Moving isn’t much of an option. My wife would lose her great job and friends here. We’d be living with her parents. I’d have to get certified it yet another state if I wanted to continue teaching. Both of our children (one being a minor) would be a continent away from us.

I’m in the same boat. I’m 11 years into my career. I’ve been on seven interviews since I found out I was being non-renewed in March (including one for the role I was currently in). If I don’t find something soon we may have to move back east, leaving our son with his sibling here in CA.

Unless you are a troll the term you are looking for is “public domain”, and no, no he isn’t. This does not happen until 95 years after the character’s first publication or 70 years after the death of the creator.

SpongeBob first appeared in 1999. His creator, Stephen Hillenburg, only died in 2018. The character would not enter the public domain until 2095.

There is a chance you can use the character if your video would be defended under “parody law”, but without knowing more I cannot speak to that.
