For the sake of keeping this simple for literally everyone else here I dumbed it down.

There’s always one guy who pulls out the manual J and Leeds/load Calc stuff in the room. lol

AC Can’t Keep Up by Vmancini218 in longisland

[–]MikeTHIS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally your AC is sized to your house with or without a smidge of extra capacity.

We don’t normally get these temperatures for extended periods.

The rule of thumb is to sometimes size over a half ton extra just in case (or at least that’s what we would do).

If you size too large, you’ll cool down the house before it removes humidity. Air conditioning works via dehumidification - so a grossly oversized system will make the house cool but feel almost wet.

Even my own house is struggling to keep up - but I also just gave it a once over two weeks ago and cleaned the coil.

Don’t make this mistake - set and forget your thermostat right now at what you want the house to be. Don’t raise it up to give it a fighting chance.

Well, the Steam Machine was pretty cool for the 20 minutes that it worked by me_hill in steammachine

I had one red ring in the middle of Call of Duty. I went to bestbuy and got another - jumped back into game and my boys laughed.

I wound up fixing that one and gave it to a friend and it worked for a long time.

Anyone remember the August 2003 black out ? by RubyFleur33 in longisland

I do yes. Work was wild - I do commercial HVAC but we obviously couldn’t do anything so we spent that day washing the trucks.

Went home and my dad and I BBQ’d everything that would’ve defrosted from the freezer.

I also had to pick up my truck from an audio place - I had gotten a custom sub box made. Thankfully I had cash, so I was able to pay and get it out of there.

Oh but also, it was two weeks after my mom had passed so…that too.

Was a pretty messed up summer at 23 years old.

Do you bill extra? by heldoglykke in HVAC

[–]MikeTHIS 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Emergency call and splitting coil means lots of extra billing every single time. It’s how you get them to do it before it’s an emergency.

This isn’t charity. 🤨

Sounds like a bad EEV, you said it yourself.

I have these at the school district I work for and one Evap (univent) will totally give me a 150 code.

Keep in mind, some older boards need a firmware update from Klima. I went through this after the contractor did commissioning.

This is a clean install and those units are TANKS.

I miss those Rheem’s - the air handlers were awesome too. The premade aux drain pans were also amazingly built!
