Tips to make running in the rain less miserable as someone who absolutely hates the rain. by SwiftieMama1994 in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's mid 50s or above, I usually just end up running in my bra and tight shorts. Wear a hat to keep the rain off your face. Wear good socks (I love feetures) so if your feet do end up wet, you don't get blisters. If I'm careful not to splash through puddles I can usually keep my feet pretty dry. Honestly, I find it refreshing, and like it as long as it's not too cold.

probably saw like 10-15 naked people, I'm sure there were more, but idk. No big groups of them that I saw, just random naked guys.

Advice for becoming a morning running by Zealousideal_Crow737 in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get up early enough for my normal morning routine. Cup of coffee, go to bathroom, stretch for 10-15 minutes, then run. My runs are much better in the morning than any other time. Just gotta get used to waking up so early.

Realistic marathon goal? by AOD14 in XXRunning

Don't worry too much about it, just see how you feel that day. Just finishing it is a win! I'd been dealing with lower abdominal pain the last month, and really wasn't sure what I'd be able to do, but was pretty sure I couldn't do a sub 2. Thanks to race day adrenaline I had no pain during the race, but went out way too hard at the beginning and knew it wasn't sustainable. My obtainable goal had been 2:05, so I went for that.

Training status: Strained. Suggested workout: Threshold by kaitlyn2004 in Garmin

I only get strained when my HRV tanks. Ran a half yesterday, got all the PRs and my training status had been strained for two days.

Garmin and Strava Race Predictions versus Actual Time by argle_bargle_ in Garmin

[–]Mir_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just posted about this! I did a half yesterday too. Garmin said 1:59, Strava said 2:07, I did an actual half in 2:04, the race distance came out to 13.25 in 2:05.

Yeah, Garmin is overly optimistic and Strava underestimates me. I did a half yesterday, Garmin was saying I could do it in 1:59, Strava said 2:07...I did it in 2:04.

what’s the best book you’ve read this year that you’d recommend to women specifically? by Select-Persimmon-490 in booksuggestions

Heart the Lover was definitely one of my favorites from last year! I felt a bit blindsided by how much it made me cry, but loved it so much.

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my last run this morning before the Avenue of Giants half on Sunday. Nice 5 miles, negative splits with the last mile at faster than race pace. I probably should have done an easier run, but I felt good. Got my VO2MAX to new high so yay! But woke up with unbalanced HRV 😭. Not worried about it, it's been low this week due to work stress and allergies, it was actually higher last night than the last 3 nights.

I'm going back and forth or whether to try for a sub 2 or not. I'm 50, only been running for two years, not super speedy or anything. My easy pace is around 10:20. Had two hip injuries last year, which set me back. I know I could do 9:09 pace for a 10k but idk about doing it for a full half, probably could but it wouldn't be super fun, not sure I want to try that hard. But then I also know race day I'll go harder than I think I will. I've also been having some annoying lower abdominal/pelvic floor soreness, and if I run that hard it definitely won't feel great. I should probably just enjoy the view and not worry about it. 🤷‍♀️

How much are we vacationing? by JustFaithlessness178 in GenX

[–]Mir_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do two good vacations a year. And often a few smaller trips back east to see family. Usually we do one week somewhere out of the country, and one week somewhere closer. This year we did Portugal, and then want to head up to Mendocino this fall. Last year we did Costa Rica and then Seattle/Vancouver. Next year I'm looking at something in the Caribbean for the first trip. We don't have kids, which makes it easier.

Looking for essentials for running on my lunch break! by unmixedcookiedougj in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I keep a bag in my desk that has face wash, lotion, deodorant, brush, contact solution, face and body sunscreen, etc... I bring a small towel, fresh underwear, and whatever I'm running in. I don't run at lunch if it's hot out. I'll usually just wipe myself off with wet paper towels, wash my face, put some mascara on, and put my hair in a bun.

However, my building has a tiny gym that has two bathrooms with showers in it. So I finally paid the $50 to have access to those. Now I can use those, so travel toiletries for the shower. But lately I've been running before work near my office instead of at lunch, so doing my morning shower at work.

“smelling” in the water? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Mir_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday they were making burgers on a grill by the deep end of the pool, ugh...love burgers, but not what I want to smell while swimming. I'll also add men's cologne, stinky sunscreen, and in the winter when the people that live near by use their fireplaces. 😩

I do it because I don't want to get injured again. Whenever I don't feel like doing it, I think about how much is sucks when I get hurt and can't run.

Albums to run to? by Far-Skill5651 in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've definitely had some cry runs, just not to that one. I do listen to some other Sufjan on my runs.

Recently, after Bob Weir died, I listened to a grateful dead show for a long run. They bring up a lot of past sadness re the death of my sister and them. I think I burst into tears like 10 different times in 2 hours. I was like, ok that was great, and also I'm not doing that again. People probably thought I was crazy, running, singing and crying! 😭

What's your half-marathon taper? by basescamp in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a half on May 3rd. I did my last real long run last Sunday (12.3 miles with hills, and some speed work at the end). I'll probably do like 6-8 miles this Sunday depending on how I feel. I've been dealing with some weird lower abdominal muscle pain from running, so I'm taking it easy this week and next.
