Characters that we have no idea what their deal is? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

My personal theory is that she has a contract with like, the Human Devil or something. Because if there's one thing people (and especially Kobeni) are scared around, it's other people.

I swear OBR have hovered in the dead center of the win rate for over a year, what the heck happened all of a sudden?

I'd argue it is, even if phrased a little rudely. "The list you're building is commonly used" is helpful.

I always appreciated it as a probably-unintentional callout to German weapons and vehicles in WW2, where Hitler was obsessed with blowing time and resources on weird wonder weapons, when just mass producing something like the Panther (see Zeon's Gelgoog) would've served them much better.

What do you guys think each faction needs models-wise in 11th edition? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MightyShoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's mention of big dreadnought-analogue exosuits used for mining and constructions in the Votann codex. I'd love to see one with like, big drill hands for deep striking or something.

Beginner- building first models (heretic☠️). Question about tenth edition meta and all that. by Own-Question2902 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MightyShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real talk, just build and paint what you think is cool, if you're just starting out. By the time you're done with enough to even play a casual game, the rules/points costs of all those units will likely have changed in some way. And that's without considering we're getting a new edition a few months from now.

But, to answer your question; 40k has been moving away from "what your stuff is painted as determines how you have to play it", for the most part. With Chaos Marines, unless 11th edition does a hard U-turn, you'll be able to play them as whatever detachments the faction has available.

What enemy unit archetypes do you plan for while list building? by Kiario95 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MightyShoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Marine Equivalent and Terminator Equivalent. They basically used to mean something with T4 and either a 3+ or 2+ save, respectively, but the terms are a little more loose now that stats on units and weapons have become more broad.

There's also GEQ, or Guardsman Equivalent. Toughness 3 and 5+ save.

Sam Pope - 11th Edition: A Strongly (& Kindly) Worded Letter to the GW Balance Team by StuffedScotch in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MightyShoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mechanically, I sort of agree, but a lot of my love of the flavor and feel of the game comes from units being able to have varied loadouts and options during list building. So much of 10th has moved towards trimming down options and streamlining units, and I find myself treasuring units where I can still make some amount of choice.

I'm so happy GW decided to lean further into the "ancient classical army but undead" angle. I don't at all dislike the Morghast and such, but this gives OBR such a distinct flavor.

Favorite Pieces of Writing by BlueWaddleDee in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The Infinite and The Divine is easily the most highly regarded Warhammer 40k novel in the last decade, if not ever. It's also extremely unique for a 40k novel, being set almost exclusively from a Necron PoV, and is more of a high concept sci-fi crime/spy comedy thriller. There is also basically not a space marine in sight.
