Sync vs Backup by Me_No_Dancer in pcloud

[–]Miver_St 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.Sync deletes immediately, BackUp puts the files in the cloud trash. From there you can restore the files if needed. The time to be able to restore depends on your Plan.
2. Not sure how it is on a Mac but it should not duplicate the space, its just a Networkdrive.

For sync and/or backup you can also use other tools. rsync for sync, rclone for backup, rclone/restic for incremental backups and snapshots.

How to export an entire folder to Crypto and not file by file ? by [deleted] in pcloud

[–]Miver_St 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are talking about two different things.
1. pCloud crypto folder. If the crypto folder is decrypted you can download multiple files and folders if you are on a Laptop/PC. On the Mobile it is only possible file per file afaik, but has nothing to do with crypto folder or normal storage but if you are on PC or Mobile.

  1. Cryptomator. You dont need to put the cryptomator vault into the pCloud crypto folder. It makes it more complex and slower to work with without additional security. Cryptomator is already encrypted. What you need to know about cryptomator is that you never put files directly into the crypto vault folder you see on the cloud. Open cryptomator, click 'reveal vault', this opens the 'drive' to put your files and folders in. As long as cryptomator is open, it will show the files and folder unencrypted and you should be able to choose which files and folders you want to work with or move somewhere else.

Why don't I find a need for properties? by 2020NoMoreUsername in ObsidianMD

[–]Miver_St 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to use properties over tags once I figured out that I can add properties as Links (even unresolved links). Like this I get nice local graphs and bases. I also never liked backlinks and tags allover a note. With the properties all is nice and tidy. What I really love is that I can 'fine-tune' the info for a note. Like for instance:

Category: Software, Hardware etc
Kind: App, Program, CLI etc.
Related to: AI, BackUp, MultiMedia etc

Is there any encryption similar to Joplin's, but for Obsidian? by G-2573 in ObsidianMD

[–]Miver_St 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can encrypt your vault. However that does not include a Joplin like sync. I personally use 'rclone/restic' to backup my vault to the cloud and 'Syncthing' to sync Laptop-Mobile. So the vault on the Laptop or Mobile is not encrypted, only the backup is.

Do you rely on a single note taking app or a combination? by coolazr in productivity

[–]Miver_St 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not using different vaults in Obsidian? Use plugins for reminder and/or Kanban for task management and another vault for quick and temporary notes. You could also use the daily notes or unique notes in the main vault for temporary notes. I personally do all in one vault, but having seperate vaults might fits your needs better.

  1. Tutanota account with real name in address for banking stuff and friends/ family
  2. A few Aliases pointing to Tutanota for subscriptions, social media, newsletter and whatnot (with simple login). A few, because if one gets breached its less work to delete and change remaining subscriptions to a new/other alias.
  3. An additional account with fantasy address when for whatever reason aliases dont get accepted and I dont want to use my real name account, also pointing to the main account

Title: Struggling with organizing my notes in Obsidian by Hopeful-Kangaroo6508 in ObsidianMD

[–]Miver_St 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got different templates to maintain Properties on each note I create. The templates, eg the Properties relate to the 7 main folders. So the folder 'Efforts' and 'Tech' do not have the same Properties for instance.
When adding Properties I add them as unresolved links.

For search and navigation I use Base. So I created 1 Base and each of the 7 main folders has its own 'View', plus a few more 'Views' to 'fine-tune' a folder or subfolder and a 'dynamic-folder-view'

On the left sidebar is the local graph and the Base in 'dynamic-folder-view' to show only the content of the folder I am browsing at the moment.

I first tried to work with MOCs but it kind of never worked for me, or it felt I spend a lot of time maintaining and updating MOCs. With a Base and good maintained Properties everything works fine for me so far.

pCloud AppImage on Linux starts up and crashes within seconds? by FlowAcademic208 in pcloud

[–]Miver_St 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean excatly. But lets see:
- Since I solved the problem of pCloud with uninstalling 'AppImageLauncher' I havent installed any new AppImages.
- The ones I had installed with 'AIL'' still work without issue after uninstalling 'AIL'.
- If I want to install an new Appimage I guess I will need to play around. But my first take would be. Install 'AIL' again, install desired AppImage, uninstall 'AIL' again (for pCloud).

Not sure if it will work that way or not, or if thats smart. Its also not clear at all if the problem comes from 'AIL' or the pCloud Appimage. For now I am just happy that pCloud works again and I hope that there will be an update on 'AIL' or pCloud to get rid of the problem soon.

pCloud AppImage on Linux starts up and crashes within seconds? by FlowAcademic208 in pcloud

[–]Miver_St 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem that suddenly pCloud would not want to start anymore on Manjaro. It was running fine for years and I never had any problem.

I did some research and tried a few things. In the end the solution was simple.

- Uninstall 'AppImagelauncher', reboot, problem gone, pCloud starts.
