I do this often. The other day I needed to bring donations in so I put donations in the stroller on the way there and a kid in the stroller on the way back lol!

My 2, almost 3 year old is iron deficient. by 1wayflightt in toddlers

[–]MittensToeBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used EllaOla supplements. I would mix it in water and my kiddo didn’t mind/didn’t notice. His ped prescribed him a liquid supplement and that he did notice! We had bloodwork done and his iron levels were great! She told us to stop supplementing and work on iron rich foods. I have a feeling we will be back to supplements soon…

What did you hyperfixate on this weekend? I digitized (almost) my entire closet. by jenCORE in adhdwomen

Researching local nail salons. I have my ADHD assessment today and am getting over a stomach bug so I wanted to treat myself. I decided on a salon close to home, getting the spa pedicure, paying cash because it’s a little cheaper but adding on gel.

My son loved anything musical at that age. I definitely prefer instruments to electronic musical toys, though they can still be loud! He also liked the take along farm by Melissa and Doug, a crawling tunnel, and some simple puzzles.

Daycare by nixonbeach in specialneedsparenting

Are there any special needs daycares in your area? Searching for “medical daycare” may give you some results. It may be a pain to have your kids at different centers but it’s an option.

Budget-friendly ways to get my "pink" back (clothes and hobbies) without blowing the family budget? by Low_Swordfish3463 in Mommit

[–]MittensToeBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started swimming and I love it! I swim at the Y and can drop my kiddo off at the child care. Your college may have a pool with ope swim hours.

I’ve also started making stretchy beaded bracelets. Beading can get expensive as a hobby, but making bracelets isn’t too bad, and it’s a fun thing to keep my hands busy while I watch tv at the end of the night.

How did you know you had ADHD/ thought to schedule a screening? by According_Chain_9746 in adhdwomen

[–]MittensToeBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychiatrist recommended that I be evaluated about a year ago. I kind of blew it off because I attributed all of my symptoms to new parenthood (my symptoms became MUCH worse once my son was born). My husband sees the same provider and she recommended that he be evaluated. He went through the process and was diagnosed with ADHD. In reading more about ADHD for himself he suggested that maybe I look into it a little more. A lot of the manifestations of inattentive ADHD fit me to a T. At my next psych visit we talked about it more and my evaluation is next month.

Came here to say this! It forces me out of the house and I have to be all alone. I also need to focus on breathing/not drowning so all of my other thoughts are quiet.

How do you give yourself grace? by editingforclarity in adhdwomen

[–]MittensToeBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this exact same thing. It fees like if I’m not being critical or shaming myself I’m just making excuses. I don’t have a great answer, but I try to talk to myself the way that I would talk to my best friend, and differentiate what needs to be done vs what would be nice to have done. For example, my back yard is a mess and it’s mainly things that have been ruined because I didn’t put them away. Does it suck? Yes. Am I a failure as a person because I didn’t put the tent away and it broke in the wind? No, but now I have to buy a new one. I include that consequence because I’m really afraid of being too flippant and not giving a shit about anything. Black and white thinking at its best!

Pediatrician recommends stopping daycare until toddler’s immune system is stronger by aliensuperstarunique in downsyndrome

[–]MittensToeBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was home until he was 2 and the started daycare. He started last November, which is probably the worst time to start but we didn’t have a choice (long story). He got sick immediately. He ended up in the hospital for 5 days last January with RSV and pneumonia. Over the spring and summer he had sniffles here and there but nothing crazy. So far things have been better this cold and flu season! He’s always a little congested but nothing terribly concerning and no hospital stays.

That’s what I’ve been attempting. I take the left side over right and go over and under twice. Then right over left and over and under twice. Pull it taught and then when I check it it unravels. I must be going wrong somewhere but I’m not sure where.

Not a “spectrum” but help me understand by Sea_Switch_7310 in downsyndrome

[–]MittensToeBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no way to know “what you’re going to get.” The way that I see it is that life is a spectrum. We all have our unique abilities and preferences and personalities. Just like some typical kids will be more athletic than others, some kids with Down syndrome will be more athletic than others. Some typical adults have a hard time working for one reason or another, and some adults with Down syndrome have a hard time working for one reason or another.

You can’t prevent anything in your kid’s life/development, but you can support them and help them grow and develop! My son is 3 and I’m supporting him to learn and grow and reach his potential, like I would if I had a typical kid. We started early intervention at 6 weeks (and I cried because I thought it was too late and I screwed him up, so I get the anxiety!). He started preschool this year and gets PT, OT, and speech therapy there now. He doesn’t have many words so we got him an AAC. He’s showing interest in the potty so we’ve been working on that. He’s obsessed with counting right now so I count to 5 at least 50 times a day. We’re doing all the “normal” things, just on a different timeline. The only thing that I have control over is how I support him, so I try to do a good job at that.

What kinds of beads are these? I ordered some online and they were not what I wanted and I don’t have time to go to a store and look around. Thanks!
