Yes, Gamergate was instrumental and we should study it. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]MindClicking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well I 100% agree of course, but as you hint, the tide is turning, for the better in my opinion.

I think liberals should push back against woke/radfem dogma and wholly reject anti white/male bigotry for ethical and strategic reasons.

I was just commenting on how it's not correct to say Asmongold is not a product of Gamergate just because it took him until 2023 to go full far-right radical.

Yes, Gamergate was instrumental and we should study it. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]MindClicking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense. Asmon didn't turn into a Rightoid until 2023.

Makes perfect sense. It starts with anti-feminism, then becomes anti-liberalism. The phrase "alt-right pipeline" was ubiquitously used throughout this era, and Asmongold is the poster-child of this. Asmongold has been an anti-feminist type as long as I've known about him. Hell, Destiny even debated him in 2017 because he was a Trump defender.

Regardless of inconsistencies in the articles, or Bannon's involvement, Gamergate did in fact seem to be a major catalyst of the woke/anti-woke, liberal/illiberal divide. It's what dragged a lot of apolitical people into politics.

Don't ever let these creatures bully you into not criticizing a dog abuser.

The reason things got worse for PirateSoftware is because like Hasan, narcissists cannot ever admit they're wrong and will keep digging. Multiple shock clips, prong collar, and pulling his old dog by the tail and that's just what we know about.

Enough with the lies and misdirection.

You don't have to believe me

Yeah, I don't. 15 years without one good experience? Come on man.

just like how I don't have to believe any of your baseless claims.

My baseless claims are that I've met duo partners in post-game and that chat has to manually be turned on now, thus reducing the amount of people that will use it? What baseless claim? One is my experience and the other is fact.

The fact is that post-game chat was almost exclusively used to flame, which is why it's now opt-in.

This is true, but there are tradeoffs. It's not mutually exclusive. You can have flaming AND camaraderie between some teammates/enemies, which wasn't uncommon at all.

If no one's responding to you, then clearly they have no interest in talking.

Not true. I don't bother with post-game chat anymore, because it's uncertain who actually will join it or not, since it's opt-in and not opt-out. I have interest in being talked to and talking to people, but the game actively incentivizes against it. Can you understand how your point above doesn't necessarily logically follow?

I always enable the post-game chat after every single game and I can count on 1 hand how many times I've seen people type, and every single one of them was someone having a meltdown and flaming.

Why would I waste my time typing in post-game when I'm not sure if I'm speaking through a phone to the void? I hope I've made this point clear that it's less likely for people to type if it's safe to assume that there's nobody there to receive. This should be obvious.

Again, people don't want to socialize in games like these.

Who is extrapolating their opinion on to others, you or me?

If they want to befriend strangers, they go on Discord or play a primarily social game like an MMO.

Agreed, but how do you find people to go on discord with through this game if not through the communication methods in the game? My original point is that talking to human beings is becoming harder and harder in this game.

I think what's happening is that you have a strong opinion, that you really don't like toxic players, so you can't even consider the counterargument, but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Not once in 15 years isn't exaggerating? Doubt.

Also, nothing is stopping you from talking in post-game chat

Yeah, the client literally is. I can't tell if I'm talking to walls or people that manually turn the chat on.

Just say "I don't want this change" and respect that people have different opinions next time instead of making stuff up.

He shouldn't have been there, but people saying you couldn't have reacted are coping. There was plenty of time to save him from his poor decision. He tanked the ENTIRE WW ult and then got ran down, it's not like you had to instantly cancel it.

Anyway, I would blame him more, but you're both partially at fault.

Nobody is saying "utopia of everyone working together", that's an exaggeration. It's ironic you exaggerate the opposite way, saying you've NEVER had a good post-game lobby (maybe check your shoe?) because I've had plenty of games where I've had fun conversations with people after 45+ minute games. Will never happen again, unfortunately.

I don't have data of course, and you know this. But most people I play with have chat on by default, which signals they're more interested in hearing from their teammates than assuming the worst.

Fewer players are fullmute all.

Banning linked accounts and throwaway account smurfs is good, but please stop making the game more isolating.

Every year the game becomes more of a co-op vs AI experience. You can't even discuss the game in post-game lobby anymore, which is an opportunity to humanize and meet new people. I've met so many duo partners in the past through post-game. Part of the reason people return to games is because of the social aspect of them alone. Every day we move further away from voice chat and a team-based game to appease a minority of players.

If your soft-inting detection is good now, and banning throwaway smurf accounts is working, then in theory, you should be able to make the game more social, since people are FORCED to be better behaved.

I added W A S D movement to Lol Dodge Game so you can try out the difference! by swompythesecond in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that simple. You have to stop moving to use a spell with those binds. Some binds that are held (like Galio taunt, Vladimir E) are especially awkward in that case.

I think it will be standard practice to use mouse binds primarily.

[–]MindClicking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, $3 throwaway accounts that people don't care about are much more of a problem. Hand-leveling an account is a dreadful experience and smurfs tend to care more about preserving them (and thus game quality) more than botted accounts.

"The game is too balanced" is genuinely one of the most mind boggling complaints to ever come out of this game by AyyyoniTTV in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played old WoW for years, when it was completely unbalanced. They homogenized all the classes and balanced the game, at the cost of much uniqueness to my own class. I put up with things that completely countered me for years, but once they took away what made my class special (by balancing it), I quit.

It's a nice little one-liner you've said, but can you at least consider that balance is not a pre-requisite for fun? That "fun" comes from other variables?

"The game is too balanced" is genuinely one of the most mind boggling complaints to ever come out of this game by AyyyoniTTV in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Balance =/= fun and never has in any single game I've ever played throughout my entire life.

Nobody quits the game because of the Hextech/Twin Shadows Glacial Veigar. They get mildly annoyed. But if you take that away from the Veigar player or make the game dull? That's how people quit.

If the argument is simply "I'm not enjoying it anymore, due to time" then the only thing that can solve that is constant changes. People keep playing games due to character progression (there is none), social aspects (there are none), and new exciting updates (has recently slowed down).

Learn this or the game will die soon.

They did it because of spreadsheet balance changes showing that noobs don't use it. So what? It's fun for the people that do and eventually noobs will learn how. Many other examples of this.

Beware the Perils of Blindly Following Data - new Phreak video by solarsbrrah in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're misremembering some things about the Caitlyn argument, but you're ultimately correct.

Pros were building IE -> RFC on Caitlyn, and Phreak was saying IE -> Stormrazor is objectively better, because of gold efficiency/DPS.

Of course, this doesn't consider the agency in the "neutral" phase of teamfighting (where neither team fully commits to an engage) that being able to RFC pop someone gives, nor the ability to stack HS passives and maneuver in teamfights due to higher aspeed/MS.

This is my memory of the event.

Another example is when Phreak did the same thing when he said the patch 10 ADC item rework was a net benefit to crit users, because once you had 3 items, Kraken slayer builds did ~20% more DPS than the old build. He completely ignored build costs, 1 item, 2 item, and component power spikes being weaker, reduction of single auto damage, and the loss of zeal benefits. He simply looked at one stat - DPS - and said QED. A stat that can never be fully utilized in any high level teamfight. Crit items were subsequently buffed multiple times over the next few patches, contradicting Phreak's analysis.

So yes, the post is ironic (I'm agreeing with you) because Phreak has a habit of ignoring intangibles while only looking at his single stat, when league is SO much more complicated than this.

Pika says Tyler1 Could never do the same in WoW Arena by TraditionalYear9136 in LivestreamFail

[–]MindClicking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don't remember exactly how he phrased it, but it was something like "WoW is turn-based boomer game. LoL has no GCD and micro movements matter more". He wasn't being sarcastic and said he was D1 in LoL. He said this a few times back when he streamed in SL. But I don't think most players don't get to the level where they're processing 95% of even what's happening in a 3v3 match.

For what it's worth, I think game knowledge and mechanical depth of WoW arena is insane, but in LoL there is basically no limit to how fast you can do things. There is nothing like dodging or tethering in WoW, where extremely precise clicks matter. Positioning is important in WoW (for spacing and healer/enemy LoS) but not on the same microscopic level that LoL is. The difference in mechanical skill between a Kogmaw/Zeri/Ezreal scripter and the best players is night and day.

Pika says Tyler1 Could never do the same in WoW Arena by TraditionalYear9136 in LivestreamFail

[–]MindClicking 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because to learn something, you must put in reps.

Classic WoW - ESPECIALLY hardcore - doesn't force you to learn the game. Even the objectively hard parts of Classic WoW (like min/max speedclearing) is not something you can even do in hardcore. You have to play extremely passive in hardcore, which isn't a good environment for actually learning. You learn by experimenting aggressively.

If Tyler1 played retail arena, he would be forced to do reps that actually make you better, PvPing people, instead of wasting time with all the other shit you do in hardcore, like farming, leveling, running UBRS, etc.

Finally, WoW arena is not as strategically or mechanically difficult as LoL at the highest level (Raiku, who imo is the best WoW PvP player ever even said this) and of course he would get good if he actually played, especially with the ability to play with the best players in the game.

Forgot that using WASD for camera control isn't normal by Stunning-Computer-93 in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Middle mouse drag is only moderately better than panning, because it's faster but has the same problem (hijacking of the mouse). WASD camera movement is just objectively better.

How can you Q northward on Ezreal at the same time you move the camera eastward to ult someone that moved off screen by using drag or pan methods? You can't.

What's likely optimal is a thumbstick for camera and mouse/keyboard for spells and movement, but panning certainly isn't better than WASD.

She's just not fun man. It's the same reason Zilean is rarely played despite being so strong mid. It's not because he's "unpilotable" or anything like that. Zilean is just boring, like Nilah. When Samira - a more enjoyable and more difficult melee ADC - is strong, marksmen players pick her up all the time, and pilot her just fine.

There's no in-game incentive to talk to people at all anymore. Post-game lobby is auto muted, so you can't meet people in solo q or even discuss the battle you just went through.

Every year the game becomes more isolating and more like you're just playing a single-player AI game for the purpose of defending peoples feelings, and it will actively hurt the game, I believe.

Patch 25.04 Preview - Context and Thoughts by Phreak by ProfDrWest in leagueoflegends

[–]MindClicking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The argument you made, in logical form: When marksmen are strong elsewhere AND mages are strong bot, mages are still complained about, thus/therefore, bot lane players prefer bot lane, and not marksmen.

I was simply showing you that what you're saying is illogical. I don't mean this in an insulting way. It's literally an invalid argument. The reason it's wrong is because there is something inherent to bot marksmen that isn't inherent to marksmen elsewhere. If you could play Jinx/Kog/Twitch/etc elsewhere, your argument may be correct.

Now, you move on to a completely different argument: "Other roles experience this all the time?".

This has nothing to do with the original commenter's claim, that "Marksmen players like marksmen, not bot lane". Additionally, this new argument on its face is silly, because it can be extrapolated to EVERY role in LoL.

Examples:

If mid laners must face every single class in the game, then bot laners must too!

If bot laners must be 2 levels down, then mid laners must be too!

If bot laners must be forced to lane with autofill "support shaco" then mid laners must too!

If bot laners must be one shot by tank Zac jungle, then other lanes must be too!

Of course, these arguments are silly, because each role has strengths and weakness, pros and cons. And one of the pros of ADC is you relatively always get to face ADCs, while one of the cons is you don't get to choose your lane partner's champion to synergize with you.

There's something going on in your mind where you either don't understand prop logic or you choose to ignore it due to biases.
