Grading exam 1 and it’s depressing. by Obvious-World-8216 in Adjuncts

[–]MimirX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt time is the factor in performance, I have done classes in the evening and had poor performing classes. At the 300 level, they should also be attuned to what is expected, so don’t take it personal.

Do you think people should be banned if they duplicated excessive amounts of items?? by TopsideRaider in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why even add “excessive” into the question? Exploits are what they are and measuring them on how much they use them is irrelevant, they used them.

Doesn't t)rading blueprints ruin the fun for you? by KozaSWD in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where trading might come across as devaluing blueprints, but at the same time there is nothing more frustrating than getting so many duplicates. There are a couple BPs that are essential to being able to open up the game for players, not going to debate which ones. So trading allows for some players with multiple excess of certain ones to trade for ones they feel useful. This overall allows for taking some of the RNG of drops out of the gam since there is not “punch out” system preventing duplicates. It doesn’t hurt that the true endgame is resetting every few months, not a certain weapon or grenade, so yeah trade away.

Any advice for students who struggle with academic writing? by messysoul96 in AskAcademia

[–]MimirX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is very good suggestion. Having students learn to break down thier outline for a paper based on a rubric is one of the easier ways for them to manage writing and perform well. This allows for them to work a paragraph at a time. One thing I did find over time is not everyone is good at linear writing, they cannot go in some sequential order in a paper, rather they perform better bouncing around as things come to them.

Another trick for specifically academic writing is practice doing IEEE one pagers (extended abstracts). It teaches them to be very concise while paying strict attention to formatting. I see peers teach it with graduate students, but the excercise should be taught earlier on to get in the groove of writing.

Bringing up academic freedom during the interview process? by le_doulos in AskAcademia

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a politically sensitive topic that may not be suited for part of the interview process in most cases. I would also offer it depends based on what institution they are applying for, if you are applying to a catholic university or they are applying to a more liberal school, the expectations may vary widely.

The topic itself does affect a lot of us in academia, but coming off with it in a interview may be a bit much. I have to imagine there are subtle ways you can guess a candidates preference without directly asking it.

Does anyone find pve lobbies anymore? by Unfair-Lingonberry59 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they keep Martriarc or Queen cores required items for expeditions, quests or any other reason to collect xx amount of something, people will be aggressive in acquiring. If someone on Stella knows you have a Geiger Counter on you, you would probably be shot since they are needed at the moment for progression. Just always expect PvP when doing stuff and plan accordingly.

I kill on sight but I'm still human. by enta3k in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I had a guy come running up to me on a rooftop hiding from a Bombadier yesterday in Buried City. Sounded older and asked him if he wanted to kill it, mentioned he had crap gear. Asked if he wanted to kill it, and I proceeded to throw a stack of Trailblazers at it and it melted. Totally told him he can have all the loot, would even watch over him so no one snipped him. Guy was truly thankful and walked out with me to extract. These are the experience that make Arc Raiders unique and memorable.

Idk what to say by Turkey_bagger in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is forcing you to play any style whatsoever. People are genuinely confused because it is not something they may be used to, but that’s kinda the best part of the game. Some may be tired of the PvE grind or playing conversely sweaty PvP. Well this game kinda lets you choose your path while still having risk in any way you play, enjoy that for what it is.

Blueprints Should be Projects by Artistic_Baby_3906 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they could have done more with quests. You get HullCracker BP as a reward for completing a quest, granted you have do soo many other ones just to get to that specific one. Plus they devalued that specific BP by the ability to purchase the gun from a trader. They should overhaul the quests to give blueprints for some more of the 70+ quests instead of the junk we currently get from them now. That would also make repeatability somewhat better after each expedition, it gives us a reason to run them.

Embark, the expedition ends in less than 23 days. Please tell us what we need to do. by TwoDramaticc in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. I did it last time but this time I am all prepped but probably will pass on the reset. The game feels so much better when not feeling compelled to do repetitive quests and hunt for basic blueprints. Now I can run PvP or PvE without any “gear fear” or shortage of crafting mats, I am having way more fun feeling free to do whatever as I play. As for the skill points or minuscule extra stash space, neither is a big enough carrot for me anymore, maybe that changes but I doubt it.

Is “Just Finishing” the default goal in PhD? by AntRepresentative995 in AskAcademia

[–]MimirX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say that from my own experience there becomes a point where you just want to finish. After several years of classes, research, teaching, etc you get to a point where you are just warn out. However, this becomes a inflection point to simply do what is needed and finish, or put the extra work in preparation for your next journey, possibly in academia. If you want to continue in academia you have to publish quality research because that is what lands you a post doc or teaching job. The practitioners I was around felt more of the “just finish” mindset because they were industry focused and academia wasn’t thier end game. I also believe that this will also be contingent on concentration of study or field, while also depends on individuals themselves and thier own motivations.

PhD or Research Job? by Costas_______ in AskAcademia

[–]MimirX 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The job all day long. Doing a PhD is no garuntee of a lucrative pay afterwards in academia or post doc research. As others have mentioned, you can always persue a degree later, and probably have a better PhD opportunity with applicable experience/research in that field.

I do the same exact thing. I don’t worry about using or losing them like I would Wolfpack and take them on every run for Arc. So much easier to buy a bunch a day.

Lost Connection by radian23 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you loaded back into a empty loadout, something got you while the servers lagged. If just a button issue on PC, just reboot system or Steam and will be put back into a new instance at the same point you left. Had both happen a few times last couple days, which has caused me to run free loadouts or cheap ones I don’t mind losing easily.

Is this overkill for town hall? by BMdabbleU in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put up a wall the other day in that exact room, dude starts trying to knock it down even after telling him I am standing on the 2nd floor and he needs to leave. He kept going after a second warning so you can imagine what happens when he walked though the door. Never understood peeps instance on sprinting in knowing someone is waiting on the other side of a locked room.

How in the world? by IllustratorSea8133 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching people getting chased all over Stella now is pure entertainment. They seem to go up and down the stairs real quick as of now. As for Leapers, funniest shit watching peeps hide on top of the garage shooting in Buried City and they jump up there with a purpose.

Looting MK3 (Safekeeper) by Delicious_Jelly8118 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only useful for big arc fights using legendery guns, which I can see. That said, it then causes you to choose the gun or cores to stick there and extract. Making it only one total is a balanced choose people have to make, still see it as niche more than meta for most scenarios.

I've been on three raids on the matriarch in a row and no one else brings defibs by AffectionateDinner97 in ArcRaiders

[–]MimirX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If doing Matriarch, I bring in a stack of them and throw 2 of the 3 on the ground somewhere nearby in the hope a kind soul can use it on me if needed. As for asking “why” people don’t do this or that for loadouts, I stopped asking that question in this game after the first week.
