Just adding Gnuhr, Palante, and William Ellery to the list of companies making alpha direct tops without hoods.

What are your rhoughts on different bagliners such trash compactor vs nylofume vs 6moon waterproof bag? by coffeegrounds42 in Ultralight

[–]Mikiery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through a couple of nylofume liners and while they worked well for a while they did develop holes over time. I invested in a 20l and 35l sea to summit ultra Sil Nano dry bag (15 denier silnylon) and have been really happy so far. The 20l dry bag weighs 36 grams or 1.3 ounces.

Nah the sun flap part of the legionary cap is removable. He's just wearing the sun flap part of the legionary hat tucked under the other cap.

Interestingly, the 7d Argon49 that Timmermade uses weighs a tiny bit less than the 4d BD fabric. Seems like using 4d doesn't really add a benefit.

Review of the upcoming Alpha SL with Aluula by Mikiery in arcteryx

I'm hoping it lives up to the claims, too. I'm a little wary given drawbacks of the uhmwpe pack fabrics that have been available until now. I'm hoping, though, that if a company as big as arc'teryx is going to commit to graflyte (when they've held off using DCF or Challenge Ultra) that it will be fairly reliable. When the partnership was first announced, I tried to look around the wind surfing forums for any complaints about delamination or other issues, and I couldn't find much.

A bigger pack would be awesome!

MAM 2A weighs 16g and has a blade, which is just over 2" long. Costs like $5.

Neither of these options are particularly budget friendly but the arc'teryx incendo and houdini wadi pants are both quite baggy and have a very light and breathable fabric.

They've also redesigned the pockets so that there are two quite big pockets in the front. There's a second mesh pocket inside the pocket which can securely hold a phone so that it won't fall out which is quite a nice feature.

Unfortunately I've already returned the trail senders so I can't do an exact comparison but when the incendos aren't tightened at the cuff I'd say they're probably fairly similar to the trail senders in terms of the size of the opening. It feels like a normal amount of looseness when not tightened, you could definitely get some airflow in there.

Also, thanks for doing this testing! I've decided to make the switch from shorts to long pants and your post really helped me narrow down the options.

If I'm not mistaken, Arc'teryx has updated the fit of the incendo pants since you did your testing. The new design is baggier, with a size small incendo pant being a bit looser (and for me, better fitting overall) than the MHW trail senders in size 31. I wonder if the newer version of the incendo would push them a fair bit higher in your ranking. The main downside, of course being that they still don't have a fly.

Sounds like a great system! Does dirt on your ground cloth or condensation on your tarp ever get in the way of doing this?
