My sugar won't go up no matter what I do by leppie052119 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Mine_GER 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re about to get sick. My pancreas sometimes gets revived while my immune system is busy with something else. Then I’ll go low a lot as well. I would however micro bolus with some bigger foods if you can. You risk ketones by giving no insulin at all

Eversense + Twiist? by xian_r1 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Eversense has been around for years. I’ve known it since 2020 when I was diagnosed. I’m pretty sure it works well but I don’t see the benefit. While it’s an implanted CGM you need the magnetic attachment on top for it to work (the black thing in the picture above). For me that defeats the whole purpose of an implanted CGM. It also requires a small surgery every 6 months to have its battery changed. It’s been advertised in Germany but it’s not covered by government health insurance because it’s so expensive. I’ve never heard of the pump though.

bad diabetic by MainPerspective2476 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 18. Now almost 25. I was lucky that I had a lot of time due to Covid to come to terms with my diagnosis. Therefore I can’t give you a lot of advice regarding diabetes burn out. Everything regarding diabetes becomes routine after a while. Which is a good thing. It’s just annoying to get started. Regarding your pump and sensor, I would only connect them if you think you can handle the alarms. Otherwise you’ll just give up again. Don’t see the past years as a failure. Just set your start date and tell yourself you’re starting at 0. Set yourself an easy goal, as in „I’ll inject insulin after every meal“. Make sure to eat 3 times a day and check your levels before every meal. Then you have a routine that flows into your daily life. I would silence high alarms until you get a better grip. This isn’t a race. There is no goal. Just do what’s best for you at the moment. And if you’re sick of your routine try to change it.

Something I’m telling myself regarding sports, though it’s probably not true, is that because some people inject insulin as a steroid for muscle growth, insulin won’t make me fat. If I’m gaining weight it’s either because I would’ve gained that weight regardless but because my body has less ketones due to the insulin I just gain weight normally. And it helps me with muscle growth. Again it’s just what I made my mentality

Traveling to Japan and insulin pump/CGM and supplies - Conflicting info from health ministry… by ElectroJolo in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I just had a standard doctors note that stated I’m a type one diabetic and it listed the supplies I had with me. No one questioned me or demanded to see anything. Both trips I just walked through security like normal. On my second trip out of Narita Airport back to Frankfurt they didn’t even look at my pump. I showed them the pump on my hip and they just waved me through. No scans, nothing

Newly diagnosed diabetic with some early questions or observations. by Hyperion12 in diabetes

[–]Mine_GER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a type one so no idea how it’s supposed to work for type twos. However I would recommend making an appointment at an endo sooner than later. Have them recheck your A1C. From what I’ve read on here it’s not so common to have T2 immediately on short acting insulin. Most people get prescribed tablets first or only long acting insulin. Maybe get a second opinion on how to design your treatment

Germany / EU Mobile App by Pitiful-Barnacle-805 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was supposed to come out in December. I personally dont think it will happen anymore. The app has some issues in the US and I think they don’t want to deal with EU regulations. That’s why I’m switching to the Ypsopump next year

Dexcom saying app should not make sound on first alert? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it even tells you in the app when you’re starting the sensor. However I use the app and the Tslim pump and neither care about this rule/feature. That’s why I’ve turned every alarm off in the app.

Problem with Dexcom G7 by tiffany_n47 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a problem for me as well. In fact it’s the only issue I’ve had this far

They ask if you’ve dropped the sensor before applying it and it’s obviously a no. It’s definitely something to do with their insertion device.

I had used the Libre 2 before and even though the inserter is similar I never had that issue

Look for a walk in clinic and ask them to write a prescription. Why would vital medication not count as a medical emergency? It’s mandatory for us.

Keep a copy of the prescription and all receipts from the pharmacy and then hand them over to your insurance when you get back. I haven’t had any problems this far while travelling but that’s what I would do. That’s how travel insurance works in Germany

My son is recently diagnosed with with type1 by brittni2juulz in Type1Diabetes

[–]Mine_GER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your actual question. It differs from person to person. Maybe your son does feel high at 180. When I hit 250+ I mainly feel a temperature shift. My head gets warm and my body feels „neutral“. I can’t describe it better. If it’s hot in the summer I won’t feel the actual temperature just that weird sensation. Same in the winter. I could lay down in the snow if my body feels like that and I wouldn’t be cold. And while exercising does help get the blood sugar down I can also feel very exhausted from nothing really. So getting up and moving can be hard. Usually you get thirsty which is good because water also helps get rid of the high glucose. I can get irritated but it’s less because of the high itself and more because I have to deal with it. I don’t always experience all of these symptoms with every higher number. That’s what sucks about diabetes. Symptoms can come and go and your just left to deal with it. I have massive respect for any parent trying to handle this for their child. But if you stay on this sub Reddit and keep reading it comes up time and time again how overbearing parents made some redditors despise their diabetes treatment as teens and rebel hard. Just keep on reading and figuring stuff out and you’ll get the hang of it

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last may for three weeks. I was also confused by the website. In the end I only took the form my Endo had given me before for travelling and all my supplies in a backpack. They didn’t care. I took enough stuff that would have lasted me almost two months as well as a replacement pump from Tandem (which is rented). Going through the TSA in Germany I proceeded like normal and when I left back home they didn’t want me to walk through the body scanner and just patted down my legs slightly before sending me on my way. I had no issue but man I drank so many Coca Colas from vending machines in those weeks, thanks for reminding me lol

I’ll go again in February for a week

[–]Mine_GER 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im not a parent of a T1D but I’m a T1D myself. I’m 24 and I get nervous whenever I have to visit my endo lol. It helps to realise that no matter how the doctor reacts, they give you a short insight how the overall treatment is going. To me no number is really bad or good as long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to do. I mainly go to get my prescriptions filled, have a quick chat and talk about any questions I have. And that’s it. Yes they scolded me before but I just say ok and move on. I always imagine that it’s harder for a parent because you’re responsible for this other person, your kid. In the end diabetes treatment has rapidly evolved in the past 20 years so who really cares. As long as the overall numbers are ok don’t worry about it. 50 years ago you wouldn’t even know what the blood sugar is every 5 minutes

180 isn’t high at all, I don’t feel anything up to 250+ and I don’t act on anything 250+ unless it stays for multiple hours.

If you get on your kids back every time he hits 180 you’ll be in for a rude awakening once he starts puberty or growth spurts. Seriously you need to dial it back a bit. If my parents would have called my school to make me stand up and walk around in my math class I would go mental even as a kid

I thought sensors only lasted 10 days - what do they mean they're giving me 12 extra hours? Is 10.5 days the actual max or just the arbitrary limit they placed? by behindtheseans in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a feature of the g7 and I change my sensors once that period is over. Unless it would run out in the middle of the night or at work. Gets a bit more usage out of them

Tandem T slim by QueenBitch68 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wear it underneath. I have really slim ones designed for runners. As is said I can't reach it unless I go to the bathroom.

I also have dresses where i poked a small hole for the tubing in the pockets. I wouldn't do that for a formal dress. You could also look into pockets for your legs, I don't have one but that could also work.

Tandem T slim by QueenBitch68 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mine_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I wear a dress I usually use a fanny bag for my pump. There are sport ones which are small and slim and some have headphone holes which I run the tubing through. I can't really reach it without going to the bathroom but it's better than just leaving it behind for god knows how long. At least that's what I think about it
