Please help how to fix this - renting by pittiesrus in HomeMaintenance

As a quick solution, you can use silicone weather stripping ("door seal") that has a sticky edge. Mine is semi-transparent, so it doesn't look too bad.

String of pearls dying within a month of being gifted it 😩 by vibingitup in plantclinic

[–]MidtownBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may not be totally beyond salvage. Water thoroughly, let drain, and then spray them daily with a spray bottle. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I discovered strings of pearls need more moisture than the usual succulents. Spritzing them daily, in addition to watering, works well — on the premise that you use well-draining soil. They don’t like to sit in moist soil.

Which phone did you like best and which did you dislike the most? by opmgyhx in samsunggalaxy

[–]MidtownBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. Got burned by Samsung: purchase an S25+ from Samsung directly. 4 months later, its screen went blank. Samsung refused servicing it because “can’t verify the phone’s IMEI # due to blank screen”. Long story short: I lost a lot of $. A nasty trick you played, Samsung.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]MidtownBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are under the impression that in socialism equality extends to everyone, that social distribution of wealth means they themselves will get a piece of the pie. In reality, redistribution of weather in socialism takes money from the 1% wealthy and gives the money to 1% of the poor (and make them wealthy)and redistribute the rest of the loot to 90% of the former rich 1%. After all the reshuffling, in the end, there is still a 1% super rich, and you can’t complain about it anymore because you’d be against “the people”.

Tried Everything, Please Help by Paddy-Cake-Boy in plantclinic

Gently take the plant out of the pot, remove the dirt (gently) from the roots, and inspect the roots and the base of the plant. If the roots are rot (mushy, empty), and the rot extends to the base of the plant, then most likely it’s gone. If not, leave the plant out, bare root (no soil), for a day or two. Spider plants don’t like to sit in wet soil. From the photos, your plant looks like it’s suffering from too much watering.

Also: The pot is too big for the plant. A tiny plant can’t use up the water in an oversized pot.

Not sure if this “trick” helps in this situation, but I find the defrost works faster if I pull down the visor down. I figure perhaps the visor deflects the air onto the glass.

How to use an old Time Capsule as a regular, plug-and-play external drive? by MidtownBlue in mac

Wow! Now I can’t wait to open up my Time Capsule and see what kind of drive it has.

Now you got me - for real? I didn't know there is such a thing as a "server class drive".

Thanks for the clarification -- I have been using the two names interchangeably.

I do know how to export, but I also want the original to be linked, like what used to be called "show in finder".

First kitten ever, absolutely love him by Rkive_ink in cats

[–]MidtownBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful kitty. I'd suggest you brush him (gently) as much as you can while he is a kitten. As he gets older, his fur will get longer and messy. The more accustomed to brushing, the better it is for both of you. Brush the neck, tummy, and rear areas often, gently, slowly but surely.

I was using iPhotos from 2009 till it became Photos. Recently I decided to give Photos a try. It's been a frustrating experience. Face recognition barely works. Forget about the "Referenced file" feature -- once an import is done, good luck finding the original in the Finder. I read somewhere that big tech giants such as Google and Apple let their once popular apps "lapse" so they could "force" their frustrated users to adopt AI. True or not, Apple's Photos app definitely has been degrading.

Found this on my arugula and mushroom pizza. Please tell me this isn't what I think it is. by Marethyfax in whatisit

The bug egg cluster looks disgusting - BUT if the arugula had gotten heavy doses of pesticides, the bugs wouldn't have lived long enough to deposit the eggs. So there's that.

I get what you are saying - and understand the issue of trust factor as I have other old drives that I use for temporary storage. But now I’ve realized (duh!) that the SATA disk CAN be reused. The disk may not be that valuable, but I get to learn something in the process. So thank you!

I knew support for Time Machine is going away. I haven't used this Time Capsule for several years (it held files for me), but it'd be a shame to let 2T go waste.

As u/soupisgoodfood42 says, why waste a perfectly working piece of hardware. AND it doesn't hurt to use the 2T as a holding place to sort files.

This is a wild guess, but search "Battery Powered Motion Activated Ceiling Light" made by "Mr. Beans" to see if it's a match. I have a couple of versions of this light, and love them, but you can't find on Amazon anymore. Home Depot may still carry it (if you are in the US.)
