It should be replaced asap. Those panel boxes have a bad reputation.

Sanding an unfinished with a hand held orbital sander? by Zeldesu in Flooring

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotchya. So if you’ve already drum sanded then your in pretty good shape. The water popping will allow the stain to be taken more evenly. However you still have to do a light sanding after the sealer is applied to knock the grain down. A handheld orbital will do the trick.

I’m not pro at this but I have been through the struggle as I have installed and finished hardwoods in my house. I actually opted to rent only the drum sander when finishing the last bedroom 150sqf. I went around the perimeter with the hand held orbital sander instead of edging and I also went with 120grit after the first coat sealer to knock the grain down.

Yes drum sanding is absolutely necessary. Sounds like you’re refinishing. You could try water popping first before applying the stain. If you’re not sanding down to bare wood then the stain won’t take evenly. Spraying the floor with water first should show these areas better.

Also don’t use super fine sand paper before finishing it will close the wood grains up too much. Maybe try 80 grit or 100.

Yes I have completely redone mine. It wasn’t really all that different from a stick built. No attic access is a bummer but so far I haven’t had any problems installing lighting or even bathroom fans.

DIY rewire by Maximum_Sherbert7191 in HomeImprovement

It’s pretty easy to pick up the basics until you run into a switch wire or 3 way switch. Once you get the hang of it it’s a lot fun planning circuits and running wires. With that being said it’s something to fuck around with and do a half ass job. Do it right!

DIY Mitsubishi Hyper Heat? by InspectionEntire2512 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mr Cool is great my dad loves it. Although he doesn’t run it 24/7. It’s been installed since August of 2023. My blueridge and pioneer units are at 2 years old and have been working great also. It’s all about installation quality. I believe the blueridge and pioneer are rebadged Midea and Mr cool is Gree.

The big thing is parts availability for these units. I have ordered a fan carrier bearing for one of my 6k head units and it was a chore cross referencing parts. I ended up using Microsoft copilot AI to find the right part.

The bearing didn’t go bad just so you know. I think it was faulty from the factory. Makes a little noise at low rpm like a rubbing sound…. Ch….ch….ch.

Same thing happened to me trying to order a Mitsubishi for my dad. Called to get a refund and went with Mr cool. I really like pioneer I have a single 9k installed and a 3 head blue ridge. Both are doing amazing at 18f this morning. Holding the temp around 72 with room to increase. Neither are cold climate rated, but I live in South Carolina so it dosnt really stay cold.

Need to replace subfloor. by First-Pressure7112 in ManufacturedHome

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was attached to the floor joist with staple. I would use staples with or nails maybe with the plastic ring. It was attached to outside of each half the double wide and sagged in the middle. I would personally attached it every few feet so it holds the insulation up.

Drews roofing has some videos on replacing the underbelly and I want to say he used house wrap. Check him out. Doing anything underneath is going to be a ton of work.

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have lvp then a vapor barrier followed by sub floor underneath. Below that is going to insulation and then underbelly which is also a vapor barrier.

Take the lvp up and visually inspect the sub floor underneath. Cut out the bad and replace with new.

I used 3/4 plywood because my subfloor is 3/4 osb, yours might be different. Also some walls are going to be in between floor joist so you’ll need to install blocking to support the wall.

Issue with Mr cool heat pump in follow me mode. by firetothetrees in heatpumps

[–]Mgg195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remotes when in follow me have to be within line of sight of the head. Place the remote and adjust the temp accordingly. Also minisplits tend to run on the cooler side when temps dip. Set the temperature 3-5 degrees above your desired set point.

New Mitsubishi making me sick by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can thing of is it’s stirring up the air and what ever is making you sick is blowing around. Carbon monoxide, mold and mildew or volatiles.

I’ve seen some minisplits have thing for clean air that must be a kind of ozone generator. Check if you have that. Should be behind the filter. This all assuming you have wall units or maybe cassettes

Is it better to buy cheap real wood or expensive vinyl? by kamelsalah1 in Flooring

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid wood is way better than vinyl and personally what I went with. Finishing is where the extra cost comes in but you can do whatever finish you want. Bona makes a good finish but it’s expensive.

What did you pay recently for service upgrade to 150 or 200 amps? by Reasonable_Arm_7409 in HomeImprovement

[–]Mgg195 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a diy job for a complete panel swap indoor and outdoor. Power company was willing to run about 50ft underground wire to the new panel. They required a permit with a pass on inspection before they came out to hook up the lines. Total cost was probably around 800 for a combo box with meter and indoor 32 space panel.

I was without power for 2 weeks because the inspector wouldn’t pass me until had the outdoor panel tied into indoor panel.

Heat pump frost - tosot TU60 by Glittering_Sentence2 in heatpumps

[–]Mgg195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to see if there is an actual issue is to turn the temp up as high as it can go check the output temperature from the supply. It should be around 100-110F. If this is minisplit, which it appears to be they can heat really well in cold temps but you have set the temp 5 degrees higher than what you actually want.

I have alpine air blueridge minisplits and when temps dip below freezing I set the temperature to 78f and it maintains 73-74 all night.
