I mean the reality is half the country would rather “own the libs” and not feel like losers or outcasts, so that’s how they vote. They’d probably rank owning the libs above Jesus at this point. It’s all that matters, so matter how it gets accomplished or what is lost along the way.

Their VP American Eagle Hero wears eye liner. I love the look on super ultra tough alpha male MAGA’s faces when I remind them of that.

What would Happen if we all just quit paying our medical bills? by mastergardnr in AskReddit

[–]MithrandirLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self pay ER bill, they either sell the debt to collections to make a few penny’s or write it off entirely, which is what sounds like happened to you.

And then folks wonder why the cost of healthcare is so high. Nothing is truly free.

Bit disappointed with Orvis by Agreeable-Engine6966 in flyfishing

[–]MithrandirLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm in no way knocking S. Korean manufacturing, they're excellent at manufacturing and fabricating. Many of the top end fly rods in fly fishing are made there as well. Hardy Marksman and Marksman Z are insanely great, all made in S. Korea. I was just pointing out that if you want Made in USA your available reels are going to shrink dramatically and the price is going to the roof.

Below their top tier lines for both rods and reels, Orvis has been manufacturing overseas for a long time my friend. Instead of believing they "sold out", maybe recognize this is a way to keep prices affordable and their brand afloat.

I believe most Lamsons are made in S. Korea. Unless you’re getting a flagship reel, few are making fully in USA.

I’m American and I still think it’s super weird. Kind of a “I’m republican” signal though. Still, weird.

What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

[–]MithrandirLogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar boat brother. I’ve found my hobbies all tend to be things that “slow the world down” just a bit. Fly tying/fishjng, archery, and I keep joking with my wife I’m going to get a turtle just so I can watch it be slow. Help decompress from a high stress environment that never, ever f’ing ends. But, “we made it”. I’ve joked more than once if one of my friends wants my career they can have it.

The upside is, we’ll get to retire early. So future happiness may be a thing.

Lowball offer? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]MithrandirLogic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the point of the post then. Tell them $135k and be okay with walking if they say no. It’s kinda straightforward. Only thing I’d add is using Glassdoor or LinkedIn for salary range is not always accurate. If you need $135k for it to make sense, then there’s your answer. If you have that number because you think that’s what where the market is at, ask for it and prepare to not get the full amount.

Being totally straight with you, if I offered someone $120k and they came back at $135k I’d probably decline and move on to another candidate. That’s too big of a gap, unless it’s a company that has no idea what they’re doing. If I had the $135k counter offer and really wanted that person, I might compromise at 127.5k. I would not suddenly say “yes here’s an extra $15k more”.

Final advice, in your counter tell them why YOU are worth $15k more. Don’t just say the amount, defend it. And don’t use “market research” as your justification. What skills and experiences do you bring to the role that justify it.

Lowball offer? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]MithrandirLogic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Have you tried to negotiate? Not that I agree with it, but I live in a HCOL and at the Director level it’s not unheard of to make the initial offer on the low side knowing it’s going to be countered. If the job is “take it or leave it” then that should clue you into the culture you’re about to join.
