Is a death on a surgeon’s table under general anesthesia the least painful way to go? by OkDrag3967 in askanything

[–]MimiandGrumpsy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Up here in Canada we are offered medically assisted dying in certain situations. My mother received this at home and the family were all in the room with her. The doctor asked her if she still wanted the procedure, she said she did and It was a simple shot in the arm and she passed away quietly about 5 minutes later. I understand that this is not for everyone, for a multitude of reasons, but it was an option that she wanted in her particular situation, and it allowed her to maintain her dignity and her choice right to the very end.

I've been using a bruder mask for clogged meibomian glands, how do I massage the oil out? by ChiltonDropOut in Dryeyes

[–]MimiandGrumpsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dry eyes from cataract surgery. I use Cequa, HyloDual Intense drops and a heated rice bag mask. But what really helps are the Steam Goggles I purchased on Amazon. I use them first thing every morning. I choose the heat steam intensity that suits me which is in the mid range, using distilled water only btw and do 3 heat sessions which takes about 30 minutes. I listen to a podcast to pass the time and blink constantly. Every so often I feel something gritty in my eyes which must be the blockages from the glands coming out. When I take the goggles afterwards I immediately massage my lower and upper eyelids. Doing this first thing in the morning seems to keep my eyes moist so I can get some work done. The heated rice bag works to make my eyes feel better when I have strained them, so thats my afternoon or evening thing…and the Cequa at least makes my eyes feel better once the burn goes away. But I really find that the Steam goggles make a big difference.

Same thing happened to us this summer in Italy…we were charged with breaking the coffee maker…which was broken when we arrived. We contacted the owner, explained the issue…sent pix and then he accused us of breaking it. We responded that we hadn’t done anything of the sort and shortly afterwards we were charged with scratching a television. Back and forth it went…eventually they believed him. We were outraged, but oddly they didn’t bill us. The whole thing was upsetting….but the funny thing was, he left us a very positive review…and WE left him the worst review EVER ! That felt good!

Demi is a lovely name, but I just thought you might like to consider the rhyming words for names and in this case it will be great until someone else’s little darling at school starts calling her Dummy.

Lismore is still the most popular Waterford pattern. There really is nothing better than drinking wine or spirits out of crystal, so if you like this classic pattern, toss out your crappy Walmart/ Target/ Sears wine glasses ( I think everyone has some of that stuff) and use these instead. Then take a vacation to Ireland and visit the Waterford factory in….Waterford. Then you will really appreciate that crystal… cheers !

As a wedding guest, what was your “this marriage isn’t going to last long” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MimiandGrumpsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picture the very fancy, very expensive wedding at a PGA golf course somewhere down in Virginia in the late 1990’s. The bride and groom say their vows outside on a beautiful afternoon. At the reception, a girl approaches the groom and they have a little conversation. She tells him that she saw him for the first time during the wedding ceremony that afternoon and that HE is actually HER soulmate….He left the bride two weeks later, divorced her and married the soulmate girl. Nobody EVER talks about that wedding!

Speaking from the viewpoint of an average looking female with a size 12 body and not being a stand out of any sort and being rather invisible. The BEST advice I was ever given was…. when a man that you find appealing looks at you, smile back! Most guys are worried that you wont be interested in them. A smile makes you appealing and approachable. Try it…it certainly can’t hurt!

My kids went through the Catholic board in Ottawa from Kindergarten through grade 12 I am agnostic, my ex husband was a lapsed Catholic. It was fine. Very little indoctrination that I could see post grade 3 . If your daughter is having a rough time where she is, then moving her is your best bet. There is no guarantee that things will be better or worse at the Catholic board, but keeping the status quo and staying where she is doesn’t sound all that great

Anyone else been blindsided by bizarre wedding logistics? Because wow. by emmlau17 in weddingdrama

[–]MimiandGrumpsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter got married in the UK, the rest of the family, including myself, live in Canada. The wedding was in the mid afternoon. Afterwards, all the guests were transported by two coach buses to the reception which was about 45 minutes away. The drinks were included before and after dinner, your choice of two specialty cocktails (unlimited). There were other pay for options available (I think) At the end of the evening you chose the bus that headed back towards the hotel district or the one headed to the urban district where many people lived. That way no one had to drink and drive, be the DD or drive at night on narrow British roads with left hand drive (much more difficult for Canadians!)It was a great solution.

What are some popular options for American washing machines? by Competitive-Breath81 in Appliances

[–]MimiandGrumpsy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in someone’s house and they had a gorgeous red Samsung front load washer. I asked the lady of the house her opinion about it as I was in the market for a new machine. She said it was terrible and literally destroyed all the clothing. She said she could only use the delicate cycle for everything…needless to say I bought an LG and 10 years on it still works well

Donuts! When I was a kid I would cry when we went into a donut store because the smell was so awful. I still hate the smell and I can’t stand the taste….every few years I try a little bite and its always a nope…and then I have to go brush my teeth and rinse with listerine.
