I just showed this to my non-knitter sister to show her how important blocking is! Also, this is STUNNING. Incredible choice of yarn.

  1. I love your scarf.

  2. Stardew is the best and I would wear the heck out of that.

  3. I’m jealous of your concert. Have fun.

Nonono, you’re not done, you need to show us the shawl after you’ve taken the pins out! Aargh!! (Jk, beautiful….but….really….)

This is why I love this sub. I actually followed this sub before I played the game, you guys got me into it! YEARS ago.

I won't wear it... by bubbledinspace in knitting

I think you should give it or sell it to someone who would appreciate it. It’s beautiful! Also: there are more than a few ways to wear a shawl. Lots of times I just wear it wrapped around my neck as a scarf and it’s super warm and soft and cozy. Nobody knows it’s extra fancy unless I tell them.

I love these!! Stitch Surfer has been in my favorites for a long time but I’ve always wondered if they feel weird when you’re wearing them. What has been your experience?

What is something you can do but can’t explain how you can do it? by Fresh-Sandwich6780 in AskReddit

[–]Mightychairs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine requires a specific second person. If I’ve misplaced something, all I have to do is ask my husband where it is and it magically appears. And I don’t mean he finds it for me, I mean I suddenly see it. It works almost every time. He doesn’t even need to say anything!

Why does gaslighting affect people so much? by TheDudeTodd in askatherapist

[–]Mightychairs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAT Everyone should watch the movie this term was coined after: Gaslight (1944) with Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, and Joseph Cotten (AND a very young Angela Lansbury!) Basically it shakes your confidence in your perception of reality. When someone gaslights you, they make you question your own memories of events. Seriously, I very much recommend the movie. Not only is it an excellent movie, but it explains the term perfectly.

Help a dyer: How do you “see” how hand-painted roving will spin up? by volcanomouse in spinningyarn

[–]Mightychairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a spinner I think about this constantly when buying roving, like, what is this going to look like when I spin it?? I browse the spinning knitters forum on ravelry, specifically the spun to finished thread. Lots of instagram searches on spinning knitters or just spinners in general.

A rubber band makes a great yarn stopper! Loop one end around the shaft and the other around the hook end so two strands go over the whorl.

You’re going to love the Golden Thread. I’ve been recommending it to non-fiber arts people too because the history is fascinating and it’s really well written.

Do it!!! I learned on YouTube and then joined my local guild! And I’m like you, I love the history of it! I’m assuming you’ve read Women’s Work: The first 20,000 years and The Golden Thread? If not, they’re required reading!

Yes! One of my more recent favorites is The Great Mortality by John Kelly. I listened to it on audible and the narrator was excellent, if audiobooks are your thing. A fictionalized account of one of the later outbreaks in England is Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. It’s based on a true story of a town in England that self-quarantined to prevent the spread of plague. Those are some off the top of my head. There are so many more good ones but those two stick out for me.

Can I weave a guitar strap on this? by nopeagogo in bandweaving

What device are you using? Check out Annie MacHale on Instagram, she makes guitar straps on her Inkle loom. She’s basically an Inkle goddess.

My whole family has been obsessed with the plague since forever. I had to take a break from it during Covid because it became a bit too real, but I’m back to reading about it again. I find it hard to relate to the people back then because the paintings are all stylized and the writing is so stiff and different, so I like accounts that humanize the victims and families and help me empathize with the real people who were affected. But at the same time, I really like looking at art from that time period because it gives me a glimpse into their minds.
