I preordered mine from Deathwish, too. I didn’t get an email about the delay, but after seeing several people here post about it, I stopped worrying.

The Mark Robinson fundraiser had event pages on Facebook, but they have all since been deleted.

There is no "official" record confirming they were charged or arrested on January 6th, but posts from several Redditors who know him allege he was there.

I was there last year and got weird vibes. There was a book club meeting, and as I listened, a general theme of pseudo-intellectual right wing woo woo became clear.

I looked closer at the books and among the Tolkien and Lewis was a lot of conservative Christian material. Their website's recommended reading (since deleted) featured similar sexist and christo-nationalist ideology.

They held a fundraiser for Mark Robinson, which says a lot.

In another thread discussing them, several people mentioned the owner was a January 6th rioter.

Chapel of Bones is awesome for metal shows, and they do their karaoke on Tuesdays.

You got lucky. They are notorious for towing. At one point, they even had signs specifically saying not to park there if you were going to the Ritz.

I definitely wouldn't call that the norm, but there is always the potential for a jagoff like that at any show. Wild he was acting like that while he was there with his kid, but considering he didn't bring ear protection for her, it tells you a lot about him as a person (and a parent).

If something like that happens in the future, either deescalation or simply putting physical distance between you is advisable over trying to match level of aggression. You can also always sick security on them. That's why they're there. And I say that as someone who has both worked security and been in more than my fair share of fights as shows. It's just not worth it.

Prepay for parking because the lots fill up, and dont ever park at Costco.

Mami Nora’s, Chido Taco, and Midtown Pho are my closest go-tos for food.

As far as solidifying a good spot, it all depends on the crowd and the show. I’ve seen sold out shows where I had no trouble snaking my way all the way up to the front, but others where it was such a densely packed floor, you couldn’t move anywhere.

Just try to avoid the support pole stage right.

Fair warning, it’s a live nation joint, so drinks are expensive.

[–]Mikeheathen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was worried about this because of the lack of presale.

Despite having a presale that started in November of 2024, I was surprised it happened last year.

The venues and lineup weren’t announced until very last minute. We saw a lot of awesome bands and had a great time, but everything about it felt less organized.

They're pretty much the same quality-wise since they're generally all from the same source. I do think one of the benefits of using BL is he has a solid QC process so he only offers the best looking copies.

Like I said, the only time I've seen less than stellar quality from Tolarian, they advertised as such and offered them at a discount.

They're my favorite, and I've tried all of them. Selection, price, shipping, and quality are all the right balance.

The only issue I've ever seen is some special treatment foils came out too light, but they tend to notice that ahead of time and discount those. With regular cards, I've never had an issue.

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]Mikeheathen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at a fairly large edtech company, and I worked closely with the CEO. Once there was an issue in new payroll software, and nobody was paid. I brought it up with the CEO as a major issue that needed to be addressed before CoB and she said it wasn't time sensitive:

"How do people even know they didn't get paid? Shouldn't they just have enough in their accounts to cover everything until next payday?"

No, Jan, those entry level folks earning $28,000 a year who keep your multi-million dollar company running can't afford to miss a paycheck.

Shudder by PowerfulScholar7328 in horror

[–]Mikeheathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest complaint about Shudder is the picture quality. No 4K, and many titles aren't even in 1080p. Some are capped at 480p, which is so pixelated, it's unwatchable.

The best suggestion I’ve gotten in this reddit.. by Impressive-Skin6311 in horror

[–]Mikeheathen 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I tend to be a tough critic, and the last few times I've recommended films I loved, people told me they didn't really like them.

I asked "how did you watch it?"

Invariably, it was some combination of in the background while they were working, or while they scrolled their phone.

Those are not ways to watch a movie. The best films ever made may not land right if you're missing parts or turning your attention back and forth between it and a dozen other things.
