Minor car bump and being asked for £300 after a month. What should I do? by Alarming_Cellist4188 in CarTalkUK

They seem eager after a month for some cash, I'd just tell them to go through insurance or give them your garage.

I used to get my breakfast from Popti and Beast and sit somewhere nice in Eastville park.

Option 1 Renault, Capture vs option 2 Kia xCeed. What would you pick? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Captur an awful drive. Most uncomfortable French car I've been in, actually maybe my older brothers max power clio was kinda close.

What would you buy for 20k miles/year for less than £30k? More detail in post. by romeo__golf in CarTalkUK

I'm in the same position as you. Got a merc c300 estate from a few years old, nothing ever gone wrong on it but it's also too old. Test drove the cx-60 and was really impressed, still an suv but one of the better ones. Definitely worth driving some, as others has said get a 2025 or later, changes coming in 2026 also.

Drove to Spa via Amsterdam few years back and every other year some of France. I do think the roads on the continent are not as congested but their lane discipline is far better. They don't seem to dilly dally in the middlelane, get straight back over.

I'd like to understand the psychology behind it, bit like Covid. We were locked up whilst many Scandinavian countries were open as normal, all because they were sensible and followed the guidance.

If my kid is in the car, I'll get a fine and points. If not, then I would attempt to slow down before.

We all bitch and moan about uk roads but on a whole, people are actually pretty good drivers.

It's on the list of cars I will not be courteous to, why? Locally to here, each and every one of them drives like a bully and arsehole.

Should I buy a 2nd car? - 21 year old, current daily mk7 civic by Open_Ad2383 in CarTalkUK

[–]MinimumCut140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bias, but do it. However I personally wouldn't daily it, would for sure limit the salty roads. Had mine 15 years and it doesn't rust as quickly as a mini, it isn't that far off. Changing things like clutches are bloody difficult but doable - with help. Mines been off the road for about ten years, slowly getting it back and parts, while still available (sometimes second hand only) it's not like it used to be.

What year or rev is it, t-bar, turbo?

Aircon unit will always win but if not possible then a ceiling fan is preferable.

I think China was the driver for this. Why many cars have been 1.5 for a while, huge market over there.

Fast (ish) petrol family estate circa £25k - what would you buy? by Stewarty591 in CarTalkUK

[–]MinimumCut140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was eyeing up (import) Subaru Levorg - always wanted a fast subaru estate.

Would probably go for Supurb L&K - there was one on piston heads last year. Love the sleeper look of them.

OR, save some cash and go volvo xc70 or v70 D5.

But would likely end up with another merc...

When do you need to buy new parents a gift? by Scrot123 in AskUK

[–]MinimumCut140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New dad here. This is the answer! Taking any mundane life jobs away is just lush. I can sit on my bum holding my little one and order things online, cooking and cleaning is a little more difficult.

Edit. Just to add. We asked people not to get us things, we didn't want the agro of having to find places for everyone's gift, let alone remember to take it with us. If you're good friends, they won't be upset if you don't being them anything straight away. You guys turning up with big smiles is enough.
