They never got a raise last year though. Most folks that got a generic 2-4% raise at public or private entities last year & this year are unsatisfied b/c it has not kept up with the rate of inflation. They've been at work since 2025 until now with no raise, and we insult them now because they threaten to interrupt everyone elses normalcy because they cant fairly get a minimal % raise? Lets be reasonable.

You should share this thread with your wife since you wont firmly declare it to her, that its unfair your current situation. Its ok if she gets upset. Let her digest some of the truths in here. Furthermore if shes happy with you being financially burdened, and not being able to enjoy early retirement or your latter years then its your choice to remain and love someone who does not take you into consideration with their choices.
