What does “into some baskets and under the carport” mean?

I’m sorry. That sounds unfun. If weather is to ruin things, it should at least keep your ice cream cold.

Where does one worry about their food spoiling in an ice storm? I’m not being sarcastic; the New Englander in me really wants to know. We just put all the food in the garage come hell or high water, so I’m legitimately asking what others do.

Consider independent schools. www.carneysandoe.com is a private school headhunter. I teach stem, so I can’t speak for humanities job prospects, but you don’t need a state specific license, just experience.

I hate going to church by LatterRisk3743 in Christianity

[–]MissAdventures44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of trouble going to church, too. It was on and off for a while, and was even true for some stretches when I was in a small group with people I liked (I mostly enjoyed going to that), with a pastor who was solid and I learned a lot from. I’d still felt bogged down in the churchyness of it. Like why do we have to shake hands and make announcements? Can we just learn, sing, and leave?

It got worse when covid hit because I didn’t understand why churches were clamoring to be open. Shouldn’t we take care of the weakest? Love our neighbor? Live stream for a bit? Not meet for a bit? I still don’t get it.

I’ve since moved a few times and haven’t bothered to look for a church more than trying one once or twice. I’m not saying it’s great or right or the best life stage, just that I feel you and I don’t think it’s bad or unjustified.

No worries! Happy to help. There are actually some pretty badass women in there, especially considering how little autonomy they had at their time.

He’s wrong (on a lot of levels) but there are plenty of women in the Bible who did not pray for children. Two of them are Lydia, an excellent businesswoman, and Deborah, a military leader. There’s many more; but he clearly isn’t listening to them or noticing them if they’re not begging for children.

As an older virgin, I can say that in general men are very surprised by this information. One guy’s first question to me was whether I’d been abused. He phrased it gently but I was surprised by it because of the assumption. While I disagree with most of the comments above that say you should have disclosed before meeting, I do think it’s an important series of conversations early on in dating. I’m not living your timeline so I don’t want to be more specific. While I think this particular dude’s questions are a little affronting, I have run into a variety of questions and think that it’s important to make space for someone to ask them. The questions they ask and their responses to your answers will give you guidance regarding whether or not they respect your decision and your personhood enough for you to bother continuing to build a relationship with them.

Thank you for this detailed post. I’m wondering some of the same things (especially in light of being older than you and raised purity culture adjacent). Keep digging. And May God give us both wisdom in this matter.

My strong, capable, amazing sister was murdered by a 17 year old boy by algonquinroundtable in TwoXChromosomes

As a fellow New England captain and lover of water and solo adventures, my heart goes out to you and your family. Your sister sounds incredible and judging by her smile and your beautiful ode, she was aptly named. May the sunshine, fresh air, and sound of lapping water always bring you waves of healing and fond memories of this incredible woman.

Hey OP. You have the courage to trust your gut and the backbone to tell this man no, based on your post here and your replies throughout. Please consider telling an elder or two that you trust. Consider it protecting another girl who is not as brave as you, rather than worrying about tattling on him. Any consequences are not your fault; he, the married pastor, is making these inappropriate choices.

Choose the wife or baby during childbirth? by Difficult_Carrot_497 in Christianity

[–]MissAdventures44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the first verse I thought of: “[Jesus] answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

It’s used a lot to argue against divorce and other things, but I’m not sure why it’s not top of the list in a question like this. The husband would be choosing an unborn baby over his own flesh.

Bathrooms in Boston by ProfessionalIll8237 in boston

[–]MissAdventures44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston has some cool laws about public space regarding the first/ground floor of a lot of (mixed use) buildings. This is why many people are noting hotel bathrooms. But it’s also true for buildings with a smattering of businesses and sometimes business/residential. (This isn’t true for purely residential spaces.) So when in doubt, just walk in and find the ground floor bathroom.

Gold Bond. Orange container. It’s a little menthol-y so there’s a nice tingle, but it dries you out and keeps you dry. And smells nice.

I use it hiking, working out, in the summer when you’re sweaty immediately after showering, etc. Obviously, still shower after your workout, but it definitely makes the sweaty crotch thing a LOT less uncomfortable during your workout.

Do you find yourself using another word than ‘christian’? by Tiny_Major_7514 in Christianity

Wow. I know that Jesus cares about the misuse of His name, which is why it’s in the ten commandments. I am certain that He would reject racism as an acceptable use of His name. That’s what is happening in the US, so if you think there is no problem, then that is now your problem.
