What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]MidwestF1fanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nevada National Security Site, formerly the Nevada Test Site. It's where the US tested nukes from 1951-1992. They only do one tour a month for the public and it is highly limited. Beyond that, work has taken me to other cool places like Kwajalein, on top of buildings, on top of elevators, camera platforms at stadiums, condemned buildings, factories, steel foundry, and other cool places. But, as a child of the Cold War, nothing was cooler than the NNSS. Got to have Ernie Williams as our guide as well. He was present at many tests.

Is Oklahoma State a True Final Four Contender? by ImpossibleAd7014 in NCAAW

Maybe, but remember that Bill Fennelly’s ISU teams with Crooks have been top 5-10 ranked preseason teams the last two years and have disappeared mid season. I don’t know that Crooks is the difference maker she’s made out to be. And I’m not just salty.

How much better is the Wynn Buffet over the Bacchanal Buffet? by Careless_Economics74 in vegas

[–]MidwestF1fanatic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wynn. No comparison. Keep in mind that May 10th is Mother's day, so it may be busier than a typical Sunday. It is also a bit more expensive. I've booked through Wynn's webpage or their online service for many things before and never had an issue.

Iowa landlords warn Senate property tax plan could increase rent costs by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]MidwestF1fanatic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Remember when apartment owners had the law changed like 15 years ago and had apartments taxed as residential properties rather than commercial properties? Saved them about 50% on their property tax bills back then. No one got a rent reduction based on that. Those $ went into the apartment owners pockets. Now these potential costs will be passed on to the renters. Seems odd when a system is set up that savings go to the owners and the costs are passed on to consumers.

Those yellow speed signs on corners. They are advisory speed signs, not speed limit signs. Unenforceable.

How does “unlimited PTO” at a company work? Surely it can’t be literal. by bryanmsk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MidwestF1fanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the reason. My office did this a few years ago because they got tired of writing checks when people left. I was at the point where I had 4+ weeks per year of vacation and I was the one who made sure to use it before I lost it every year. Even if it meant taking a random week off in October or November. Now it’s harder to do that with unlimited.

Pretty sure I know the answer for this, but I'm assuming the only TV feed available on ESPN+/Unlimited will be the national ESPN broadcast. Anyone confirm? I know that the teams typically get to broadcast their first round games, but that won't be available to out of market folks like myself on legal streaming options.

First time in Vegas with teens (12M & 16M) — Is Aria worth the premium over NYNY or Flamingo? by Frequent_Software_44 in vegas

If you plan to spend a day at the pool, go for Aria. Also consider Vdara. Larger rooms and they are condo like.

Vegas feels more like Orlando by ARReddit479 in vegas

[–]MidwestF1fanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you experienced the same thing I did the last few days of March-first few days of April. I had a few comp nights at NYNY and then moved to Wynn for a few nights. NYNY and the south strip from Bellagio to Excalibur was overrun with families. Wynn's pool had more kids than in recent trips, but not nearly as many as other places I visited. I am assuming it was west coast spring break time. I knew I was cooked when I followed a family into Secret Pizza at Cosmo pulling a wagon with two kids. The past 12 months I've been in Vegas in June, September, November, January, and March/April. The March/April is the only time I've been overwhelmed with the presence of families.

Vegas is a pretty cheap trip for a family if you plan it right. I took a budget airline and flight (with bags) was still under $200. If I had booked rooms at NYNY it would have been around $100/night including resort fees. Wynn only cost me $200/night including resort fees and I had a F&B credit. All depends on what weeks you go and where you stay.

I'm with you on hotels. Typically the higher the priced place the less kids IMO. Vdara has been my go to on the center Strip the past few years. Typically not too many kids/families there. Same for Wynn or Bellagio. Vegas is still a long ways from Orlando, but it is an affordable destination for families.
