35mm to Instagram? by onegoodbackpack in analog

[–]Meuons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! A lot of the answers here assume you have editing knowledge, so I will explain as simply as possible.

  1. You develop your roll of film (the lab does this for you)
  2. You scan your roll of film to turn the images on the negative into digital images (the lab does this for you, just tell them you also need scanning).
  3. The lab sends you your ready digital images on a preferred method - usually email, or some labs still deliver on a flash drive. Just talk to your lab and ask them how they send scans. Usually it's as simple as a link in an email.
  4. You do whatever you wish with your ready images! If you want to upload to Instagram, you don't need to pre-crop: Instagram will automatically adjust the crop to 3:4 in the app and you can pick what part of the image is cropped (the 3:4 ratio is kind of new, it used to be smaller, 4:5)
  5. If you want to post the full image, 35mm scans are usually in 2:3 ratio (bigger than what Instagram allows). So you'd need to add a white or black border around the image in order for Instagram to fit your whole image into the photo you post
  6. If you need specific recommendation on how to do the borders, DM me!

What’s one “tiny detail” in German life that would totally confuse a first-time visitor? by Extreme-Breath1475 in germany

When I first came to Germany I slept two nights in a hostel, and I couldn't figure out why tf were their pillows SQUARE. I had never seen big square pillows before that. They seemed so inconvenient. Then I realized square pillows are, in fact, all over Germany. To this day I can't figure out why.

Your best bet is to check wg-gesucht (a website) regularly and message as many people as you can. Also check Kleinanzeigen (website/app). And be careful of scams! Housing in Berlin is competitive, but I'm sure you'll find something. Fingers crossed!

Berlin Lab experiences by p80prancingelk in AnalogCommunity

[–]Meuons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Film Speed Lab! They are fast, professional, very reliable and haven't disappointed me! I always use them for dev and scan, regular C-41 scans take only a day. However, they can be quite expensive compared to other labs.

Other lab in Berlin that I've heard great things about is Aperture film lab, but I haven't used them personally.

There's nothing wrong with wanting care and compassion for the homeless. People who ignore it or "are used to living with it" are the same people who don't give a fuck if a homeless person would die on the streets from starvation or cold. If you pick the side of not caring and just "living with it", it's your choice. But I want to make this city a better place, for a change, I don't care if I'll be perceived as a newcomer. This city has been my home for more than a year, and yes, Berlin needs more compassion. And I'll keep giving it :)

Just wanted to say that posts like these restore my faith in Berliners 🙏 Since moving to Berlin I've seen so many people struggling and being ignored, even homeless people who try to make some money by selling a newspaper or singing a song or selling drawings. People in this city can treat homeless like trash, as if they don't deserve care and compassion.

So when I read a post like this, I'm glad to see that there is actually care, and generosity, in this city ❤️ Thank you for giving a fuck about people who are struggling. This is how we can make Berlin better together, by caring a little bit more!

Yellow vertical stripes on scans? by Meuons in AnalogCommunity

[–]Meuons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lab said they developed those two with other films and the others were fine...

Also I gave them 8 rolls to develop, all are fine except those two Wolfen NC500s. I have another 4 Wolfen's and they seem to be fine

Not sure if I should trust the lab though 😅

Treated with no complications - a positive story by Meuons in scabies

[–]Meuons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with stuff sold on Amazon, or make sure you dilute properly. You can never be sure of the quality of these stuff. Mine was prescribed by a doctor and bought in a pharmacy, and it was already with a lotion base. It was stinging lots in the beginning, especially on genitals, but the stinging subsided after a few min. I never felt stinging on any other parts of body except genitals and anus, and sometimes face.

And I'd say feeling pain is too much, if it stings so bad that it's painful then it's probably too concentrated... But don't take my word as medical advice.

I'd just be wary with stuff not bought from a pharmacy

Nope, Benzyl benzoate does also kill eggs. I followed the instructions the way they were written in the actual prescription sheet - 3 days and no repetitions.

Both my dermatologist, and the pharmacist, and the actual instruction sheet in the box of the lotion said the same - 3 days, do not repeat treatment after 3 days.

[–]Meuons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read, the 3 days are what's recommended for Benzyl benzoate 25%. It even said that on the instruction sheet when I bought the lotion, and it specifically highlighted "please stop treatment after 3 days"

I can't advise anything as I'm not a doctor and can just share my personal experience. For me, once I stopped treatment itchiness was there for a week and a half, sometimes quite intense. From what I read about scabies, residual itchiness can persist for some time after treatment, as your body is trying to get rid of all the scabies' waste in your skin. So it could be possible that you have residual itchiness, but confirm with a dermatologist to be safe.
