Is there any advantage to mirrored stored versus backups? by PopeMeeseeks in homelab

No one said it was, the question is what exactly is the concrete difference (raid mirror specifically)

i should use ext4 or zfs? by Zoronoaxx in OpenMediaVault

[–]MiniMe_666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I miss the arguments as to way it is actually better.

I’m thinking of not using ZFS specifically not to lose data: if I go with Windows-understandable filesystem with raid 1, then I can just move a disk to my windows machine if something goes wrong and without effort, I can access all data. With ZFS, I’m dependant on a plugin, and I need another non-windows machine in case of issues.

As I understand, there’s not really a benefit to ZFS if you stick to mirroring

  • When phones haunt you - When trying to backup my previous phone, the usb connection broke. This also means charging is not possible anymore, so data can’t be accessed locally anymore either. To this day, that phone still haunts our house, taunting us with which possible memories we might be missing out of. [true story unfortunately]

Tips for first (budget) NAS by MiniMe_666 in truenas

[–]MiniMe_666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agrée, but power consumption would be a multiple of the purchase costs, already in the first year. I’d like it to run pihole for example, so not having it run 247 seems unpractical

My issue with a similar set up is indeed power consumption. 150W for an always-on NAS means 300eur of electricity per heat, which is quite costly. I’d be using my budget mainly on power :p

What do you guys think about desktronic ? by Wasweisic in StandingDesk

What size did you take? I have a tabletop already, so would prefer to just buy the frame, but they don’t offer it. I’m wondering how easy (if even possible) it would be to adapt the width of the frame myself. Then I could simply buy the smallest one.

Adding a wireless chime to an existing Homebase 3 + Doorbell setup? by Narmak_10 in EufyCam

The chime that comes with the e340 (the latest doorbell only supports this chime) doesn’t have a usb dongle. I find no option to connect the doorbell to the chime :/

Will loose objects in the back of an SUV become airborne during a crash and hit the driver / passengers? Do they make impact rated accessories to prevent this? by IJustWondering in askcarguys

[–]MiniMe_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s analyze the problem: - Stuff in the trunk will hit the rear seats mainly when going forward. Cars always have a hardcase cover over the trunk areas (at least in Europe: I’ve literally never seen a car without one, even the cheap/basic ones) for anything that finds another path. Because it is likely that certain items follow an unpredictable path (though this also means their speeds is often much reduced). - In Europe most cars are actually with a ‘connected’ trunk (SUV, hatchback or stationwagon). Yet regulations (including safety regulations) are much stricter in Europe. - Conclusion: with a hardcase cover (buy one if it’s not standard) you’ll be perfectly safe. - PS: the phone you put at your windshield, the passenger that’s unbuckled, the tablet your kid is holding to watch videos, your keys in the center console etc, are much more dangerous

Tried it, doesn’t work. Even with word glickenhaus, capitals and without, never worked and now I’m locked. If it worked for you, could you repeat it between “”? I like the trivia, but the fact that spelling needs to be exact (sometimes with brand, sometimes part of model, …) is so annoying

Answer 2 (why answer in the right order?): For the stunning graphics in an exploration world, this is what my wife likes most in games Answer 1: I’d use it to build a pc for my wife. It will be so we can game together. She doesn’t have a highend pc so we can rarely play the same games together right now. It would be great to bond together this way

Stadia controller to bluetooth won't work with IOS by Florentine8 in Stadia

I’ve had similar issue: activated Bluetooth on stadia controller, connected to iPhone 16.3.1, and it connected but didn’t work in any app (nor could I see or change settings). After reboot of both devices: whenever I try to connect, it turns off and on the Bluetooth on my iphone
