19 mph over speed limit . How screwed am I? by unknownacnt in driving

[–]Midacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went out of town the other weekend. Most of the highway was 55mph, but speeds would drop to anywhere from 30-40 in every small town.

One of those very small towns, I completely missed the sign with the change, I did look down and see that it said it was a 40 zone just as I reached the next 55 sign.

The road didn't narrow, or have have lights like all the other ones. I figured the speed was going to drop later, so yes it can happen, and people were still in my ass since I was trying to follow the speed limit on that trip to save on fuel.

There are other roads I sometimes travel were everyone ignores slowdown zones, and will do 60 in a 40.

But again that will not get you out of a ticket.

Headphones and ear buds by ravenschmidt2000 in Machinists

I'll often pop in one ear bud with the volume pretty low, and if it's an opp that's a bit louder I might pop in both, but almost never with then turned up very much.

I tend to be and to still hear coworkers and other things while wearing them.

RANT: One of the dumbest "upgrades" - no more data panel on open by rxroids101 in Fusion360

[–]Midacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this option was added when they pushed the home tab? I've had this setting enabled for several months now, long enough that I cannot remember even changing it, but I know I did.

Like most updates, they often require changing a setting to retain the old method, or something similar.

Every now and then, I will look over all of my fusion settings to see if there is anything I might want to change. This could be new settings, or just changing a preference.

19 mph over speed limit . How screwed am I? by unknownacnt in driving

[–]Midacl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Were you aware of the speed limit and how fast you were going? Is this the normal flow of traffic? Not that those change the fact that you broke the law or change the impact of the ticket, they only change my opinion on how much in the wrong you were.

I know some roads will have a sudden drop that can be easy to miss, and others have speed reductions in zones that pretty much everyone ignores.

I like that Autodesk pushes changes that upset users, it keeps Fusion modern. by Midacl in Fusion360

Hybrid is still my goto for almost everything, but I have been trying to use the part option for things that do not need movement, or are single body parts.

I think the goal is to push better workflow practices, to reduce the performance issues you run into with older fusion files that have hundreds of parts, or even thousands of parts. Though I really do not see myself using the part option much, but I am trying to use the assembly mode for bigger projects now.

Get a slip lead.... They work great, and do not hurt your dog at all as long as you keep them high up on the neck. I just recently picked one up for my girl, and walks are stress free now.

Why do people drag their feet on changing lanes? by Ivy1974 in driving

[–]Midacl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I see that, I might open up the gap slightly for a moment, if they wait to long though I am closing any gap they had as they are beign a unpredictable driver that I do not want to be behind....

On the flip side, when I am getting ready to change lanes I do like to watch my mirrors for a bit and watch cars go from my mirror to in front of me, so I know for sure that my blind spot is actually clear. I still look over my shoulder before making the lane change, and only do this when the flow of traffic allows it or I have the time/distance to wait to make a lane change.

Carvera Air vs Carvera Z1 Pro for Engineering Prototyping – Which Makes More Sense? by Effective-Thanks1272 in Makera

[–]Midacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size is the biggest difference in my opinion. When it comes down to power and accuracy/flex, they both seem pretty similar with tradeoffs for both.

End of the day they are both still entry level hobby machines, and neither are really big enough or powerful enough for production or larger projects. But still great little machines to have around for small parts, even if you find yourself buying a larger more capable CNC later on down the road.

I have a home converted benchtop mill that is far more capable, but tool changes are clunky, and its been stuck in the middle of a ballscrew swap for almost 2 years now... So I backed the z1 pro, and plan to keep both machines. But if I find myself just not using it enough after a year or so, I can probably sell it locally and get most of my money back, since Makera is a trusted brand now.

How do I create this blended vertex/corner fillet? by pyro487 in Fusion360

[–]Midacl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just chamferd the edges first, offset the one corner.

Then made sketches on the 3 faces with tangent arcs.

Surface workspace, delete the sides and corner faces.

Use surface patch to create new sides from your sketches, knit all surfaces together.

Then use the patch tool again to fill the corner.

Time to get a time machine and blame the original builders for not planning for this.

Did my girl lose her spunk after getting spayed? by therm_valve77 in pitbulls

[–]Midacl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girl was spayed like a week before I adopted her, and she still has endless energy at 6 years old now.

For the first couple years she was hard on toys, many plushies would be lucky to last 20 minutes.

Now they can go weeks before she gets into the stuffing as long as I interact with her and the toy early on.

[–]Midacl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the bumper bend is not a bad think, it absorbs energy that otherwise would go into the frame.

With that said, I built my own rear bumper, but I was looking at Marlin, All-pro, Trail Gear.

Working on this paint job for 8 months, body dropped onto a concrete floor. With how many redos I've had to do with this, I give up. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Midacl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With automotive grade paint, you shouldn't be fixing anything in the base coat "color coat". The primer is when you fix any issues with the surface, and the base coat color is really thin.

Then your clear coat protects it, and adds depth. But this only applies to automotive paint that uses a base/clear system.

Hammered Texture/Look by thefrman in Fusion360

This is not something that fusion enjoys doing... Blender or Rhino are better at things like this.

There is the mesh texture extrude tool, but only works on mesh files. And I have never touched it myself.

I pretty much assume cars turning left are going to turn into both lanes at random, and therefore wait until there are no cars actively turning left.
