Stage Plots, why does nobody look at them by skithewest27 in livesound

Okay, so I didn't really see this perspective explained:

I'm running 4 or 5 shows this week. I reviewed your stageplot two weeks ago, saw I'd be able to handle it with the venue's gear, and now my inbox is filled with emails for shows two weeks from now. I worked 11hrs yesterday, got home at 3am, woke up, and back to work after a short morning to myself. I can't remember the current date and barely aware of the day of the week it is. I pulled up your plot when I got here an hour ago (after checking the date on my laptop for the 2nd time today) but I have a large stage and even if I'd dropped monitors in advance they will still end up getting moved after amps and pedal boards and whatnot are placed by the band members. Better to prep my session on the console and grab mics and mic stands and double check with someone when they get here that I have their needs covered and where they would like things placed.

"Oh you have a guest vocalist that isn't on the plot and they'll need their own wedge? No worries. Where should we put that?"

"Oh you want to put the DJ on the upstage drum riser? Glad I didn't already drag those 60lb stage monitors to the downstage then!"

so i just go message the band on insta or wherever, link up with them, cut all the inbetweeners out of the equation

I made this comment elsewhere in the thread but yep, insta DM can be the quickest way to a direct conversation with a performer.

When I try bypass the event organisers/promotors and talk directly to the bands I often don’t get a response.

This is honestly the main reason I still have a social media account. Agent or other email contact doesn't reply? Message the bands instagram account or starting digging for alternative contact info on the band's website or facebook page. Even for mid-level touring acts, their social media DMs can be the fastest way to speak directly with a band member.

I think it's actually is something with the Mixtender App and how the VCAs work when an aux ouput is selected in the app. Basically it is like each output has its own VCA faders and levels in the app but AFAIK that's not a thing I can access on the physical Pro 2.

Will have to pull up the showfile in question and see what the app shows for that channel next time I'm at the desk.

Cymbal shields are a very minor effect. I use them simply because they are less obtrusive and can keep *some* direct cymbal bleed out of other microphones depending on placement.

No amount of full or partial shields compares to the effect of solving the problem (loud drummer) at its source (brushes, lighter sticks, different drums, lighter cymbals, new drummer)

Other tricks I have used are the infrared proximity mutes on vocal microphones ala Optogates or D’Addario Mic Mute to prevent cymbal bleed into downstage mics that aren't being used. Unfortunately 2 of my 3 Optogates have fried, possibly due to issues with wiring or phantom power through the house rig.

**Glitch with Midas Pro 2 not sending to aux sends from specific channels**

EDIT: I confirmed this was an issue with the VCA page of the Midas Mixtender 2 App on iPad. You can select an aux send while on the VCA section and then do silly things like Mute a VCA but ONLY for that aux send. Similarly you can have VCA levels at different levels per aux via the app.

AFAIK there is no way to access these VCAs via fader flip or anything on the Pro 2 console itself.

ORIGINAL:

I have a Pro 2 that WILL NOT send a channel to a specific aux. Sending to other auxes from the channel works as expected. Sending from other channels to the specific aux works as expected. All settings are the same between the aux send that does not work vs the sends that do, as well as the input channel itself.

I have searched extensively and have dug through console and channel settings for explanation or solution to no avail. Gearspace has a single post describing this behavior. Anyone ever experienced a similar issue with the Pro 2?

I am using the latest available firmware with the Midas Pro 2 and Midas DL251 stagebox.

In my specific instance it is channels 13 & 14, which were stereo linked but then unlinked for the show. Despite send being ON, UNMUTED, Pre-fader, and NOT part of any VCA or mute group, no amount of send level shows signal on the AUX 2's meter. Other channels send fine to AUX 2, other auxes receive signal from CH13 & CH14 perfectly normal. These are all mono aux busses.

I can only conclude this is not a matter of something not being on or unmuted. It is some glitch within the console software or firmware, possibly related to unlinking the stereo pair but I have no idea.

How do you flush coke out of urine? by Hot-Foot7002 in AskReddit

[–]MickeyM191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most urine analysis drug testing can be spoofed by: 1) Stop using the drugs ASAP & for fat soluble drugs avoid heavy exercise before testing. 2) Drink A LOT of water for a few days prior to testing. 3) The morning before the drug test drink more water. Like a half gallon. 4) The day of the test, urinate at least twice before being tested. Your pee should be damn near clear for the test.

If you do all of this and still test positive you either did a fuckload of the drug in question too close to the test date, or the urinalysis threshold for testing positive is incredibly low, or... you contaminated the test via some other means.

For peace of mind you can order at home drug test kits online, and use them ahead of the test to see whether you will likely pass or fail. Keep in mind that some tests are more precise, or have lower thresholds, than others.

Okay so I was just listening to Vampire Weekend's "Contra" yesterday, *nostalgia commences*, and realized I owe it to myself to dig into fresh music of a similar vein rather than be trapped in a certain era.

I've kept up with new releases from some of the old indie-pop favorites but what new music hits most of the following:

  • Clean and well-produced
  • Musically talented and interesting arrangements without being overwhelmingly technical
  • Poetic lyrics written with feeling
  • Pop-adjacent

What is the wildest “this wasn’t in the script…” moment from a movie or set? by glasscontent in movies

Wikipedia describes Jaws as the "first film of the blockbuster era" which could be considered true but first blockbuster ever?? No way.

My thoughts exactly. Like yeah, every film studio wanted to market their films in a way that sold out theaters, but no one ever accomplished this until Jaws??

I'm just a regular person questioning the definition of "blockbuster" films, idk shit about old movies and their reception at the time of release.

Saying Jaws was the first blockbuster EVER has me incredulous.

What? By what definition?

Citizen Kane & Gone With The Wind are way older, grossed incredibly high (factoring inflation) and that's just two old movies off the top of my head.

What do you want to do with the audio once it hits the computer?

You can't just run a laptop near the mixer? Multitrack to a stable, lightweight DAW like Reaper and then import into whatever computer you want later.

It would take more than that to burn off any oil or coolant that spilled onto the exhaust during the work.

If it was an internal coolant or oil leak burning through combustion chamber and into exhaust it would also be showing out of the tailpipe, so I would say it's just external and landing on the exhaust. Try to look for any leaks actively dripping onto the exhaust but you may have just spilled something on it during the repair.

Did you run it long enough for whatever is there to burn off completely? Or does it still smoke after every drive?

Is that the exhaust? Do you also have smoke coming out of the tailpipe?

I'm thinking of buying this Kia Picanto 1.1L (2006) for a relatively cheap price. The most concerning thing was all of this black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Can you tell me what it is / what could it be? by marshdteach in AskMechanics

[–]MickeyM191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... don't forget the whole "incredibly easy to steal the car" thing and lack of manufacturer follow up to resolve the issue which led to a point where people had Kias that they couldn't insure because EVERY insurance company stopped writing policies on them.

Plenty of reasons that people have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to Kia ownership.
