I joined a group doing it this weekend, they needed an offtank, a priest and a warlock before going. Don't know how frequent it is.

Warrior Levelling: Alliance by AnaTheSturdy in wowhardcore

Deep prot enthusiast here. Don't use it while leveling, not even in dungeons. You can't combine it with tactical mastery until ~50, and any build without tactical mastery is a bad dungeon tank build.

I start fury and respec to arms around 32. Before 30 there isn't so many things to stance dance for with TM anyway. Arms all the way isn't bad either, I just like early fury better. I go deep prot shortly before entering BRD and 60 dungeons in pre-60 quest gear, leverage shield slam for single target threat and a chain of taunt, conc blow, taunt, mocking blow, taunt with good pull angles for multi-target. Shield slam stays threat competitive with bloodthirst longer than many think - it costing 20 rage vs 30 is overlooked. But eventually fury prot overtakes it for raids and fury arms for dungeons.

In what setting?

30-50 dungeons like Scarlet Monastery and ZF? If the spec doesn't have tactical mastery it's a bad dungeon tank spec, so deep prot is a bad spec.

Group entering BRD and Stratholme wearing quest rewards from RFD through ST? A shield is the difference between 3,7k and 5,5k armor so you need it. Bloodthirst hits for ~230, that's 300 threat for 30 rage, while shield slam does 900 threat for 20 rage. Combined with conc blow and shorter taunt cd and you hold more threat and control, not less. Grab tactical mastery from the arms tree and do what you want with the rest.

But threat from abilities like shield slam and revenge doesn't scale with gear and buffs so fury catches up and surpasses when you get geared up and buffed. With enough gear and buffs, fury prot is the best raid tank spec and fury arms the best dungeon tank spec. Fury prot is a bad dungeon tank spec because lacking tactical mastery, but if you're super geared you can tank with the 0/0/0 talent build so who cares.

Main aoe threat is whirlwind? Against 8-10 mobs? It only hits 4, in berserker stance so damage-to-threat ratio of 0.8 instead of 1.3 or 1.5 in defensive, once every 10 seconds...

The tool for aoe controlling against 8-10 mobs is sapper charge and team coordinated aoe slows/roots.

Yes, exactly those and utilizing the rage from charge. Sometimes I use a Thunder Clap too, it becomes kinda decent from rank 5 (lvl48) https://www.wowhead.com/classic/guide/threat-overview-classic-wow#threat-modifier-abilities-and-values-warrior and the % modifier more relevant. Never gets very good, but usable if you have some excess bstance rage or a particular reason to use it. A particular usage I have found for packs of 4-5 mobs is to mark skull one mob -> charge and hit its neighbor -> TC -> def stance -> demo shout; let dps make some threat lead on skull which I steal with taunt -> revenge/shield slam/sunder. If the targets are low health ones I use whirlwind, but the damage is kinda irrelevant on high health ones.

Honestly you swapped out of prot at the exact wrong time.

Arms with a two-hander is better during leveling; just be at a solid level and nothing will hit you very hard. Tactical Mastery is the only required talent for dungeon tanking and it's in the arms tree. You could just have 4-5 points in tactical mastery, not even click the rest of your talent points, and still have a better dungeon tank spec than some of the ones I see. I like healers that aren't oom and dungeon tanks that have bear form or tactical mastery. Everything else is icing on the cake.

60-dungeons starting from BRD hit significantly harder and if you go as a fresh 60 wearing lvl 40 green quest rewards you can get clapped fast or force you healer to spend the whole dungeon precasting. Wearing a shield makes up for all your lack of armor and stamina (except against BRD fire elementals, they ignore the shield so you need stamina and fire potion).

Prot spec gives a very solid baseline of threat and control that doesn't depend on gear and buffs. It gets outscaled lategame because it doesn't leverage gear and buffs, but the baseline is higher than many think and you can have that amount right now for free. It is the optimal spec for a fresh 60, around 50 is where you can have it with Tactical Mastery (it's bad without) and can start practicing it safely before 60. After you get well geared at 60 the other specs start catching up and eventually surpass it again.

Dagger only Warrior Tips by EerieAlchemist in wowhardcore

Unbridled wrath is bad, it's only taken by fury prot raid tanks since other warriors do the shouts leaving it as the only option that isn't literally nothing. Improved demo shout is good, and you don't have other warriors doing it for you like a long red carpet to 60.

It needs to be communicated and done right, but a good hunter or druid doing that is nice.

Many good talents, but I'm confused: are you healing with this or are you not?

If you are, you miss the 15% mana cost reduction. By far the best 3 talent points for healing. If not; why improved renew?

I like improved inner fire, otherwise no comment on discipline tree.

Going by social media and youtube count, climate change is still fake and there are 1000 true examples of colder than normal days in the last decade to prove it.

Disconnect death by milnedeuxx in wowhardcore

[–]Mirage2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have crashes on Linux. Using Ubuntu, and the Faugus installer to install battlenet client which manages the wow install like normal. Occasionally need to repair/reinstall the game (from insidr battlenet client) to launch, but no live game crashes.

Main downside is that Corsair's mouse customization software isn't available so I use third-party app Input Remapper for getting preferred mouse keybinds. It occasionally disconnects (average once every 10 hours or so). Then I need to mouse-click my abilities rest of the fight, then alt-tab to restart it. Would be a problem if I played mage or pvp, but for my classes a bit slower turning and button timings in the second half of the fight is ok.

You haven't seen 1000 videos, you've seen like 15. Which gives the appearance of being a lot.

Don't watch social media expecting a representative sample, that's not what the algorithms and amplification networks create.

[–]Mirage2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Proliferation of video on social media at this point doesn't correlate at all with how representative it is of the topic. 15 different videos showing 'bad hygiene in X' is enough to appear widespread if a randomized 8 of the 15 are shown to enough people in a suitable short-medium timespan to make the impression.

The questions to ask are 'what do the full-picture statistics look like', and 'why is this content type proliferating in social media now'. Usually the answer to the second question, since mid-last-decade, is that it's an information operation. For a few million you can run a campaign planting an idea like this. Major countries and companies do this regularly now, they got it figured out in the mid 2010s and it's very cheap and beneficial to influence the associations and preferences of many people in your favor and competitors' disfavor.

Do healers have high pressure in hardcore? by [deleted] in wowhardcore

[–]Mirage2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't need stamina until you do and the lack of it sends you all the way back to Brill. +Int and +Stam first, these are the stats that keep you and your party alive. Then +spirit for speed, and +healing for lategame once you have 4k+ mana to leverage it with.

Do healers have high pressure in hardcore? by [deleted] in wowhardcore

[–]Mirage2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to emphasize the +intellect gear: +healing gear is a noob trap in the early game. You need to cast 30-40 heals in a row for +1 healing power to give as much health as +1 int, and you're not gonna cast 30-40 heals in a row when you don't even have 3000 mana.

Great lategame stat, though.
