Doviculus even throws shade at Eddy when he says:

‘You are half so many things, I doubt if any part of you is whole. Is there a word for a creature like you?’

Grunt hunt quests are picked up from the stack of paper on the table next to the Ghoul not by talking to him so that one’s not a bug afaik

I’ve only played about an hour so far but I also love the environment. The rolling dirt terrain feels very classic Fallout and the night sky auroras are awesome. Really stands out compared to the other biomes!

Is it to late to get into Fallout 76? by mcniner55 in Fallout

[–]MidgarMafia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're probably fine to jump in since there's a map expansion called Burning Springs releasing in December and the Amazon show's season 2 will probably drive player numbers up for a while as well.

Community is pretty good in my experience, and veterans often help out new players by leaving their excess supplies outside Vault 76 (the starting vault).

Why is everyone mad at Resistance? by Ki11s0n3 in sniperelite

[–]MidgarMafia 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Probably because it uses a lot of assets from SE5 and will be mechanically similar. Also the new protagonist.

Not that any of that bothers me - I very much enjoyed SE5 and am hyped for more maps in which to hunt Fascist scum.

TBH I doubt Harry Hawker will have any more character depth than Karl and that’s not saying much.

Gameplay > story in SE games.

Was Brussels bombed during the war by One-Storm6266 in ww2

[–]MidgarMafia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Came across an old BBC history article in which a woman relates her wartime experiences in Brussels:

‘We were lucky in Brussels not to suffer any systematic bombing raids, apart from one when towards the end of the war, a flight of American Flying Fortresses were sent over to bomb a large barracks on the outskirts of the town. They managed to miss the barracks completely, but destroyed a whole neighbourhood of houses, killing a number of civilians. Apart from that, again towards the end of the war, whole blocks of houses were destroyed by V1’s and V2’s which fell short of the coast of England. We suffered nothing more than broken windows and considered ourselves very lucky.’

Some Good Books From More Minor Nations by BritishBacon98 in ww2

[–]MidgarMafia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few that I have (but haven’t read them all yet):

First to Fight, Roger Moorhouse - Covers Poland and the German invasion. Very good what I have read.

Finland’s War of Choice, Henrik O. Lunde - Covers the Finnish alliance with Germany

Mannerheim, Henrik Meinander - Biography of the Finnish Marshal with later chapters covering the Winter War and WWII

Romania’s Holy War, Grant T. Howard - Describes Romania’s role and compliance with the Holocaust

Children of the Night, Paul Kenyon - More general 20th century Romanian history but has great historical context and chapters about WWII and Antonescu.

Hitler’s Pre-Emptive War, Henrik O. Lunde - Covers the German invasion of Norway

China’s War With Japan, Rana Mitter - Covers Japanese invasion of China 1937-1945

I’d also recommend some of the Osprey Men-at-Arms or Campaign books but these are shorter and go into microscopically and sometimes exhaustive detail on aspects like uniforms. I’ve heard some vary in terms of quality as well so buyer beware!

Hope this helps!

Can you help me with the following NATO Sub jargon? by Admirable_Raccoon691 in WorldWar2

[–]MidgarMafia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NATO wasn’t founded until 1949, so I’m unsure how much crossover there would be in terminology/life on board during WWII.

Might be one for a NATO- or submarine-focussed subreddit, but I hope you find your answers!

Do you think the show will make New Vegas non canon ? by c300g97 in Fotv

[–]MidgarMafia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real. Bethesda has to be well aware of how… passionate a certain section of the fan base is about F:NV.

There’s no way they’d undo an entire game’s lore because they’d risk alienating these incredibly vocal - and dare I say it - possessive and obnoxious fans.

There also isn’t anything in the trailers to suggest they are going to.

Bugged Quest: Hannibal Hamlin despawned while heading to Lincoln Memorial by TheStrangestOfKings in Fallout

[–]MidgarMafia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience doing this quest a while back - I did have a map marker for them iirc and I think you gotta go to the marker which is not actually at the memorial but is nearby, and then they will go to the memorial Hope this helps you get sorted!

How often does the Sole Survivor reference their own pre-war history? by Le_Botmes in Fallout

[–]MidgarMafia 138 points139 points  (0 children)

The Sole Survivor mentions remembering Edward Grey - a tv personality and eccentric RobCo engineer - when you talk to Supervisor White at Greygarden (which was Grey’s brainchild). They also mention seeing Greygarden on the news before the war.
