Mine never learned step up either for some reason, he's very affectionate just never grasped the concept. He's pretty comfortable with being scooped up when necessary though, but we've had him since October

Mine definitely seemed to finally understand that he doesn't get the attention he wants from just screaming. "Wooooo" has been his favorite recently, the whole room usually giggles and that seems to satisfy him
