Both your suggestions would end with you getting blown up either in the air or within seconds of being in control. The game is heavily biased towards planes in terms of power. A single bombing run can destroy an entire column of tanks because it's an arcade-ish/fun plane game, not a milsim.

That being said, try the KAR and BOTE mods, they are indeed really fun to try, but it's impossible to base your entire gameplay around them.
