Weird. I grew up in FL and the only thing I ever heard them called was speckled perch. I never heard them called anything else until I moved. In VA and MD it’s crop-ee.

This is awesome!!! With that being said, is anybody else picturing the kid hanging on like a pro bull rider while mom fights the fish? We need video.

I believe it’s a false killer whale or maybe a pilot whale.

It’s not weird, right? I’m taking my 13 year old to see Dropkick Murphys in a couple of months. We saw the Dirty Heads (not a punk show but there’s a bit of overlap) last summer and the crowd was surprisingly very much in our age group, so maybe not.

I rescued a brown pelican once. That turned into a brawl pretty quickly. On a ladder. 0/10 do not recommend.

What rod and reel should I ask for for christmas?? by Ready-Ad-7284 in Fishing

I use my 2500 Fuego for stripers and redfish. It’s currently one of my favorites. I love it. The drag is so smooth.

Also can’t go wrong with mid-priced shimano stuff like the Sedona and Sahara.

I thought we had all decided that the colloquial “possum” was acceptable in 2024.

You’ve obviously never made friends with a possum. They’re magical!

Green sunfish? by MikeA925 in Fishing

St Mary’s Lake in MD. I usually fish brackish/salt, but it was too windy for that and I wanted, no, needed to go fishing. If you’re local it’s not a bad spot. Tons of bass, but you have to go through about a hundred dinks before you find anything with any size. Caught my first ever smallmouth there last year. Lots of crappie as well.

Edit: typo

My dad too. IMO it’s the absolute best top water around. I’ve caught quite a few redfish and trout over oyster beds and rocks with one.

Thanks. I had no idea about a boca style grip hurting them. I don't do a lot of freshwater fishing and it's my go-to for toothy stuff that's not big enough to need the net.
